Sub Zero nitrogen ice cream was an experience I'll never forget! The food: I must admit that I did this to myself - I ordered the brain freeze ice cream. I got the bubblegum flavor. So, one thing about brain freeze: it is colder than dippin dots, although slightly similar. Although I regretted getting the brain freeze version, I would have regretted it more if I hadn't. My tongue was slightly numb for the entirety of the night and the next day lol An amazing experience, especially if you're a risk taker! The service: The employees were really nice and very helpful. Really appreciated them! The environment: Your typical ice cream place, except with the addition of all the nitrogen equipment. Very clean, friendly place.
Been wanting to try this place for a while and was in the area having dinner with my kiddo. The lines were really long on a weekend evening. I ordered the tropical turbine and my daughter got the mint one. Both were pretty good. It was interesting and different. Overall I liked it, satisfied that sweet tooth. Would I come back? Probably if in the area because it's a 45 min drive in no traffic.
If nothing else, its fun to watch. We'd never been to a place like this so all the choices were sort of overwhelming. Not only do you pick the size you want, there are choices of ice cream, yogurt, low fat and more. There is even a vegan choice which is pretty cool. They have some combinations all ready made up and then there is also a list of all the ice creams and add ins. No one should ever be disappointed in the number of choices. Of course then you have to decide how cold you want it, we opted for regular ice cream. They then mix it up with the cloud from the nitrogen billowing. If you have young children, they'll love it. Its not inexpensive but not out of line when compared with the other ice cream places. It was fun, the ice cream tasty and we'll be happy to go again.
Took my nephews here after their soccer game and was pleasantly surprised with the so many options we could pick from. One always opts for the dairy free option and it was great that they have a cream base here that is dairy free and that he can customize. Watching my nephews watch their ice cream being made was really an awesome experience. My peach custard with cheesecake pieces and mixed berries mixed in was just delicious. For Saturday afternoon the two people working extremely patient and were so kind even though I know they were swamped and short staffed they were still so friendly and that takes a lot in customer service. They get an A+++ in my book. Remember that this is a custom experience and you get what you pay for do not expect to spend only a few bucks on some ice cream. You're going to be paying a premium price for some premium product.

It's an ice cream shop known for their liquid nitrogen. The ice cream flavors isn't anything special, but you do get to pick your base (yogurt, lactose free milk, etc) which is great for folks with allergies and how cold it gets. You know coming here is less about flavor but more about the experience. The wait can be a little long since the process is more than just scooping ice cream. Instead, they gather the liquids, the toppings, and other ingredients. It's then given to another worker that uses the liquid nitrogen machine to reach the level of freeze you want. I got Cotton candy with mixed berries and breeze freeze level (the highest freeze). It looked like popped rocks! You can blow the cold air too! It can get stuck on your tongue so eat slowly and just let it melt. Since it was that cold, it was hard to really taste the cotton candy flavors, but it's fun eating.
I'm not really an ice cream person but I'm all for nitrogen ice cream! This isn't your ordinary ice cream shop -- you start by picking your cup size, then your base of original or custard, etc, then your flavor ice cream and all the toppings you want! One topping is free. You end off by deciding what freeze factor you want. For myself, a small was way more than enough! It's yummy and super fascinating to watch them make. Also, the workers were really nice and friendly. The place is pretty big and it's surprising that this place isn't packed! Especially on a hot summer day! I'd definitely come back and try more combinations :-)
What a cool place. We took my mom for her 58th birthday. Luckily when we got there we were the 3rd ones in line. The wait wasn't bad for us at all plus we were so indecisive so we needed that time. The girls were very patient, friendly and provided great customer service. We loved the making of the ice cream with nitro. We really loved the flavor of our ice cream. I had orange lime with almonds it was delicious. I can't wait to go back and try other flavors.
Heard good things about this place and was taking my gf's nephew to see the cool nitrogen ice cream but turned out the biggest fan was me! I got the "brain freeze" and it was so cool! Usually I eat slow and my ice cream ends up like soup but this way it lasted 2+ hours! Can't wait to go back!
Very fun to watch them make the ice cream! Its not something you see often unless you come here. The flavors are also pretty good and there are a lot - to the point that it might be overwhelming to make your own. I've come here a few times where friends concocted their own flavor mixture and it was disgusting, so beware; choose combinations of flavors that you know for sure go well together. I'd stick to 1-2 flavors to be safe if its your first time. In the end, if it doesn't taste good, its mainly your fault unless you chose one of the presets. Custom Coffee Concoction - brain freeze is a must for us. We like when it sticks to our tongue . This used to taste better when they had espresso shots available, but i had to settle with coffee instead. So it was a bit sweeter than i like it. Chocolate conduction - numb tongue - very chocolatey and very sweet. A bit too sweet for my taste. Cinnamon roll - numb tongue - could definitely taste the cinnamon flavor. It was also very sweet. Pretty much exactly how i imagined it would taste, which is good!

