I got the "basic" pedicure (28$ you can get a deluxe for a few more dollars) & received a scrub, wrap & hot stone treatment on top of the usual trim, buff & polish. The paint job also lasted FOREVER. It "grew out" before it ever chipped. The girl that did my pedi was a little too chatty for my liking, but very nice and obviously knows her stuff. The manicure (14$) I got was done by a quieter, although still nice lady. I'm a mother of two little kids and my nails haven't chipped and it's been almost three days... ha, we'll have to wait and see. read more

This is my first time here since the place my wife and I usually go to was unexpectedly closed for the day. The following is how I judge a nail salon: Atmosphere - here they weren't bad. Low/medium smell from the solvents. I've been to some places that I leave high but it wasn't bad. Most people shouldn't be bothered. Chair comfort - massage chair wasn't bad but the hard plastic area for your feet was pretty uncomfortable. No padding what so ever. Nails - here she did a great job. Trimmed, cleaned-up my nails without being too aggressive. Bottom feet cleanup- here she also did great. I find that many salons are too gentle here and I'm left walking out of their salon still with dead skin. Not here. My feet look great. Massage - this is actually my favorite thing about getting pedi's. My wife laughs at me as I practically purr from a great foot massage. Here sadly, despite paying for the deluxe which says massage, massage, massage, I was disappointed. Her technique was fine; she just didn't massage for more than 1-2 minutes. read more

Best value priced nail salon in the area. They have the best Shellac and matching polish selection around! They also recently got new massage chairs. Have tried lots of places in the vicinity. I like it for walk-ins, there is usually a minimum of 10 nail techs working at once so the wait is never too long. It's clean, lots of talented staff. They use a plastic liner on the pedi-tubs and sterilize equipment. They use hot rocks and hot towels with standard pedis, and also have a ton of deluxe pedi variaties as well. $58 for Shellac and Pedicure and you get Free Bath and Body Works full size lotion as a gift. So the price is very reasonable. Many places in the area charge way more and don't do a better job. This place meets all my needs! Parking is the only bad thing. I go on Sundays so I never have an issue, but you may have to walk a couple blocks and get some excercise. Beng, Emily and Megan are my favorite techs, no bad experience with any of the other techs out of the dozens of times I've gone there. read more

Actual review: 3.5 stars A great deal for the dough, great service, wide selection of nail polish in non-lame shades, plus clean facility and instruments and no appointments are necessary. I went for the deluxe pedi (only $5 more) hoping some of that salt and mud would reach my feet...but they didn't. Sigh. Still, it got my circulation going and the citrus oil was soothing. Pedis, for me, are ALL about callous removal. You can keep your complimentary teas, masks, towels, even the back massaging chair. I want someone to go to town on my feet until they've morphed from the cinderblocks I walked in with (I'm EXAGGERATING but you get the idea, right?) to newborn baby's bottoms. I was disappointed that this didn't happen, and now I have pedi remorse. Ah, well. Still, the technician did a spectacular job on my nails, and was very helpful in terms of negotiating all my winter wear from the chair to the drying station. I've never been disappointed by my mani or pedi here. It is a little expensive ($40 for both) but they have specials in the winter and the price drops to $35 if you go Monday thru Wednesday. They're really nice and help fight off the Royal Oak parking enforcement by feeding your meters if you ask. I usually see the youngest lady in the shop or Thi. They don't get TOO adventurous, but they're usually willing to at least try some of the crazy things I want done on my nails. They also do the no-chip mani. I was super skeptical at first, but my OPI no chip mani really did last four weeks. I couldn't stand looking at the same color day in and day out though, I change my polish at least twice a week. It was expensive ($30 just for the manicure, but they have cheaper options), but if you don't like to change your polish as often as I do, then it really is a great thing! Sometimes the sales pitch for extras (shatter mani, no-chip mani, deluxe pedi) is a little bit too much, but a firm "No." usually quells that. read more

