So yesterday after I had put on a hair mask for three hours, I dried and styled my hair to find it dry, damaged, and completely hideous. Before I broke down into a 2007 Britney Spears moment and shaved it all off, I took a deep breath and made an appointment with Studio Be for a rare open Saturday slot the next day. I used to go to the Fort Collins North Studio Be from 2014-2015 and I absolutely loved how my hair looked when I was getting regular haircuts there. Living in Denver now, I can't go up there as often so I was thrilled to see the Boulder studio have openings! I booked with Linnea D for a cut. The studio is very small but very nice and followed the professional and chic Be branding. The front desk person was very nice and accommodating and did not judge me for eating many chocolates. I showed Linnea Pinterest photos of what I what looking for (inverted long bob) and she was very honest with me and told me that the thickness and texture of my hair would require me to constantly style that kind of cut lest it look like a puffy triangle. I instead deferred to her judgement where she cut a few inches off my hair and lightly layered it. She also suggested the Top Coat, a $30 temporary color to turn my dull, matte dyed blonde ombre into a rich brown. It worked wonders, my hair is incredibly shiny, dimensional, and the way she cut it made it look incredibly healthy and gloriously yet effortlessly styled. Linnea is a lovely and amazing stylist who took a lot of time to explain to me the differences between what I thought I wanted and how my hair would react to a cut. She explained everything she was doing, had a soft touch with my hair, and checked in with me several times to make sure she was fulfilling what I wanted. She is such a sweet and kind person as well and I really enjoyed telling her about my life and learning about hers. (Both of our moms are hair stylists!!) I honestly can't recommend her enough and I'm so shocked that she hasn't been doing this for 10 years already with the skill she has. My experience with Studio Be was unpleasant. The first time I went in, the girl who "highlighted" my hair completely screwed it up. The highlights she gave me were super chunky and it was the color of Kraft mac & cheese. I called to get it fixed, and they gave me another appointment with the same girl. Not only was this second appointment awkward, but she messed up my hair again. This time, she proceeded to make my entire head super blonde and not the color I wanted. Both appointments took 3 hours+ and I've had so much hair loss due to it. Do not go here!!!!! read more

I moved to Boulder a couple years ago and was looking for a place to get a good men's cut. I didn't want to go to a big haircut chain business as they are typically more fast than good, and most of the high-end barbershops were out of the price range I was looking for. Enter Studio Be Salon. If you're a person who cares about quality when you get your hair taken care of then this is the place for you. Everyone who works here is friendly and takes pride in their work including the person at the front desk (shout-out to Linnea who is now a stylist. Glad you'll still be around!) Kelsey is my stylist and she always takes great care of me. She works with me if I want to try something a little bit different and Kelsey makes me look great! I've since moved from Boulder but I still go a little out of my way to go to Studio Be in Boulder because my day is always better after a visit. You all have a color bar. I've never been as happy with any salon as I have with Studio Be! On my first visit, I was lucky to get in with Gianna who is an absolute hair mastermind - both with color and cut. You can literally feel the passion she has for creating the best freaking hair, and she was SO enthusiastic about the vision that I had. I wanted to transition my super blonde hair to have a darker more dimensional feel. I literally walked out looking like the picture that I had showed her. Fast forward 2 months, I just accepted an offer for a great new job and felt like I needed to get in for a fresh color, NOW. (ladies, you know what I mean). I had another appointment set with Gianna, but not for another 3 weeks due to my poor planning and her packed schedule. Studio Be has a very collaborative stylist environment, so I decided to give another stylist a try. I ended up with an appointment with Katherine and I'm super pleased with the way my hair came out. Was happy with the products and styling, and pleased with how quickly I could get in for a big hair makeover. On the downside, I asked for a full balayage and received some partial highlights. I asked for blonde and walked out just as brunette as I came in. She seemed inexperienced with color and unconfident that she could lighten my hair effectively. I would have gone back to complain, however the music here is really awful, the branding tacky, and the salon cold, so no thank you. I will admit I am intimidated by hair salons just because I haven't had the best experiences in the past. I made an appointment with Kelsey for a dye and cut and I was very