Took my 1964 Impala SS over to have the transmission looked at. Was greeted by Tim. I was happy to see it was an old school shop. Just what I was looking for. They tore down the Powerglide and explained what needed to be done. Because they are more than a transmission shop, I agreed to the overhaul of the transmission and also had them fix the real main seal, the oil pan gasket and replace the power steering lines. I showed up the day before they said it was done to drop off a chrome fill tube I wanted installed and got to meet Koko, the technician working on the tranny. He explained and showed me everything that was wrong. Awesome guy. Jake, Tim's son, kept me in the loop with the pricing so I was never caught off guard. They promised it would be done Friday and it was. Koko and Victor stayed late to ensure everything was up to par before allowing me to take it home. Much appreciated. Someone said this place was a diamond in the rough. That is TRULY an understatement. I was referred to this place (not for my transmission) because I had the strangest sputtering thing going on with my car. I'm fairly mechanically savvy but could not for the life of me figure out what was wrong and wasn't willing to get bent over by some con artist mechanic. At first glance the place looked kind of seedy, but after walking in the office I realized there's a lot of rich history here and their operation seemed honed and very professional. The owner Tim is straight to the point and also quite charismatic. I was very well taken care of and at a cost well under what I had imagined. They have been so reliable, and so helpful in keeping my baby ('06 Chrysler 300 Limited) running like new since I got her at 0 miles. It is hard not to share my great satisfaction with the world. How many hard working pickups do you know that still have a perfectly good 46 year old transmission? My 1972 Chevrolet C-10 gets all of her needs met at Stu's. They have cared for her transmission since 1974 when I drove it in and said, "I am having problems shifting gears." The then owner examined it and said, "When did you last check the transmission fluid?" I said, " Huh?" He filled up the empty reservoir or whatever that space is and said there would be no charge as long as I checked in periodically to check the transmission. I was having trouble with AAMCO, so I towed my car here where I met with Jake and he was very friendly and understanding. Before coming here I spoke with Jose and explained to him that AAMCO said I had to get a new transmission or a rebuild. My D5 light was blinking after I had my mechanic fixed my rear main seal. Jose said it sounded like an electrical problem, that he would need my car for 1-2 days to find the problem. Two days later I get a call stating I had a broken cord that led to my transmission. He fixed it, he saved me from replacing a transmission that didn't need to ne replaced. I highly recommend this to anyone. Thank all of you for all of your help. My 1989 Jag had been in storage for 15 years. To restore it the first thing I wanted to know how was the transmission, then the overall condition. Stu's was recommended by several people in law and fire. Surprise after their reasonable charge it was decided the Transmisdion was good and I fact the car started right up. I was given a estimate of maximum $4000.00 to complete the overhaul of the car. Over the course of three years I have not been able to drive the car. Every time it was picked up for new tires (low brakes) had to go back more money picked it up for a new antenna had to go bake car would not start more money. It had a new power steering pump went back twice. I was told they would stand by the work they do. Power steering leaking went back. When I called they $500.00. They claimed I authorized it on Oct 12 2020. When I could prove they never talked to me they became totally volatile. These father and son play good guy bad guy. The son told me come pick up you car no charge The dad called back and wanted $678.00. I paid and had a MAN come with me and their demeanor was subdued. They do not want to see the car back so no warranty. If you are a woman and or senior do not go there. I waited months for the repairs since it was a re-do. The repairs were never completed. If you question anything one goes off and is rude. Just beware know before you go. You may not see your car for months. I took my car here as a referral from my mechanic who is pretty honest & I have known him for a long long time. I got the transmission put in & after 8 months it didn't work anymore, they charged me $1600. I went back a couple of months later because the service engine light was on & it was running funny. They changed a couple of sensors. I then brought it back a couple of weeks later as there were still problems. I don't have paperwork on that & I forgot what the problem was. Then 8 months after getting a new transmission my car did not want to move. I was stuck at work at 11pm & had to get towed home. I called them & told them what happened. They sent out a tow truck to pick it up & had it for a long time. I had to pay for a rental car & they keep telling me they would call me to tell me what was wrong. They never called me. They had my car for 2 weeks & I had to call every day. I kept asking what's wrong, they said I don't know. I had to go away for a few days so I told them I couldn't come for it for a few days & they said that would give them time to figure it out. I left on a wed. & came home on Sun. I called & said what's wrong w/ it, is it fixed & they said I don't know what's wrong w/ it yet. (my car was there for 7 days now). I called the next day & they said they didn't know but the transmission was sitting on a block. I said when will it be done they said tomorrow, although they still didn't know what was wrong w/ it. I called the next day, they said tomorrow. I called the next day & they said ya come on by. Then they called me back a couple of hours later & said it won't be ready (they still never told me what was wrong w/ it). They offered to pay for a rental car for 1 DAY! I went the next day & picked up the car. They said something about mounts & said they rebuilt the transmission, changed my oil (why are they changing my oil?) & charged me $250. They told me they didn't charge for the towing (yes they did & if I would have known they were going to charge me I would have AAA done it for free). They said they would honor the warranty even though I was over the mileage. Ok, since when does a new transmission not work after 8/months or 12,000 miles? Wicked Retarded! I