It's not an over sold or over crowded event, and dogs are welcome, which isn't the case at most beer festivals. There are a decent number of brewers there as well as the usual food trucks and other sponsors. This festival generally is a younger crowd, but as always, everyone is welcome. It's usually a hot day when this event takes place, so make sure to dress accordingly and stay hydrated! I have been to this event at least four times, twice as a participant, and twice pouring beer, and I have a great time every year regardless of what I'm doing there.

It has been a long time since I've been to IPH so it was nice to see other things around it (instead of just being the lone wolf). Large parking lot, but seems to be busier now with new neighbors around the theater. Still have options to take the light rail (Sugar Creek stop) and ride shares. Looks like they also have the neighborhood car-share (if you live fairly close). I love the accessibility of films here as well as community involvement and use for meeting spaces. Overall a definite plus for a city like Charlotte.

We planned to take the light rail, see the show and have dinner. You know make a night of it. At 1201 their system couldn't process my request for 4 tickets.... I tried from my phone.. nothing. I called "no answer". Needless to say this was ALLSTAR weekend in Charlotte, NC and ALL the ticket gone in 10 minutes. This was some bullX. So he was really here to entertain the folk from out of town. No one called me back .... I sent an email asking why even send the email out if you knew the tickets where PRE-SOLD. I remember when this old church caught fire years ago. I think I was in middle school... The story…read moreI heard was that several homeless people lit a fire in the then empty church to stay warm. They lost control of the fire and the church almost burnt to the ground. The empty, hollowed out skeleton of the church sat abandoned for years. Eventually, the McColl Center came along to bring this gorgeous building back to life! Now, it hosts art exhibits created by visiting artists from all over the world. Most recently, I visited Leah Rosenberg's Color for the People exhibit. It is fun, interactive, vibrant, and of course, full of color! I also enjoyed Nelson Morales' photography. The Fall 2017 residency ends this week and while I'm sad to see the latest class go, I'm excited to meet the next batch of artists to bring their gifts to Charlotte! The next time you're uptown and looking for something to do, I encourage you to visit McColl! Admission is free (with a suggested donation of $5) and they're open Tuesday through Saturday. If you're lucky enough to catch an artist working with their door open, you're encouraged to go into their office/studio and say hello. It's a great chance to meet the artist and learn more about their work!

When another family's children sat down in front of him, he woke up, gave them hateful looks, and muttered under his breath. How rude of those kids to wake him up while trying to watch the movie their parents paid for. Naturally, you might expect staff to step in--but don't worry, they were fully aware of the situation and chose to allow it. Even the homeless need their sleep... and what better place to catch some Zzz's than a crowded movie theater? All of this made for a pretty uncomfortable and poorly managed experience. But hey, if that's your idea of a movie night, you'll feel right at home here.