Had them at work for an event, and Jack and team did an amazing job. Ice cream and sorbet were both delicious. Jack was fun, entertaining and educational as he did demos with the liquid nitrogen and showed us how it works. I had the chocolate chip mint and the raspberry sorbet. The sorbet is dairy free. Would hire them again for future events. read more
How fun is it to mix science and food? Sub Zero Nitrogen ice cream is not your ordinary ice cream shop. In addition to your sweet treat, you get a show since they make your ice cream fresh when you order it and you get to watch the smoke effect from the nitrogen! This would be a really fun outing for your child that's just learning about chemistry or for those interested in science in general. I liked that we got the option to choose between 3 different levels of chill, and how each represented a different texture and cream consistency. There are 12 preset options for you to choose from, or you can create your own flavor combinations. The sky is the limit! The staff were very kind in explaining to us the differences in the chill factors and patiently waited for us to choose our combination. I was so excited by the show I forgot to take a photo of the ice cream before we ate it all. One normal portion is pretty large; personally I found it was a great item to split with another person. There is a large parking lot in front of the shop that's free and there is ample, clean seating at the shop. read more
I didn't even know Sub Zero existed until at my work for a catered event Sub Zero was there making nitrogen ice cream. Like everyone else I was quite enthralled by it as they prepared the ice cream ingredients and then froze them into ice cream using liquid nitrogen. I had their chocolate brownie flavor and really liked it. Not too long after eating it I Googled for it and they had a location in Federal Way. This past weekend we went up and Steve tried it for the first time. He got kind of a berry flavor which was good but a little too involved for me. So I got a cinnamon flavored ice cream with graham cracker blended into it. It was absolutely wonderful! Great flavor and still really cool ( haha... a pun!) that you get to see them make it in front of you. Definitely a great place and well worth going back to multiple times! read more

Heard good things about this place and was taking my gf's nephew to see the cool nitrogen ice cream but turned out the biggest fan was me! I got the "brain freeze" and it was so cool! I got Mocha ice cream w/ strawberry add in, classic cream. I made the mistake of getting brain freeze as you can barely taste the ice cream, that was my bad. The service was nice and showy, it's cool to see the nitrogen. read more

Sub Zero is a dope ice cream experience where you get dessert AND a show! You can choose from one of their crazy creations or customize your own. Once you have your flavor, you can substitute regular milk for soy or their other choices, which is good news for the lactose-intolerant, you guys can get on this hype and not suffer. Then you decide your chill factor: teeth tingler, numb tongue and brain freeze. After adding the toppings in, you watch them make the delicious concoction with liquid nitrogen! IT'S LIT! The smoke quickly spreads and it makes waiting to take that first bite even more exciting. The brain freeze texture was pretty rocky and reminded me of Dippin' Dots, more of a to-go type ice cream but if I were to eat here again I would order the tingler because I love that OG creaminess! Still good though and every bite until the end was consistently smoky, I felt like I was in Antarctica with the way I was breathing eating that ice cream! Definitely worth a try at least once if you've never experienced liquid nitrogen desserts. read more