excited. I walked in and was offered water immediately which was super awesome. Kelsey was such a sweet person, she explained everything thoroughly to me and actually was interested in our conversation. I've had hairstylists not really want to talk to me which can make the experience uncomfortable. But Kelsey was the total opposite. We ended up having a really great conversation. I came to the Boulder location for the first time in September. The haircut was good, though my stylist did not check in with me throughout the appointment about the specifics of my experience (e.g. length of layers, how it should be styled, if I wanted a blow out, etc.) and I was a little disappointed at the level of service in this way, but I thought the haircut was fine so I didn't feel there was anything for me to say. At the end of the appointment the receptionist asked if I wanted to schedule a "maintenance appointment" in 12 weeks. Hearing maintenance appointment made me think this would essentially be a check-up, so I made sure to ask if this appointment would cost extra. The receptionist assured me that no, the cost of this maintenance appointment was included with my first haircut and that there would be no charge for it. She said people normally schedule their maintenance appointments for 10-12 weeks out. I came in today and had a similar experience with the stylist as the first appointment. After, the receptionist gave me the total cost for what would be a full haircut appointment. I told her the previous receptionist told me this would be a maintenance appointment and that she told me it would be free. Of course, I still paid for the service and gave a nice tip to the stylist. I was, however, extremely disappointed that the receptionist this time was not very understanding or apologetic about the false information I had been given by the receptionist at my previous appointment. I felt like I had been tricked into buying another haircut when I had been told it would be free, come to find out that was not the case at all. I was very disappointed with this major miscommunication and do not have a strong desire to return to Studio Be. read more

This place is amazing! They were so kind and even offered beverages while you get your hair done. Emi did my hair and I LOVE the way it came out! I would recommend her to anyone! She talked me through what she was going to do before doing it and we made sure we were on the same page with what the color would be. When it came time to rinse the color out and tone it, they bring you into a wash room with spa music playing and the lights are low. It is so relaxing and soothing. Since my previous salon is now a bit far away, I decided to try one in Boulder. Upon recommendation, I came here and saw Gianna. I felt really welcomed, everyone was so friendly, and I was well taken care of. However, at the end of the appointment my hair didn't seem as blonde as I was hoping, but I assumed it would seem lighter in the sunlight. After a couple days, a few washings, and friends not noticing as much of a difference, I knew my initial feeling was right. I decided to call them back and explain the situation to see what we could do. They were super accommodating and really wanted me to love my hair. They squeezed me in a few days later and it was a wonderful experience. I wasn't sure if they'd be upset with me or something, but everyone was still so friendly and just wanted to see me happy. Gianna was able to do a bit more to get it to a brighter blonde in the balayage-esque way I was hoping for. And it looks beautiful. I really appreciate that they care about their customers and want to make sure you're happy with your hair. Customer service is really important and they nailed it. Caitlyn made me feel comfortable and used a foil technique that brought life back into my hair while keeping it looking natural. You are offered a number of services all with mini upgrades like 10 minutes in heaven scalp massage, which is well worth the price! I have been seeing Shayna at the Boulder location. I look forward to visiting her every month as I have a short pixie cut. Shayna is so talented in short cuts that I get compliments on my hair multiple times a week. In fact, my husband gets a kick out of how many times women ask about my hair! Additionally, the color and styling products are something of luxury. They use an award winning hair care line called Oribe. I have loved every product I've used so far. In visiting with Shayna, she shared that Studio Be is focused on continued education and invests in their stylists because they are setting the bar for what salons should be. I couldn't agree more! She had glowing things to say about the ownership. In my past experiences at other salons it always seems like there is a battle between stylist and the salon owners. I can definitely tell Studio Be is different, where you find mutual respect between the two. One of the most lovely parts of visiting is having the opportunity to enjoy the "quiet room" during wash. I tried a number of different salons in the area before SalonBe on Pearl opened up. I'm so