Went here first time! I had my 82 yr old mother with me. We found it, backed in, started to unload and a worker started yelling at my mom, literally screaming at her to separate her three boxes of styrofoam. I got out of the car and witnessed the guy continue to harass her about separating stuff. I firmly asked my mom to get back in the car, then the guy started yelling at me! I just turned around and said "you're rude" and we drive off with our styrofoam! Good god, it's just from packing inside a delivered box, nothing wet nothing else. He was truly being a jerk and to an 82 year old lady!! There has got to be other places to drop off styrofoam and the workers there should be doing the separating. I came on a Friday morning to do my styrofoam recycling. It wasn't busy, and the workers were direct about where specific items went. A couple of things I would recommend before going: Pre sort your items to dispose of before you get there. Make sure everything is clean! When in doubt, flag someone down and ask directly where something goes/if they take it. Wear something loose and comfortable to move around in. The only suggestion I would make to Styro Recycle is to communicate online what they do and do not take. As of today, their website does not appear to be working. I respect the work that they do and I'm happy to do as much as I can on my own, but I think that by updating their online presence and posting examples of what they do and do not take, it would make it easier and faster for all involved! read more

I love that these folks are here! Styrofoam and plastic bags & packaging - a lot of it can be recycled here. It's a drive from Seattle, but nobody else takes all this would be garbage and repurposes it FOR FREE. There are services available that will pick up my foam and bags on my doorstep, but not for free! Thankfully, I have some place to store mine and some neighbors (yes, I keep my neighbors trash styrofoam) in my garage, so I can maximize my trips to every couple of months with a full car. My kids are always amazed when they help me load up the car, just how much stuff and space it all takes up AND THAT WE CAN KEEP IT ALL OUT OF THE LANDFILL. The folks that work here will be helpful, maybe stern, but always helpful when you sort and unload your business. It's quick. It's easy. It's free. It's recycling, most of the miserable plastics that package our salad mix and deli meat AND those big blocks of foam that kept that new lamp I just got from getting damaged in transit. Come here. I needed styrofoam recycling and lo and behold, there it was, right on my way home. I didn't see a business sign on the storefront, but there was a handwritten sign to go around to warehouse in the back. They had signs in back that masks were required. Drop off was quick. You just back in and drop off styrofoam in a big bin. Easy peasy! read more

"Styrofoam cannot be recycled in your curbside recycling containers..." came up in conversation several months ago so I was pretty frustrated when one of the food delivery companies I started using at the beginning of the COVID closures kept using it for packaging. The recycling facility way closer to home is closed during this time so I was glad to find this one. Their hours are limited to Mon-Fri 8am-3:30pm right now so I had to take some time off work to make it but I'm still thankful they're open. Once we got there it was quick and simple. We just put on our face masks (required until further notice) and quickly unloaded the car into one of the huge boxes they have sitting in the warehouse entrance (we were outside the whole time). There was an employee on the other side of the box to provide instructions, which in our case was just her pointing at their styrofoam box. No money is exchanged for the styrofoam so when we were done we just got back in the car and drove home. read more

We recently moved, order some new things, everything was packed in styrofoam. So. Much. Styrofoam. (If Best Buy hadn't taken away the box that the tv came in, I don't think that styrofoam would have fit in the car.) We packed the back of a Scion xB with styrofoam nd bubble wrap today and drove to Kent. THANK YOU Styro Recycle! I asked what they do with the styro. They "melt it down" until it's "like taffy" and they put it into buckets. Then they send it to places that use it to make plastic products like eyeglass ear pieces and such. Had I known they also take plastic bags, we would have brought those along too. read more

This place is great! They have recycling for clean, white styrofoam, flattened cardboard, those thin foam sheets, soft foam, and packing peanuts. They may have more but that is what I've used so far. We have come with a jam packed car full of cardboard and styrofoam and they have always had space in the bins for everything as they rotate them often. I've also never had to wait for a spot to pull in to unload. Hugely grateful I heard of this place because I can't stand the thought of styrofoam going into the landfill and sometimes we have too many boxes for our recycling bin. 11/10 recommend! read more