drove off & over the weekend I had more problems, it shifted wrong, lacked power, had a hard time getting going, it was a mess! I was livid! I stopped payment on the check. I refused to go back. For what? Another 2 weeks of me paying for my own rental car? Being told they would call when they never did? They don't know what's wrong w/ it? STU'S TRANSMISSION IS INCOMPETENT, INCAPABLE, PATHETIC, LIARS, LAME & HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO FIX TRANSMISSIONS! THEY SHOULD PAY ME BACK THE $1600 I PAID & CLOSE SHOP! I reported them to the Bureau of Automotive Repair. THEY DID NOTHING! I NEVER EVEN GOT A REPORT THAT HE SAID HE WAS GOING TO "GET TOGETHER" & SEND ME! This all happened in Jan. I recently sold that car as it was a mess & I did not have the time or the money to pour into it. I got the car appraised & it said the transmission had shifting problems! Stu was open and honest the first time I went in and had him figure out that my check engine light was on because of a worn gas cap saving me $100 so I trusted him. But when I brought it back because it was overheating I was surprised to find he was lacking in the honesty department. After telling him I wanted my overheating car diagnosed and that I thought it was possibly a faulty fan, he looked at it and told me my fan wasn't working not knowing that it actually was working because I heard it turn on before I brought it to him the real issue I found out on my own was that it was a faulty fan switch not allowing the fan to turn on when it's supposed to. He also said my hood cable was broken as well when I knew that it wasn't it just wasn't assembled correctly before I shut the hood a few days earlier. He quoted everything plus labor at $660 claiming the fan and hood cable needed replacement when I knew those parts were fine like I said, he also said my radiator hoses weren't assembled properly which I also knew was wrong because I attached them correctly myself. I told him I didn't have the money and that I would bring it back, yet he continued to harass me saying bad things would happen to the car if I didn't allow his team to fix it. He tried hard to hustle me and I realize he was doing that because he could have made a killing in sales replacing parts he thought that I thought I needed that were actually irrelevant to the overheating issue. After reading info on the internet, thank the Lord, I was able to make minor repairs myself that completely stopped the overheating issue which basically was a new radiator cap, radiator, thermostat, and fan switch, all totaling way less than his absurd quote. I hope that his business suffers because of his dirty antics so that he can learn to be honest. He thought I was another silly customer that was oblivious to what goes on with vehicles, also thinking he could get away with misleading me to believe certain parts needed replacing so he could make extra cash. Beware! This place is out to take your money. Over priced for lousy work. Took my car here a few month ago when I noticed a leak. They said I needed new axle seals. At the time my transmission drain plug needed to be replaced, so I add that on the job. You would figure a transmission shop that drained your transmission would check the oil for metal. Instead they went on fixing the seals not mentioning my transmission was bad. And of course, the final price was well over the estimate. Their excuse was it took us hours to remove the drain bolt. Honest & knowledgeable - BEST MECHANICS I EVER FOUND!!! I've been to Stu's twice now and both were great experiences. I have to tell you that this most recent one was off the charts great!!! I have an older Ford Explorer that needed a catalytic converter. The Owner, Tim, was so informative about the process but better yet he worked really hard to get me the best pricing on some pretty expensive parts. At the end of the repair, all the labor, parts and EXTRA parts included, were less than the originally quoted cost of the converter. This amounted to about a $1500 savings which I think most shops would have put in their pocket and I would have been none the wiser. Instead Tim graciously extended me the cost savings. I've gone to Stu's three times so far with my salvaged Scion TC. Yeah, I'm one of those who thought she'd save some money with a salvaged car and now I'm paying for it. Thankfully, I have Stu's number saved in my phone :) First it was my left bearing back in February.....just over $260 with the 10% yelp discount. I'll be honest, I have no idea if that is good or bad pricing but what I appreciated was the professionalism and honesty of Tim (I believe he is the owner??) and the technician who helped me (didn't get his name but he's a latino gentleman). I asked my fiance to find a place about a month ago because the car was having issues again. Fiance went to yelp :) and chose Stu's again! We thought it was the right bearing and got it replaced along with the brakes for just under $600 with the 10% yelp discount (although my fiance was new to Stu's, the car wasn't....but they honored the discount anyways!). By the way, once you've become a customer, you have the option of providing your email address so they can send you e-coupons. Turns out I had a great coupon in my inbox this whole time but I had forgotten about it. It's nice that they still honored the yelp discount however. Here we are a month later, thinking it's now the transmission, we took the car back yesterday. I got a call from Tim who tells me that in fact the problem was the steering knuckle. So now I'm freaking out....I'm thinking I'm in for a steering knuckle, a bearing, AND the transmission service! Tim tells me that because they didn't catch the steering knuckle the first time, nor the bearing the second time, that he will only charge me for parts and labor on the steering knuckle......the bearing will be redone because it's still under warranty and the transmission service is free! So I went from paying close to $1000 to getting it to practically half that amount! Personally I'm grateful for Tim's honesty and integrity in the matter. I love that he's a straight shooter. He let's you know what kind of work your car needs right away and what work can be postponed for later when you have the funds. The place is surprisingly clean for a car shop, I must say. And everyone just seems happy to be there....from customers to the technicians. I think that says a whole lot about how they run their business! Tim assures me that the work is warrantied and that I should have no further problems for a while. Let's hope.
