If you have extra money to throw away then stick with them, the one star is for their customer service, I have no complaints about that, but their pricing practices should be illegal, I stuck with them for about 5 years for the convenience of auto refills but when I spoke to another customer who uses Valley Propane I was astonished at the price difference, Valley Propane is 2 dollars less per gallon! It is not a promotional price they are consistently lower priced. Valley propane gives significant discounts when you fill more than 100-150 gallons. Switching over was not hard at all, valley propane comes to your house and removes the suburban tank and places their own, their customer service is also great, and then you call suburban to come get their tank but not before the charge you 80+ to pick up their tank! I overpaid for propane hundreds of dollars a year! Full disclosure valley propane tank rental is 150 a year vs suburban 75, if you have suburban they use their own regulator which they will want back so you have to pay about 125 for one that becomes yours to use with valley propane. Regardless valley propane is a way better deal. I was not paid or given anything to write this. As a person who has a family to provide for I felt obliged. read more

I had 200 gallons of propane in my tank when I stopped using it last year because of a new hear pump HVAC system install. I asked Suburban to remove the tank 2 or 3 times last year and they did not, even though they scheduled it. Finally, this year they removed it. I got nothing for the 200 gallons of propane. They said it just offset their cost of removing the tank. It was their tank, I don't see why I should pay for them to remove it. For past 8 yrs this business has fraudulently claimed that they own the gas tank on my father's property despite numerous requests that they show us the account contract. Even though we cancelled the gas delivery contract with them 3 yrs ago, they still send us annual statements for the tank rental fee which they label as "account management". This place has no problem leaving you and your children without heat or hot water for a week no problem and then they come out and do what they want when it comes to filling your tank. We ordered 100 gallons of gas and they ended up giving us 220 gallons at almost $3 per and now we have a $726 bill to pay as a single income family- Which I'm assuming we'll still be trying to pay off by the time we need another delivery. It's sad and pathetic that they use people in their time of need, knowing propane is a necessity to live out here.. To take them for as much money as they can. Disgusting. Wow wow wow these guys are awesome. We went in trying to DIY our mobile homes propane (bad idea). And the staff politely helped set us straight. We worked with Elisa Who gave us 100% of her patient attention, and very thoroughly explained our options. (Elisa is a very talented and skilled salesperson in the best and positive sense of the word) We signed up, and 2 days later our shiny new baby propane tank arrived! Ben (3rd generation propane!) and his trainee Basillio were friendly, professional, and genuinely AWESOME. They tested the entire system, all appliances, and were on their way. (Who knows maybe we bumped it?) but later we had a small leak detectable so I called the office and was able to speak directly with Elisa! Ben came right back out same day(end of day) and fixed it! Ben is also currently working with the new government HCD inspector to supply the proper gauge (although odd, but inspector gets what inspector wants). Meeting the inspectors demands also means 2 more trips all the way out to our rural location at no cost to us. We find it hard to find not only competent, but friendly (whoa! Asking a lot!) service people but man the whole team at Suburban Propane really surprised us. We are DEFINITELY using them for all of our future propane needs! read more

In the time of Coronavirus we were running low on propane so my husband called suburban propane (we have been customers for approximately 20 years) they gave us a price of $3.99 a gallon (we have a 1,000 gallon tank) when my husband said that was ridiculous because gas prices are low they said they would give it to us for $2.99 a gallon. We knew that was still out of line and called another propane company who gave us a price of $1.85 a gallon. When we called to tell them we were changing companies they said they would give us a price of $1.89 a gallon. Needless to say we are changing propane companies!! Unfortunately I didnt pay attention to the propane levels during the winter and fell on 0. With a 3 week old in the house this made it an emergency to have the tank refilled, but they scheduled me out an entire week and were charging me $3.55 per gallon. SuburbanCares is right!!!!! Elisa from the Fresno office is a ROCKSTAR! My initial conversation with her was very informative. I'm new to the area and to propane use and she walked me through all the info that I needed even before she knew I was going to be a customer. The whole time, she was very friendly and warm. When I called in a couple of days later to establish an account, she expedited my service when she realized that the house I had moved into had very little propane for me to use. I would not have made it to the next scheduled delivery in my area. She expedited my paperwork and fast-tracked the whole process, ending with a phone call to a driver nearby who filled my tank within minutes of signing paperwork online. She made it all happen. She kept me on the line as she contacted various people in her network to give me the outcome I needed. I felt her genuine concern for my well-being being new to the area, new to propane use, and the predicament I would be in, had she not tracked down a driver in my area to arrange for an early delivery. I went to Suburban Propane on Friday to get fill a propane tank for my BBQ. However, my tank was very old, 17 years old! I was just getting a BBQ out of storage, getting it cleaned up and working again. I knew I needed to new connectors, etc. to bring it up to date. I cannot thank Gary and Oscar enough for their GREAT customer service. Gary told me the best way to go about getting the tank and connectors in working order. I later brought the hose and the tank; Oscar attached the new connector and tested the hose to make sure it was still in good condition. Amazing customer service. Also not that propane prices on Thursday and Friday are lower than the rest of the week -- good tip! read more