It looks like they have a website that can help you understand what materials they do and don't accept. I see that the hours on their website mentioned that they are open between 8 am - 5 pm M-F, but just wanted to remind you that they now open at 9 am instead of 8 am, so their website does NOT show accurate operating hours. The reason I think it's important to mention that is that they do not allow after hours drop offs. The items that I recycle here are pretty specific, which are any excess FLATTENED cardboard boxes and any styrofoam that we have at home. I didn't even know it was possible to recycle styrofoam until I googled their services, but it's great that they do. If you do not flatten your cardboard boxes, they staff will make sure you do before they allow you to drop it off. For those of you looking for recycling centers for everything else...like plastic bottles, electronics, etc, this is not the place that will accept any of these. Their website, the signs you see when you arrive, and the onsite staff will specifically tell you what they will and won't accept. Also - I don't mind being told that they can't accept something that I thought they would, but I think some of the staff can be kind of reprimanding or straight up rude if you try to drop off anything else than they allow. Customer service is very minimal (hence the docked star), but I do appreciate the services that they offer, and will continue to use them. read more

I have been going here for a few years now. The recycling sites, including the state ones, leave them off their lists for some reason (jealousy?) Styro takes more than just styrofoam. They take the flex foam that feels "greasy", but not the expanding kind. I do not know why, but the food trays that are tan can't go. All other colors can, but clean them thoroughly. I wash mine in the dishwasher on top of my top rack of dishes. I have very little styrofoam, but take many bags of "films". That is plastic bags of all kinds, including grocery bags, chip and frozen vegetable bags. The staff is very noce and helps you. read more

I have had no prior Styrofoam recycling experience (we just try not to use it) so I had nothing to compare my experience. I did call to ensure they were open and the man who answered the phone was both friendly and professional and outlined the process for drop-off, which I really appreciated. Throwing something as damaging and enduring as Styrofoam in the garbage is not an option for us. We'd rather save it up and take a drive south to get rid of it responsibly and safely. SR make it very easy, there are large cardboard bins with clear instructions as to what goes where, and you never need to speak to another person if you don't want too. There was a woman working who helped us if we needed it, but really it's such a safe, easy way to get rid of the stuff. They also take clean bubble wrap, which really is terrific. I'm so grateful for this business, even with their limited hours. It's a little hard to find but it's worth it. read more

I am a big recycling fan and would always break my heart throwing Styrofoam in the trash knowing it would end up in the landfill forever. I did a google search and found this place. It's so easy too, you bring your clean Styrofoam, flex foam, bubble wrap, packing peanuts, grocery bags and put them in their respective receptacles. The staff there is really nice and will tell you where to put your item if you aren't sure where it goes. You save the environment, and these items can be recycled and be reused. Just pull your car onto their ramp and walk up, super easy. It's located in an industrial park, and not very well labeled. I followed my gps and got me there. read more

This place is a godsend. They've moved to Kent so it's a little bit of a haul for me in NE Seattle, but well worth the trip if you have a lot of styrofoam packing materials. I collect it and then bring a load down about once a year. Everyone there has always been nice and willing to answer my questions. I really like the idea that there is a place that saves the landfills. Essentially, you, me, ( the consumer) drives these recyclables to the facility. Styro Recycle gets your product, and presumably turns it into something from which they profit. I'm ok with that. But, the staff do nothing to make this a pleasant experience. I had a car load full of goods. Two staff members stood there looking, not once offering to help. I guess that's OK. But, if you should commit the sin of putting the wrong goods in the wrong bins, they are really quick to remind you to read what's written on the bin, and admonish you for making that mistake. It's the type of treatment I expect from the DMV. Kind of leaves a sour taste. read more

I shop for everything but groceries and gasoline online so I always have a small mountain of boxes and packing materials to recycle. My city garbage service handles the cardboard but not Styrofoam in any form and I just cannot bear to put it in the garbage. I am so happy to have a FREE Styrofoam recycling facility nearby that is open on Saturdays too! Unlike the other reviewers, I had no problem finding the place and even though I obviously did not read their website very well (they tell you to remove all tape and separate by type) I did not have ANY problem standing there with my entire car filled to the brim with bags of Styrofoam and peanuts to remove the tape and sorting correctly. The woman who was on "up front" duty was super nice and even helped me figure out which bin some of the pieces should go in.
