The burgers here are soooo good!!!!! And they are less than $5!!! The fries are tasty too!!!! It's a cute place that has old photos of movie stars lined across the wall. It is sooo clean, especially for a burger place. read more

We eat here a lot, and it never disappoints. The burgers are always juicy and flavorful, and the fries are fresh, hot, and perfectly crispy. It's one of those reliable spots that consistently hits the mark. read more

At best two stars. Stopped for a milkshake. Only has softserve, no real ice cream. Paid $10 for ice milk with no flavor. Asked for the butterfinger flavor. There were some shavings at the bottom that didn't fit thru a straw. Tasteless and expensive. One guy inside started talking immediately to ius about all his problems. Had to leave just to drink the shake. Small town. read more

The food was good, but not great. The service was friendly. The ambiance was cool. I would probably give it 2 stars for food and 3 stars for the ambiance. read more

Pass through Alturas and and wanted to grab something to eat. There was not many choices to pick from small town with not that many options of restaurants. I ended choosing Harolds Frosty as it looked like the best choice in town. Burger was actually better than I expected to be it was actually pretty good. This place was OUTSTANDING tasting food. The service of the 2 working was very friendly. This place had super fast service even being as busy as it was. Small town with great food. So good!! We were driving through on our way to Portland and the cheeseburger was perfection! Came with sweet pickles which I've never had on a cheeseburger but it was sooooo good! And you could tell the fries were fresh. Had a nice chat with Jay, the owner, as well- such a genuinely kind human. Will definitely stop through here every time I'm in the area! Give this place all your money!! read more

Alturas was a half-way point for us on our road trip - and we wanted to stretch our legs and get something for lunch. We popped into Harold's Frosty because of all the cars we saw outside - figuring it must be good. And we were not disappointed. We had to wait a little bit for our food, but only because there was a line ahead of us and they cook up burgers, fresh with each order. They were so busy (hey it was Labor Day) that they actually ran out of regular fries and ice cream. So we ordered up their cheeseburger and onion rings - which were delicious. The cheeseburger was seasoned perfectly and the onion rings were soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. Just perfect! read more

WOW! Great find in Alturas, CA. This is a retro looking shake and hamburger place on the north end of town on the Main Street. The food is not cheap but worth every penny. We got a large fry to share which is made from fresh local potatoes. A veggie burger for the wife :) and a proper double cheeseburger for me. I highly recommend a throw back lunch or dinner on your way through. read more

Miguel and his crew fed our group of 25 students, 5 chaperones, and 2 teachers. We ordered ahead and we were pleasantly surprised to find that they closed the restaurant to assure we would all have seats. The burgers were delicious, the fries were fresh, crisp, and hot. Milkshakes were all cold and delicious. All-in-all this place deserves a 5 star rating! read more

Harold's Frosty - Miguel, Michael, and Marlena were excellent hosts and provided superior service. - Burgers Near Me - Alturas, California

We stopped here when passing through town. Cute little burger place and very clean. The hamburgers, fries and shake were very good but over priced. 2 hamburgers, one large fry, 1 med milkshake and 1 med diet soda was $28 read more

Only come here if you're rich!!!!! Last time I checked we weren't in Europe and you didn't have to pay for water. A small milkshake will drain your bank account!! Closed for half the year that's why prices are outrageous. A Walmart burger patty isn't worth this. Stay away. read more

To a 53 year old "teenager," there are few meals that are as palate pleasing as a great old fashioned cheeseburger, french fries and chocolate malt. So, when we first traveled through Alturas in May of this year, we immediately looked for "Mickey D's" to get a quick lunch. But, there AREN'T any McD's in Alturas, and it took only one stop at Harold's Frosty to know why. Located on Main Street, across the street from the local High School, Harold's exemplifies that bastion of All American food art ... The Mom & Pop burger stand! This vanishing breed has survived in robust numbers in the rustic towns of Northern California, and feature crowds of patrons who come for more than just a quick meal. For the hard working rural residents, these stands are where farmers, miners, kids & parents meet to eat. They are as much social gathering places as anything else, and hard to classify as "fast food." They are simply best enjoyed in a leisurely fashion, and don't be surprised if the other patrons actually TALK TO YOU! Scrupulously clean, the small staff turns out tons of great burgers, sandwiches, ice cream, shakes, coffee drinks and much more, but the biggest reason we go back time after time are the french fries. These are simply THE WORLD'S BEST FRIES! Cut fresh from the regions best potatoes, then fried to order at your command, they arrive hot and stay hot. These fries are long, skinny, salty and when served with the proper amount of ketchup, MESSY! };)'''''' And they STAY delicious as they cool down, unlike most other fast food fries. They aren't coated, sweetened or adulterated in any way. If you CAN'T have them with salt, you'd better tell them beforehand. If you can, DO! The burger combo isn't the usual fast food, slapped together stuff. Each one is carefully constructed, and if it's not right or you end up another patrons burger (Hey, they're busy!) they'll happily make it again! The shakes and malts are (*BURP!*) delectable & delicious, with fresh local fruit of the season proudly featured for your enjoyment. (GREAT fresh Peach shake on the 4th of July!) The staff is personable, and as they get to know you, even playful. As the fry chef got used to serving my burger with "more onions," he showed he truly understood by serving up a whole onion on the side! And a lovely red Bermuda onion, at that! };) For those "atmosphere" nuts, Harold's has the vintage celebrity photos festooned about the walls (Even Gandhi loved Harold's burgers ... Who knew?) and lots of shiny tile. So, whether you're just passing through Alturas or staying awhile, you'll always get a great burger combo at Harold's Frosty! read more

