If you're a sweet tooth like me, C's Mad Batter Cakery is a MUST try!…read more I've been supporting this local business for years, this pastry chef actually made my baby shower cake years ago when she was still working from home, and she has never let me down! Every item made at C's is so delicately done, you can immediately tell how much time, love and effort was put into every single recipe as soon as you take your first bite! From beginning to end, you will receive a quality experience at C's. In addition, the ambiance of this place is so warm, welcoming and aesthetically pleasing. It feels like a spring afternoon in Paris! From fruit pastries, cinnamon rolls, and custom cakes, there are so many options that will make it hard to choose from and will more than likely leave you wanting more. I've seen the viral fruit pastries all over social media and safe to say C definitely has her recipe down. The raspberry pastry was a perfect blend of sweet and tart while the cupcakes were rich in flavor while also being a perfect balance of sweet, soft and perfectly portioned icing. This place felt like Willy Wonka opened a milkshake bar for the Instagram generation…read more We stopped by Black Rock Dessert while looking for ice cream and instead found milkshakes on steroids. We ordered the Dust Storm: a vanilla milkshake with chocolate bits, topped with a giant blondie skewered dramatically on top, plus whipped cream, sprinkles, and chocolate drizzle. The rim of the jar was coated in marshmallow dip and graham cracker crumbs because apparently subtlety has left the chat. Honestly, the presentation was on point and exactly the kind of milkshake kids dream about. Which is why we ordered it. My tween declared it "the best milkshake I've ever seen in my life," and honestly, that alone made it worth the stop on our mother-daughter trip. Taste-wise, it leaned very sweet for me and didn't have a ton of flavor depth beyond sugar overload. But clearly the goal here is maximal fun and aesthetic, and they absolutely nailed that. It's basically a photo op you can drink. The shop itself was surprisingly quiet when we visited in the evening--we had the whole place to ourselves--but there were games to play while waiting for our order (we pulled out Pick Up Sticks, which transported me straight back to my 90s childhood living room). The ladies at the counter were also incredibly kind and patient explaining the menu and flavors to us. If you're looking for an over-the-top dessert experience your kids will talk about for days, this is your place.

I am a bit torn on Black Rock, but it's a great dessert spot nonetheless…read more Stopped in at Black Rock Dessert on a Thursday evening. Just one lone employee was running the place. In my opinion, it wasn't enough. There was a steady flow of people, and she couldn't keep up with orders and customer service. We opted for two small scoops of ice cream for the kids: chocolate and Cinnamon Toast Crunch. We also ordered the sizzling blonde brownie sundae. It was about $20 for three items. The ice cream was very good, especially the Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Very unique flavor and great texture. The blondie was a bit of a letdown. First, the blondie was not "sizzling". It wasn't even really warm. Only placed in a waffle iron for a few seconds. Second, it seemed very dry and crumbly, maybe even overbaked. I thought the ideas at Black Rock are fun, and I think trying one of their milkshakes should be my next visit. However, there are a lot of great ice cream spots in Reno. For just ice cream, I think there is some heavy competition.

I hadn't read the reviews before ordering, as I was frantic in trying to find a bakery that could do a small custom cake less than 24 hours before my Mother-in-Law's birthday. I was desperate and willing to take anything, and Leigh Anne was very sweet and patient with me on the phone. We settled on the Carrot L-Orange cake (heavenly). I forget the exact size, but I remember she said it would feed ~6 people which was perfect, and truly it could have fed up to 12+ people as that's how many servings we got out of it. That cake was tall, flavor-packed, and very rich. The complimentary carrot, nutmeg, and orange flavors had a warm spice that had me questioning why it had been over a decade since I last had carrot cake! It is criminally underrated in my peer group, or at least it was until we had this one. You know you've got a great recipe when even the folks who 'don't want any cake/don't like sweets' start eyeing it to make sure there's some left for them to try, and especially when they ask if they can take a to-go slice back home because they know someone who just HAS to try it. Thank you again for the beautiful, scrumptious, Delicious Design!

I was hoping for a larger variety of flavors and more items available, but the display felt a little limited during my visit. I would have loved to try more of what they have to offer. We got one of everything they had and that ended us up with lots of earl gray flavors admittedly not my favorite. That said, quality definitely won over quantity. Nothing Bundt cakes has appeared at EVERY celebration of ours, between birthdays and anniversaries. so on APRIL 16th we placed an order for UNR's graduation to celebrate the first college graduate in our family. Our pick up time was for 11:15. My daughter went to pick up our order at 12:04 after the graduation ran long, and we wanted to give some additional time to prepare our order as we knew it would be a busy day. By 12:27 she was still texting me that she was IN LINE, for a pickup order we placed a month prior. They should have created a second pick up line for already placed orders, especially since UNR graduation has been set for this date for a year and knew it would be busy. But no, they chose disorganization and didn't value any of their customers and had them waiting for ridiculous amounts of time (over 30 minutes?!?!) . My daughter missed most of her son's graduation lunch because of this wait, breaking her heart as she just wanted to bring his favorite dessert and missed almost the whole lunch because of NOTHING BUNDT CAKES. The employee told the person in front of my daughter that they were out of frosting, and that if they didn't have a flavor they would look to see if "they could steal one from an ahead order" UM. IM SORRY. SO PEOPLE PLACED ORDERS WEEKS AHEAD AND THEN DAY OF THEY WERE LOOKING TO COMPLETE NEW ORDERS WITH ORDERS PEOPLE HAD PLACED BUT HADNT PICKED UP YET?!?!?!? Picking up our placed order took over 40 minutes, while my elderly father was stuck waiting in the car for that entire time. To make up for this? They offered my daughter a free bundlet, only available to be redeemed from that one cursed location (we don't live in state and certainly will NEVER be back to this location even if we were in state again) absolutely ridiculous. This was so stressful that my daughter's Oura ring warned her she was in a high stress environment (to pick up a pre ordered cake! Imagine that!) Nothing Bundt cakes ruined our day and our celebration. I really hope that next year they just close for graduation since they clearly cannot handle it and they should not have people relying on them when they are incompetent in completing orders placed a month ahead. This was beyond disappointing, and I hope that someone from management reaches out to correct this. In the future we will no longer be ordering nothing Bundt cakes, despite our big family ordering them almost monthly for birthdays. IF ANYONE IS ORDERING FOR NEXT YEARS GRADUATION- DONT!!!!!!! Try another place!!!!! Not worth the stress.