This is my favorite nail place in royal oak!! As soon as I walk in I am always greeted warmly by everyone there. You can tell they work very well together and help eachother out. I get my gel nails and pedicure with Michelle and she always does a fabulous job. I love that she always remembers what I like (matching hands and toes). This place is about a 3.5. Pros- The pedicures I've received here are among the best I've had, they are very thorough and detailed cleaning up any issues. Everyone seems friendly enough whenever I've come, some good some ok. They give you a water and flip flops to ensure you don't mess your toes up. I had a toe nail that was broken almost in half and they repaired it using glue and powder (without me asking, and with photo charging me which I thought was really nice) Cons- their color selection is sub par, most of the shades look like they've been around forever. I actually think they may not update the assortment to force you into getting shellac. Also I have concerns about the cleanliness of all equipment. I saw them open a new package tools (which made me excited) but I saw her put the scrubbing tool back in drawer after she used it on me, now I hope she washes it later but I can't be sure. Oh yea they don't let you tip on your credit card which I find strange. They suggest you go across the street for an Atm, like I want to pay a $3 fee because you don't want to....that was a bit odd to me read more

I am a frequent customer and I usually see Kevin, and he's always been great, but while he was on vacation I saw Hannah, who completely butchered my nails two days before my wedding. I asked for acrylic tips and I was told, "that's so bad for your nails", however, she filed my nails right down to the skin so I assumed she was preparing them for the tips -- not the case. She then proceeded to slap on FOUR coats of sloppy shellac and blamed the bubbles and poor finish on my color choice. My nails looked absolutely terrible. When I told her I was unhappy, especially with how short my middle fingers were, she then put tips on those two fingers and those two fingers only. I had to have them completely redone the next day at a different salon to even have them look respectable. There is no possible way I could have gotten married and had photos taken with my nails looking the way they did. I also brought my aunt from out of town in with me and had given her a glowing review of this place prior to our appointment. Her nails were in good shape and she requested a fill, however her manicurist disregarded her request, removed her gel nails, and filed them down short and crooked as well. I've been a customer here somewhat regularly over the past 5 or so years, and although Kevin is great, Hannah completely ruined this nail salon for me and unfortunately I'll never be back. I just can't believe the disparity of skill between my usual manicurist and the one who almost ruined my nails for my wedding. I regret paying for anything. When I went to a different salon to get them fixed, my tech asked if a 7 year old did my nails, they were that bad. read more

This is my second mani/pedi since moving to the Ferndale area a month ago and I am giving it raves. The nail tech really took his time and did an outstanding job, the hot towel and hot stone massages were awesome and the whole thing took twice the amount of time as my previous salon in D.C. On Mon-Wed you can get mani/pedi for $35 so its a good deal too. The salon was busy with quite a few regulars which is a good sign. The place is very, very clean. I have been going to Studio Nails for years to get my nails done but was very disappointed with a recent experience here. About a 3 weeks ago, my regular nail tech at Studio Nails who does an excellent job with my nails went home sick so they had a girl named Hannah do my mani/pedi instead. She was beyond rude to me- she was not friendly at all & seemed irritated that I decided to change my nail color way before it was even time for her to apply the polish. She did not take enough time or care to cut down my cuticles either. Then, when she did my shellac mani, I pointed out a spot on one of my nails that was not polished. She proceeded to snap at me very rudely in front of customers and told me it was my fault! HOW?? If you come here, do NOT let Hannah do your nails. Otherwise, I love this place & will continue going here as long as my regular nail tech continues working here. read more

I'd been faithful to studio nails for years but I won't be going back again. Went with a friend and her tech cut the sole of her foot with a rasper to the point of bleeding and then acted like they were pre-existing sores instead of admitting to fault. My tech drew blood on multiple toes when she was trimming my cuticles and didn't even apologize. She also applied the wrong color to one foot. I had to say "Miss that's the wrong color" five times before she looked up. She also put way too hot of a towel on my leg. Didn't check the temperature first. Too bad because I had always recommended Studio Nails to a friend. read more

Beware of this place. Shady at best. I popped in for a quick polish change-this part was fast and the technician polite. However, at check out it got odd. She said $10 and I whipped out my credit card. Two people on site made a big deal about how they couldn't run a charge for less than $15. Now....I've heard of not being able to add a tip at a salon, but a $15 minimum was certainly new to me. After about a minute of me questioning the practice, I begrudgingly agreed to pay $15 for a $10 service since it was "impossible" to run for less. Imagine my surprise when the tech brought my receipt for a $10 charge. I asked how that was possible and there was lots of backpedaling but no good answer. NIce Area and talented workers. I had Tina she was from Ann Arbor and had moved here recently. I felt as though she had somthing else to do. She seemed as if she was angry. She ended up warming up but that 10 minutes was very uncomfortable. She mixed colors to make a great outcome. This is just a standard shop nothing made it stand out. Absolutely amazing. I've been getting my nails done for about 7 years now. In 2015, I moved out to Oakland County and spent almost a year trying to find a good nail tech. I decided to try Studio nails and little did I know, on my first visit, I was in for a treat. I sat down with Amy, who is the best nail tech I have ever had. Not only is she cool, funny, and social with her clients, she knows her stuff! Very knowledgable and makes sure my nails are perfect every time. If I ever have a question, she has an answer! She is very particular about making sure your nails are done the right away so that they last long and look beautiful. I will never walk in and hope there's a chair open, I will always make an appointment and go to Amy. The facility is clean and everyone is very polite, but Amy is my favorite. The shape, length, and polish application, are all to perfection and always done in a timely manner. I'll never go to another nail tech as long as I live in the area. read more