Brain freeze! Literally, you can get a brain freeze the highest level of cold for your ice cream order! Tongue Numb is the second level. If you want the ice cream with nitrogen smoke oozing from it, make sure to get the brain freeze! I ordered Vanilla with almond in Tongue Numb, and it wasn't as nearly as fun as my kids and nephews were having with their brain freeze orders. Look at my photos! This place is somewhere you'd go once for the novelty. Liquid nitrogen ice cream is nothing new, but I was excited to hear that we could experience it not too far from Seattle. I was dropping off my sister in law and decided to swing by here for a late night snack. Let's break it down to the pros and cons. Pros: Lots of base flavors (ranging from custard, milk, lactose free, almond milk, etc), lots of toppings to choose from too (the first topping is free, additional toppings cost 50 cents extra, you can customize how cold you want your ice cream. Your order of ice cream is customized to your liking and made to order Cons: They use the same cup (yes-singular=the same damn cup) to measure out all the bases (ie: mixing dairy with non dairy bases)-when I asked the employee to wash out the measuring cup before pouring my base he responded with "oh we use different bowls for each customer, so you can't cross contaminate dairy and non-dairy"-excuse me, but you cross contaminate by pouring my non dairy lactose free base by pouring it into the same unwashed cup that you measured out my sister in law's custard base.... This is a serious health violation and can be potentially deadly for lactose intolerant people or people with nut allergies. If the employees don't wash the measuring cups, they probably don't wash the measuring spoons either... Service here is nothing to be amazed with, if anything this is the chipotle of ice cream, without any real ingredients. We ended up getting the pistachio and the citric substance, but I wasn't impressed with either of them. The ice cream itself here is nothing remarkable, it's all syrup so it's terribly sweet. The almonds that I had in my pistachio ice cream tasted oily-a sign of old almonds. I threw mine away after eating about 1/4 of it because it just wasn't that great. I definitely won't be coming back. read more

First day of the year of 2014 and I felt like a kid again! A day before I turn 22 and it was most rejuvenating to have the sensational excitement as a 5 year old. I apparently have never heard of Sub-Zero Ice Cream until New Years. A couple girls and I ate at a Korean restaurant in Federal Way and wanted some dessert afterwards. We were looking on Yelp to find a dessert place that would still be open at 10 pm on New Years night. There was a place called Sub-Zero that was "supposedly" opened till 11. I know that Yelp doesn't always have the right Holiday hours nor changed hours. We parked right up front, excited to get our teeth tooth satisfied, only to find out that they were closing (more liked closed). However the kind girl working to close up the shop attended to our. Eeds and decided to make one more round for us before she closed. Of course we tipped her good C: for her kind services. So I have heard about the whole ordeal on making ice cream with Nitro- something but did not know this place was going to be my first experiencd to watch. We got to choose a flavor (pineapple, coconut I think) and toppings but I did not want any. Then you choose a temperature "Chill Factor": Teeth Tingler, Numb Tongue, or Brain Freeze. I chose the middle one to be safe, Numb Tongue. My friend ordered the Teeth Tingler which wasn't that great since it melted quicker. Numb Tongue is a great way to keep it not too rock-hard nor mushy. Of course the way it is made cannot much be described as how it looks in ral life but let's just say, the girl's hands disappeared in a cloud of white smoke and returned from liquids in the bowl to a hardened solid chunk of ice cream. So interesting. I felt like a kid being given candy for the first time. I love sights like these more than if I were to go to the Grand Canyons to "sight-see". I want to go again! But Federal Way is a bit far for me to drive just for ice cream. I heard from my sister that there will be one heading towards Puyallup! read more

Finally made it in! Many flavors to choose from, yummy mix in and even different ice cream bases,( I got custard). My kids loved it, I enjoyed my flavors... I will be back. read more

This place uses liquid nitrogen to make ice cream which makes it unique compared to other places. Walking in you see a lot of seating and a big tank of nitrogen gas. They have a lot of flavor and toppings which is awesome. Another cool factor about this place is that you can choose what type of milk you want so if you are lactose intolerant they do have lactose free milk!! The way this place works is: -Pick the flavor you want and the toppings (they have a big board that tells you all the flavors and the toppings) -Tell them what type of milk you want -The chill factor: You get to choose three factors. Teeth tingler, numb tongue, and brain freeze. The numb tongue reminds me of dip in dots and some have complained that the brain freeze is too much for them -After you pick everything you get to watch the process which is fun to watch. You will most likely see a lot of people taking a video of it so do not be surprised Note: If you get the citrus flavors you can choose the level of citrus you want and they are willing to change it if you are not happy with the flavor or even the chill factor Unfortunately the ice cream was okay to me, but I think the big hype for this place is the fact that they use nitrogen gas to make the ice cream and they make it infront of you. I want to give 5 stars to the girl who was working there when I was there with my friend. Poor girl was working by herself and it was getting so busy. Unfortunately someone was not thinking and tried to flush things that shouldn't have been flushed causing the toilet to flood and she had to deal with it all by herself despite having a big line. She was also willing to take the time to fix a customer's ice cream because the chill factor was too much for them. read more