Harold's Frosty - Harold's Frosty in bustling downtown Alturas! - Burgers Near Me - Alturas, California

We look forward to Harold's Frosty when we drive through alturas. Really, it's a destination! The burgers and hand cut fries are amazing. But it's hard to decide between burgers or a HUGE burrito! The salsa on the burrito is quite spicy, which I appreciate, but my kids don't. Ask for no salsa if you're sharing with wimps. read more

Courteous and friendly staff. The milk shakes were excellent and French fries tasted fresh and made from real taters. Corn dog was a little soggy but probably wasn't the smartest thing to order at a burger joint. It was busy and that's a good sign. There was also a sign on the window to wear a mask but nary a mask was to be found on a single customer other than me but that's probably more a sign of the patrons than the staff who were all wearing masks so I ordered my food and GTFO. read more

I've lived in Alturas for most of my life and Harold's Frosty is a fixture here. The place hasn't changed or evolved much from the mid 90s but that's not exactly a bad thing considering this is a retro style burger joint. Let me start with the good. The burgers, chicken strips, fries and onion rings are the best in town. They're always bursting with flavor and perfectly composed. The fries are crispy and amazing as are the onion rings. The staff and owner are super friendly and always make you feel welcome. The first problem is that they use bread and butter pickles instead of the standard dill ones. It's very off-putting and unexpected. Bread and butter pickles have no business being anywhere near a hamburger. Secondly the prices are pretty steep. A standard meal for two will often cost $30+. Overall though I would recommend checking it out. read more

Stop here. It's exceptionally priced and the burgers are amazing...they melt in your mouth.

This is a super place. We came in needing a burger but with low expectations. Boy were we surprised! The chocolate shakes were great and the fries are outstanding. I ordered a double burger with bacon, avocado and peter jack cheese and my mind was blown. It has to have been one of the best burgers I have ever had. The secret is the grilled beef patties. I don't know what they do, but they should keep doing it and anyone passing through Alturas should run to this spot. read more

Nothing special, did have good milkshakes though. Hamburgers where mediocre at best and service was very poor and unwelcoming

Harold's Frosty - "Best burgers & fries in the west" - Burgers Near Me - Alturas, California

Excellent food and good service! Hand cut French fries and burgers made to order. Definitely worth a stop.

We were in Alturas looking to buy a house and it was a long trip, too long. I wasn't in that great of a mood, then this little place caught our eye and everyone agreed it would be okay to stop here. The bathroom is beautiful and clean, but there is only one. (Great for families or trans, I guess) We ordered 4 burgers, 4 small fries, 2 medium sodas and 2 Large milkshakes (Peppermint with Mocha; the extra flavor was more) Everything was Great! It was perfect to lift the blues of the long drive. The entire thing cost about $64, for four people. We had to wait a little bit because it seemed there was only one person working behind the counter, and they were doing everything, but to do it all, keep it tasting great, (didn't expect the burger to be THAT good, or the shake..) AND be super friendly. 5 stars + Places like that are tragic to let go amiss. read more

I absolutely love their fries! They weren't greasy and was seasoned perfectly. The burger was average but still delicious. It contains your standard meat patty, lettuce, tomato, onions, mayo and mustard, and pickles. Friendly service too! read more

Talk about a good burger. It took a while but that helped me know it was really homemade. Cooked on a flat top- like your typical 50's diner would have had it. Fries were crispy which was nice as well. While my whole meal was rather expensive for a burger, fries and a shake I did feel like it was worth it. I had the oreo shake- which was creamy and lots of oreo cookies inside. The guy behind me got the super burrito and holy crap- that thing was huge! Customer service was great- they knew one in our party by name. read more

Best old fashion style burger with sweet pickles from Reno to Lakeview Or. Great Shakes.

We stopped here for a quick bite on a drive back from Reno. We each had a grilled cheese and a milkshake. It might not sound possible but the simple food was amazing.