Honestly it seems the people that gave this place 4 stars are the owner and co worker friends. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE 4 STARS AND BETTER REVIEWS. When I read through the reviews with one and two stars I had to do the same thing as them, go straight home and take the polish off my toes the same night they did them. I never had to do that before after getting my nails toes done. My friend and I went here we got a pedi and shellac polish change. The pedi chair do not have a massager they r outdated. They polished my toes with an Essie polish it look like my 5 year old niece had done my toes. Than they gave me shellac on my hand. The shellac is super uneven and she filed my nails uneven. It's like the shellac on my nails r thicker in certain areas than others. The people that work here have had the place and been doing nails for only 6 months and it shows through their work. I noticed none of them had their nail technician license hanging up I bet they are not even certified. Don't waste your time and money. read more

I got a pedicure. It was very thorough and enjoyable. THe price was right for their deluxe pedi at $38. THe tech did talk to me the whole time and sometime you just want to relax. But other than that I would go back for another pedi. My advice is to go during the week to avoid waiting. read more

I came to Studio nails today for a full set of acrylics and Sam was my nail tech! He was so sweet and was making sure I liked his work throughout the experience. He does amazing work, I will definitely schedule appointments with him in the future. Fair prices for sure! Also an important factor you must consider when going to ANY nail salon is making sure they are sanitary. This place is! You can see the light disinfecting the instruments! I didn't ask about it because it was in a very conspicuous place so I know that they definitely are sanitary. 10/10 recommend. A plus, its downtown so if you need your hair done, or maybe a bite to eat or coffee you can get it all done right there! Side note: when I was done they gave me a complimentary lotion! That has never happened to me where they give you a 100 mL bottle of lotion so this was a very nice touch! Love, love, love this place. HORRIBLE! I have given this place about 5 times to prove me wrong...I don't believe their technicians are licensed. A gentlemen did my nails,shellac was not even painted on my entire nails (missed the whole sides of the nails), length was uneven and shellac had varying thickness to each nail. They also have tons of junk hanging all over their walls (scarves,cell phone cases, etc...),just too much going on. The pedicure I received was okay but the polish was completely horrible. They operate like a well oiled machine. No appointment necessary, but if you have a favorite tech or like to go at a popular time, you may want to call ahead for an appointment. This place really wants your business. They always try to improve their offering and go above and beyond. For example, this is the only nail salon I know of at this price point that has incorporated a hot stone massage into their REGULAR offering and offers a gift if you purchase a deluxe service. For $5 more, you're already getting a longer massage and extra exfoliating scrub, but with the deluxe, you also get your choice of a small gift. Really had high hopes for this place after reading the reviews here. Went in on a Tuesday afternoon to take advantage of their Mon thru Wed special (mani-pedi for $35), and sprang for the extra $5 deluxe treatment. Well, it was nice, but ... For the mani, I just wanted my nails buffed, not polished. She used a buffing wheel on my nails and somehow managed to put a depression/dent in the middle of each nail by either pressing too hard or staying too long in one place on the nail, I don't know which! Massage on feet/legs (hot stone massage felt decadent, I must say) was nice, staff friendly, but shouldn't they be able to buff nails out properly? I went there to get a full set and the guy who did my nails said he was a little slow. I said that was fine because I had about an hour, but not only was he slow he did not know what he was doing. I had to remind him to put the primer on before he started the full set and he just said I know. I dont think he did. but then when it came down to after putting the acyrlic on he was filing my nails if he was filing it with a buffer and I was like no this is where you need the drill Well turns out it's been 3 days and my nails are already lifting they're all out of shape and they just look horrible. it was way over priced and so I would say save your money and go down the street or maybe out of the city to a whole nother place because this place is horrible and its upsetting for how much it had costed. read more
