It's Sunday and I'm needing a haircut and happened to see a sign on the sidewalk the shop is open. So I decided to give it a try. I'm so glad that I did. Nancy is the sole proprietor of this small hair salon and it is kept meticulously clean and orderly. Since it's a Sunday, I was seated right away and after asking me how I would like my hair cut, she got to work right away on my overgrown mop. With a professional efficiency, she trimmed the sides quickly and then worked on the styling. In 15 minutes I was cleaned up and looking mighty dapper. If you are looking for a hair cut, I highly recommend you give this salon a try. You won't regret it. I will be coming back each time I need a hair cut. read more

Honestly you get what you pay for, half of the price of a normal haircut, and worst haircut I've ever gotten... choppy, no proper layers (you can literally see different chunks of hairs with different lengths) and the ends are cut super blunt. My hair looks blocky lol. Didn't wash my hair or even cut my bangs, saying that they were "good enough." Would not recommend to other girls, please just go to a proper salon and spend that $$! read more

Style N Smile - Oops! - Hair Salons Near Me - San Mateo, California

I got In immediately when I came. The lady was quick, straightforward, and kind. she cut my hair very quickly and good result. Paid $35 for it, which is not too bad afterall compared to other salons who like to overcharge people for a simple trim, especially ladies. read more

First time getting a professional haircut since COVID started. Chose this place due to its location. It's a one woman show, Nancy, who opened up in 2018. Expect a no frills haircut, $25 for men's cut (+$5 for wash) and $30 for women's. She did a solid job and was done in under 15min. She did a solid job and I would come back. Accepts credit or cash. read more

COVID COVID Era Update: Nancy continues to do a great job during the pandemic. I have been going regularly except for periods when businesses were mandated closed due to COVID. Nancy disinfects the chairs thoroughly after every cut and wears her mask at all times, plus uses the hand gel without fail on each visit, before and after each customer. I'm completely pleased with the results every time. My wife always comments on what a great hair cut I got when I return home from Style N Smile. I wouldn't go anywhere else ! read more

I have had Nancy cut and color and style my hair for years now and cannot say enough great things about the outcome and the person. Previous to CoVid she added highlights and toners to make the transition from colored hair to naturally gray hair and it worked ! The amazing thing is her hair cuts are as good if not better. She's efficient, quick and affordable. My only advice is to try and make an appointment, she's only one person and you should have a happy result. read more

Nancy is a lovely lady. She is a professional and does great quality haircuts/styles.

I was looking for a place to get a haircut closer to my home in San Mateo. My regular salon is in San Francisco so I've been looking for a more conveniently located salon. Based on Yelp and Nextdoor recommendations, I decided to try Nancy. I will never go there again. I brought my mother with me for a haircut, too, so Nancy had the opportunity to add 2 new regular clients if we had been happy. For a lower priced haircut, my expectations aren't too high, but this experience was ridiculous. Nancy didn't ask either of us if we wanted our hair shampooed, so we passed on that - it costs extra. I assumed she knew what she was doing with a dry cut. She was finished in less than 15 minutes for each of us and didn't style our hair in any way. Neither of us is happy with the haircut we received. It was $30 each - no shampoo, no style and bad cuts. One side of my hair is slightly shorter than the other. I considered stopping by again to get it fixed, but decided that my mask will cover the problem until my hair grows out to get another cut by my usual guy. He always washes and styles my hair. When I leave his salon, I feel good about the cut. It costs $35. When I left Nancy's I didn't feel good at all and my mother didn't like her cut either. Terrible. Her place is very clean and I saw her give a little boy a haircut and she did a good job. Good for him, but bad experience for us. read more

Nancy needs to learn to have better business etiquette; gratuity is entirely the full discretion of customers, not hers nor anybody else. If Nancy reminds and expects substantial amount of gratuity consistently, perhaps opening her own store & becoming the sole store owner may not be a good move because it becomes an option afterwards. I left Nancy for one of her competitors near by! read more

My kids and I have been going to Nancy for about 5 years. She keeps her shop meticulously clean and keeps up to date with the latest Covid regulations. I like to get in and out with minimal fanfare, which is exactly what Nancy offers for a reasonable price. She is a seasoned professional and we all appreciate her. read more

Nice, clean, efficient, responsive and great haircuts. Nancy is awesome.

Great place for a haircut. Nancy is great at what she does and is super nice. The place is clean and organized. I'm glad that this place is still open given that many small shops have closed during this pandemic. It feels good to support small business because these nice people depend on it and it can mean a huge difference in their life. Come here for a nice haircut and good company. read more

Wow!!!! I have not had a haircut in 2 years and my usual girl is always booked. I have been contemplating getting a haircut similar to Pink's hair style in a particular photo (see photos attached). I was so nervous because I have extremely curly hair and no one ever cuts it correctly except for one person, until now and let me tell you, I was so impressed that I will never go to anyone else again. I cannot believe it only took Nancy 30 minutes, if that, to nail this cut! Nancy, I know you were not a fan of the picture I showed you, but the haircut you gave me exceeded my expectations! You have a customer for life! Thank you! read more
