You might think that as long as you're in France, eat French food, but in Nice where one can drive across the border to Italy very easily, there is much Italian food gold to be found. And yet Stuzzico can combine classic Italian dishes with some Niçoise standards as well in a way only this city can.
As long as I was here, ordering the ratatouille was a must and it came out very tender and melted in the mouth somewhat with some bite at the very back, just the way it should be and far above other versions I've had to eat in France. But the gnocchi are incredibly soft and fall apart very quickly at a single bite, reportedly far more authentic than any other "hard" or "chewy" version I've had in the USA, and my first taste of real arancini was simply unforgettable - perfectly crispy on the outside and gooey and meaty inside.
We were not in Italy long enough to try much of the food across the border, but if I get a chance to try these there, I will definitely jump at the chance. But for now, Stuzzico fits the bill perfectly on a trip to Nice.
