Just had Dan do a trans fluid change for me.

I was referred to Dan here at community Trans about 15 years ago. They are a great old school family shop.I don't think he messes with the Jap cars much but he's the best on anything domestic at a fair price. Right on Dan, thanks for beeing an honest shop with integrity.

I found Francis through an online search because of the many positive reviews, and during our first interaction he was friendly, professional, and seemed very knowledgeable. He ordered the part directly from Acura and quoted me a fair price. My car was ready the following day, but when I arrived to pick it up, Francis informed me that my vehicle had been involved in an accident while in his care. He explained that another driver had been speeding through the parking lot and crashed into him. He gave me the other driver's information, and I contacted him immediately. The other driver gave a very different version of events. He stated that he was backing out of a parking space and did not see Francis. He also told me that Francis provided his driver's license information but refused to share insurance information. Now, more than a month later, I still have a damaged vehicle and have not received insurance information from Francis despite multiple phone calls, text messages, and outreach from Mercury Insurance. I trusted this shop to take care of my car, not return it to me in worse condition and leave me responsible for a $500 deductible. What has been most disappointing is the lack of accountability and urgency. Francis acted as though this situation was not a major concern and repeatedly assured me that the other driver would "take care of it," which has not happened. According to the other driver, Francis even asked him to change the story about what happened. I chose this business because of its strong reviews and the image Francis presents, but my experience has been extremely stressful and disappointing. I believe customers deserve honesty, transparency, and responsibility when their vehicle is in someone else's care.

So I decided to give this place a try considering this place was close to my house and they had really good reviews. This place made me lose trust in mechanics and made me believe that the stereotype of mechanics is true, that they will screw you over to make more money. I brought my car in and the manager drove my car for about 5 minutes. He came back and said I needed the transmission rebuilt (at this point I knew he was trying to screw me over already, like how can you tell within 5 minutes). I told him, "nah I'm good.. I'll go elsewhere", and then he proceeds to try and offer me some type of loan payment plan and at this point I just nodded and let him do his whole speech because I really didn't want to argue and wanted to leave. Next, he says, "we can also buy your car" . In my head I'm like "What!!!?" Anyways, turns out my transmission oil just ran out. I had a huge transmission leak that needed to be sealed up which definitely didn't cost a whole new transmission or the need to sell my car. This place could've took their time and not jumped to conclusions for personal gains. Never coming to this place again and told all my close friends and family not to come here. Crooks I tell you.

On November 5, 2025, my car suddenly displayed a P1009 engine code, so I took it to a different shop for diagnosis. The technician there was immediately surprised when he checked my oil. He told me the oil was extremely black, dirty, and low, and said it did not look like it had been changed recently, if at all. The dirty oil caused damage to my VVT solenoid, which now had to be replaced. I was charged $525 to correct the issue that occurred as a result of what appears to be a lack of proper oil service at Lakewood 76. I have photos of my oil dipstick showing how dark the oil was, as well as the invoice from the repair shop documenting the condition of my oil and the damage it caused. There were no oil leaks, and I drive my car regularly with proper maintenance intervals, so there is no reason my oil should have been that dirty after less than 3 months with normal driving use. I trusted this shop to do a basic oil change, and that trust was broken. Because of this experience and the unnecessary expense it caused me, I will not be returning and cannot recommend this shop to others.

They responded quickly, were courteous, and didn't try to tack on a diagnostic fee just to take a look. When I dropped off the car, the technician walked me through their process, starting with the bulbs before moving into any potential electrical issues (which I really appreciated.) It ended up being the simplest fix: both bulbs were burned out. They had everything replaced within a few hours. Fair pricing, clear communication, and no upselling. I'll definitely be back for future repairs. Side note- they have the cutest shop kitten. ‍

I brought my vehicle here for many years for routine work mostly out of convenience. What followed…read morewas a long, expensive performance art piece about how many times the same job can be done incorrectly. Highlights: Rack and pinion replaced FOUR times. Not "adjusted." Not "revisited." Replaced. Four. Times. And somehow it still wasn't right. Still feels like I'm driving a haunted house, full of surprises. Alternator replacement done with the flair of a minimalist. As in: the car left with one belt installed on a dual-belt system. Someone decided "one belt is plenty!" it's a bold, eco-friendly statement. Experimental? Sure. Functional? Only if you're into spontaneous roadside adventures. And once I decided to replace the belts myself the tensioner was missing from the assembly. Every time I'd take it in for something routine it'd come out with an additional issue. It's like a subscription box, but for mechanical failures. Warranty work that exists mostly as a concept. Multiple issues that were supposedly covered had to be chased repeatedly, re-explained, and in some cases paid for again just to get the car back. If you enjoy learning the fine art of "following up" on work that was already warranted, you'll feel right at home. The real magic is that none of this was framed as uncertainty or troubleshooting. Each visit came with confidence. Confidence is doing a lot of work here. At a certain point you stop being frustrated and start being impressed. Four rack-and-pinion attempts suggests either: 1. a deep commitment to learning by repetition, or 2. a philosophical rejection of "fixing" as a concept. Either way, I now know more about my car than I ever wanted to, which is great, except I paid someone else to know those things. If you enjoy returning to the same shop repeatedly to fix the same problem while being told this time it's definitely sorted, you'll love it here. If you want your car repaired correctly the first time or even the second time, and have warranty work honored without a prolonged correspondence, I'd recommend literally anywhere else. Including YouTube, a flashlight, and a ratchet set.
