There are several transfer stations in the area and Renton seemed like the right one for me. When you go to the station there are two places to go: head into the right fenced area for recyclable items. This service is free of change and self-serve; the bins are clearly labeled. If you are recycling textiles, I highly recommend either bringing another person or a stick - the hatch doors lift up to open and it's super annoying! Continue straight and stop at the building for garbage. This is fee for service, and I paid ~$30 for a sedan loaded with all the things. Drive up to the giant hole in the ground, chuck your stuff in, feel lighter that you're living space now has less stuff in it. Great help for cutting down the stuff I need to move! The only person I spoke with was at the window and he was friendly and efficient. This is really more of a self-serve thing so you can do things at your leisure.

Now they installed curbs at every stall approximately 15 feet from the dumping point. This makes things MUCH harder, heavy items you used to be able to tip over the gate and dump over the edge from the bed of your truck now have to be carried and lifted over the gate. I watched an elderly women who was alone attempting to carry her large, heavy trash cans to the dumping point. She was NOT able to do this on her own. Other people had to help her carry heavy items to the gate. I asked the guy in the booth what the logic is for this. He told me it's because someone COULD fall over the gate and get hurt. Now you have to repeatedly jump in and out of your truck numerous times, making the potential for injuries much more likely. This is government thinking at it's finest.