My husband and I have been customers of Suburban Propane since 1986. In June of this year, I informed Suburban Propane that we had sold our house and wanted to discontinue service as of 7/23/18. They told me that they would be out on 7/24/18 to pick up the tank and I said we would leave the gate open so the serviceman could get to the tank. I had a credit with them for $181.00. I was told that I would be getting a refund. It is now 9/6/18 and I have not received the refund. I have called numerous times and have been lied to with each phone call. The first lie was that they went out to the property to pick up the tank on 7/24/18, the gate was locked and the people living in the house wouldn't let them in. The gate was open and no one was living in the house. My neighbor had been watching our house and verified that the gate was open and house was empty. Several times Michelene at Suburban Propane told me she was going to process the check. As of today, she admitted that she still has not processed it. She always has an excuse, usually that the gate is locked. I drove 3 hours to our old property last week. Took photos of the empty house and open gate. At one point she asked if someone could meet the driver at the house and open the gate. I called the realtor and he said the gate was open, house still empty but he would be glad to meet the propane company at the house. Suburban Propane never called him to set up a time and didn't bother showing up anyway. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Apparently, they need $181 more than a senior couple on a fixed income. read more

First of all some facts: We purchased our home in Rolling Hills, Madera, California in June 1976. The propane tank on the property was leased from Suburban Propane in Fresno,California. We/I have been a customer for 45 years, I have had a great many problems with this company, I complained, but eventually the problems were worked out in Suburban's favor of course. But now here I am again, a widowed disabled senior lady on a very low fixed income, I did not realize I was out of propane until today, 2/7/2020. I pay in the fall to have this Suburban 500 gallon tank filled for the year, cost averages $500-800 for fill up, propane is only used for heat, so that 500 gallons usually lasts me until spring, apparently not this year! When I realized the tank gauge was showing "R" I knew I was out of propane. I immediately phoned Suburban late this afternoon, got some young lady, in speaking with her, I felt she was not very well versed in customer service to me a customer of 45 years & I told her her attitude was not very customer service minded & that she needed more training in customer service She quoted me a cost of emergency delivery of $195 surcharge+ propane at $5.00+per gallon. If I wanted to fill the tank it would be $2500.+ $195. surcharge. Needless to say, that steep coast was not in my budget. In the past I have considered purchasing my own 500 gallon propane tank, but I could not locate a new/used tank nearby & those I could locate the high tank costs were not in my budget. so I stayed with Suburban paying a yearly leasing fee of $25-$35 for their tank for 45 years. 2/10/20, I finally spoke to Suburban Propane today, after I phoned again this morning, left a message with the Suburban Propane call center & by calling again this afternoon. I spoke with Elisha & she set up d delivery of the minimum propane purchase of 100 gallons & it will be delivered on Thursday February 13th, my usual delivery day of the week in our area, cost is $3.75 per gallon, high you bet & in the meantime I will do without heat in my home. I am very fortunate in that my home is very well insulated and temperature never drops below 64-65 degrees in winter. I had to phone Suburban 3 times, between Saturday & today, Monday. I phoned early today & again got the call center, left a message. Apparently Elisha attempted to phone me early am today, but because Suburban's caller ID is not released on outgoing calls & my home land line phone does not accept blocked number calls, unless they release their number due to all the spam/robo callers. Then I phoned again at 3:30 pm today to finally speak to Elisha who was very pleasant & she got me set up with delivery on the usual day of the week they are in my area, otherwise I would have had to pay the surcharge for delivery. One word to describe this company "astounding"! I had such an amazing experience as a first time customer. The staff was exceptionally helpful and courteous. With other companies we were looking to wait for 7-10 days before being able to have a tank and propane for our home. That's 7-10 days without warm water or a heater in this cold weather for my family. However, with Suburban Propane, they were able to provide services immediately; a tank installation the next day and propane delivered the day after! So thankful they were able to get us started up so fast and not to mention the amazing rates!! They kept my family in mind the entire time and I cannot thank them enough for that! I wish I would of read the yelp reviews before deciding to go with Suburban Propane. The only reason we switched companies (from Souza Propane -25 year customer) because our previous supplier went out of business. When we first switched, they could not get the bill correct for at least 2-3 months. We have been a Suburban customer for almost 2 years now. We live in the country in Patterson and have a large tank. Whenever they fill the tank about 2-3 times a year, I get a $600 - 700 dollar bill. Not sure how many people out there can afford to pay that size of a bill all at once, so I split it up in to about 3 payments. I may be late, but I have ALWAYS pay my bill. Today they put a lock on our propane and shut it off because my last payment will be received electronically to them on the 11th and today is the 8th. Yes, I am past due and have paid all the fees that go along with that, but there was NO warning at all ! They just showed up and locked the tank with no warning. No notice stating if you do not pay the balance by a certain date, you will be shut down. I work for a large corporation in a customer service environment and have never treated one of my customers like that. Needless to say, we are on the phone right now finding another propane provider. Oh, did I mention that my husband is a paraplegic and confined to a wheelchair ! So much for customer service! I hope somebody reads this and decides this is NOT the company for you ! read more
