Dean, Rob, Paul and Aaron are the best at what they do! We have had horrible contractors work on projects throughout the years here are a few examples: patio-worker said he wasn't going to dig into the hill anymore, we have awful soil, he wasn't hand digging he was using a excavator, but he flat out refused to dig what was specified the landscape plan small scale kitchen re-model--sink got moved as well as refrigerator, contractor didn't hook up the water line to refrigerator correctly which leaked. New wood floors were covered during the work, when the work was done, floors were ruined because of the slow leak that we didn't detect. Garbage disposal wasn't hooked up, when the faucet was turned on, water went all over the floor basement remodel- contractor only visited the job at the very end of the project, he looked around and said "it came out better than I planned, I'll have to charge you more" Those past experiences made us wary of doing any more improvements on our house, but I wanted a larger kitchen, so I went on the recommendation of a co-worker to give Suburban a call. They had just finished her kitchen and it was beautiful. Our kitchen was done in 2013. It came out great. In 2023 it was time to update our 35 year old bathrooms-2 full and one 1/2 bath. I ended up calling Suburban to do the work. They are true craftsmen and professionals. They make recommendations even though it will mean more work for them like adding a light in the shower or updating our can lights in the kitchen because there a better lights available now than 10 years ago. There are several other things that I appreciate about them. They communicate constantly about what needs to be done. They are easy to reach. They are trustworthy and show up every day and work a full day. You will know when they will be there and what time they will leave. They do the work, they don't sub it out to someone else. I also felt comfortable with them in the house, they seem to genuinely like working together which added to the positive atmosphere. It can be very stressful to see your house in a demo state but they gave you confidence knowing that it would look great when done. They will also tell you how long the job will take. In both kitchen and bathroom re-model jobs they were completed on the day they said they would finish. That is so important. When your house is a disaster with all the demolition it's nice to know it will be done in 3 weeks (kitchen) and 12 days (bathrooms). I couldn't be happier with them and their work. Summary: I cannot put into words what a tremendous job Suburban did and how pleased we were with the outcome of our major 4-week project. Dean Lucas, the owner, is a highly skilled craftsman proficient in all aspects of remodeling and Paul, his associate of many years, had previously been with McKenna Kitchens and Baths. They know what to do and do it well. Rob Lucas was a pleasure to work with in getting a cost estimate. Once the project was underway, the team was prompt, proficient, and flexible. They made great suggestions and were receptive to minor modifications and add-ons without price gauging. After the project was basically completed and they had moved onto their next projects, some of our appliances and cabinet trim had not yet been delivered. But when the items arrived a few weeks later, the team quickly returned and finished the job. The whole team was a pleasure to work with: proficient, reliable, and honest. They say what they do and do what they say. They do all their own work, so no 3rd party contractors involved : demolition, electrical, plumbing, drywall, and carpentry. Also, they handled the necessary town permits and inspections. My wife and I are beyond satisfied with the outcome and highly recommend the Suburban team. The Project: We purchased a large condo, knowing that we wanted to make significant structural modifications to make it perfect. I researched contractors and decided to meet with Rob Lucas. We reviewed what we wanted to have done and provided him with a detailed itemized list and rough self-drawn floor plans to make sure everything was included. Within a week he came back with a cost estimate, which included allowances for fixtures , tile, etc. After a second meeting with Rob, I looked no further. He provided me a list of every job they had done in the past few years as references...no cherry picking only the good ones. I was sold. I pre-planned our project to be started and completed 11 months in advance, which was beyond their schedule at the time. They held my start date and completed it on schedule. The kitchen portion of our project included removing a weight bearing wall between the kitchen and dining room, installing a header beam, repositioning appliance and cabinet locations, replacing and dry walling the ceiling and some walls, putting in new recess and under counter lighting, building wall wainscot to closely match the cabinetry, installing new cabinets and appliances, and relocating a washer and dryer from off the kitchen into the enlarged bathroom. The bathroom portion included gutting the old bathroom, a walk-in closet, and a vanity area and building a single large bath area with a seated Onyxx brand walk-in shower, installing a 9' long dual sink matching Onyxx counter top and 4' separate matching vanity top, installing a stacked washer and dryer with outside venting (it is an interior room), installing new drywall ceiling with recess lighting and fan, installing a new wall and doorway, installing new mirrors (one backlit) and light fixtures, and installing 12" x 30" floor tile. Additionally, Suburban installed a 13' full wall of custom cabinets (23 drawers, two end top cabinets, and open middle for TV) built by CabAve (who are also great to work with) in Clifton Springs. They did this bedroom installation as an add-on, completed it in a single day, and were reasonable in the cost. Suburban is a 4 man crew, which proved to be necessary and efficient. The 9' Onyxx counter top was in excess of 200 pounds and had to be brought into the house to the bathroom through a window. The CabAve cabinets were 36" wide, 52" high and 22" deep of solid wood and were both cumbersome and heavy. We purchased our own cabinets, kitchen and bath fixtures and lighting, Onyxx shower/countertops (from VP Supply), and kitchen countertops (Cambria from Home Depot.) Rob gave us full credit against any allowances in the contract with no hassles whatsoever. I can honestly say this project was fun and I missed seeing the team after it was completed. read more

It's been 6 months since Suburban remodelled our kitchen, and on the whole, we are quite satisfied. Yes, the 2 weeks it took was a royal pain, but others who we had estimates from told us 3 weeks or longer, so actually, Suburban is one of the quicker contractors in the business. They came in with a plan, and they followed it pretty closely. And, although there were a few additional expenses that we needed to take care of (while the walls were down, it just made sense), they really didn't try to 'pad the bill'. In the end, we were happy with their work, as well as the price it cost us (which is more than I could say about the painter we hired later...). The only marks off were for small issues, such as the unforseen short in one of the electrical switch boxes, and the less-than-perfect smoothness of the ceiling. We were a little disappointed with the designer, but he is not in corporated with Suburban, so I won't hold that against them. If you are looking for a kitchen remodel and aren't ready to spend the big bucks at some of the more 'trendy' design houses, I would really recommennd getting a quote from Suburban. read more

They say you get what you pay for: these guys aren't the cheapest, but this is what you get when you contract with them- honesty, punctuality, expert work, responsiveness, approachability, and a finished project on time or ahead of schedule. We've had a lot of projects done in our 37 years of homeownership and we've never experienced anything close to the experience we had with Rob, Dean and the rest of the crew. Our experience with Suburban from a recent renovation was less than ideal. Communication with Rob initially appeared to be on point. Once the project started however, we quickly learned that Rob and Dean (the owner and lead builder of the company) did not communicate. Rob also proved to be quite disorganized and too informal for his professional role in this company. We ran into a few significant miscues right from the beginning and these errors would plagued our project to the end of Suburban's role in it. Admittedly, some of this falls on us as the consumer and we should have ensured the contract explicitly laid out each and every detail of our renovation to our specifications. Unfortunately after detailed conversations with Rob, the ambiguous contract that we signed versus what Dean expected to build/renovate were different both in terms of cost and detail. Allowances were grossly underestimated for the scale of the project. The estimated project was 3 weeks but took 6 weeks for them to complete their work. We wrongly assumed that painting would be part of this renovation quote but found out in week 2 of the project that they did not paint but merely made the space "paint ready". Today our painter spent the day fixing the dry wall that appeared to be done in a hasty fashion before they felt comfortable painting. Our project went well over budget and we feel like we overpaid for the quality of work that we received. read more