thankful that SalonBe opened up because they are the best salon I've been to for several reasons. They have the most bubbly, friendly front desk staff that can turn your frown upside down. Their stylists are easy to talk to and talented. I see Gianna and she does a killer job on my short haircut. Whenever you get a haircut, they get you a drink, which is super nice, especially when they have beer and wine. Their hair washing area is so peaceful and relaxing and then my haircut is always excellent and Gianna always makes sure I am happy before I leave. I'm such a fan I even talked my husband into checking it out and now he is a regular too. I highly recommend SalonBe for a pampering and stylish haircut experience. It's ok. I went here for the free service (ad on Facebook) and opted for a blowout since I didn't need a haircut and color my hair on my own at home. I was quickly talked into getting a keratin treatment - which I'm pretty sure I needed anyway with as dry as my hair is. The stylist was a very good salesperson - she does get props for that. The salon is very modern and there row of chairs just isn't my preference when it comes to a salon. It wasn't busy so it's not like I was crammed into a bunch of people. It may have bugged me if it was crowded. That's more of a personal preference though. The wash experience wasn't as heavenly as it seemed on their website. She did massage my scalp for a couple mins, which was nice. The one thing I was most put off by is the fact that you have to store your credit card info when using this salon. I was able to talk the receptionist out of giving it for my initial appt (especially since she was pretty obviously reading from a script that just annoyed me that gave 10 reasons for this practice then concluded with "but since your service is free, you wouldn't be charged 50% if you skip the appt bc there's nothing to charge"....then insisted I provide a cc number). She said that it may be able to be waived 1-2 times but long term they have to store the number. I'm sorry. With as much fraud happening these days, I don't store my cc number anywhere I can avoid it (so far this includes everywhere except iTunes). In conclusion, the pushy sales style here is a turn off and I won't return. I was glad to try it out, even if my free service didn't end up being just that. I would have been more likely to return if not pushed into the paid treatment, although again I'm not complaining bc my hair needed it anyway and this just sped up when I got it done. read more

First, Paul Mitchell products are addictive and amazing. They really work to maintain your color and style- keeping my dry Colorado hair healthy. Speaking of color- these professionals are experts. I have been coming here for about 6 months now, which is awesome because I am extremely picky about my hair and usually I don't last this long at a hair salon. I was just in two days ago and saw Nikki for a hair cut. I was getting a drastic new hair cut because the time before I didn't really like the cut that I received. I told Nikki that the last time my bangs were cut too heavy and I had asked for very little trimming on my layers and she had then proceeded to add more layers to my hair. nikki listened to what I wanted and executed it very nicely. I could tell she was a bit timid to cut so much hair off, but she did great. The only thing I would suggest for her is to use less product in the hair. She had put in a root booster and a boosting powder which made it so I couldn't run my hands through my hair. I went home and washed it again. Also, the front desk girl is amazing and super sweet. This was hands down: THE WORST HAIRCUT I HAVE EVER RECEIVED by stylist "Nicki". I really didn't want to spend the effort in leaving a review at all, but with every passing day with my hair looking like shit, I am growing more and more despondent. My hair was my thing and now it's ruined. It will take most likely 6 months before my hair looks decent again. I had super long, ribcage length, thick hair with long side swept bangs. I just needed a trim because I had a job interview, and my wonderful regular stylist was booked for weeks. She asked me if I wanted to keep the length, and I said YES as much as possible. To me this meant a trim/one inch/tiny amount of hair, maybe I should have been more adamant but she seemed very confident. She cut at least four inches or more. My hair now falls to my heart-level and I can barely make a bun; I used to wind my hair around four times to make a bun. She snipped at my bangs once, and I saw her face grimace. She then said "I am a wussy with bangs so I don't like to do much to them." I can see why. The part she snipped is so short it sticks up; the rest is still long and untouched. My hair is totally uneven, and she ruined the existing layers. It now lays like a pyramid, and feels more frizzy and rough. This is the shortest my hair has been in years, and by far the worst it has ever looked. I felt extremely awkward complaining at the time, especially since they were also very aggressively trying to sell me products. I AM SO UNHAPPY. read more
