came here to watch rocky horror on broadway last week amazing decoration everywhere ! amazing show! not so friendly staff and the bathroom situation was NOT IT (waited on line after the show ended for about 10 minutes and right before it was my turn they turned me away stating that they're closing this bathroom specifically and told me to go to the one in the front of the theatre... like hello? especially after someone had sneaked in line before me and the staff saw it happen and let it slide. read more

Amazing venue with such a beautiful and unique history! The theatre did a fantastic job decorating the space for the Rocky Horror show. The lobby had a shrine for Tim Curry along with tin foil and green lighting. The sold out sign over box office even felt like an homage to the play. As you enter the theatre, they had bars along back wall, more green lighting and mannequins posed. Restrooms were near front lobby and on 2nd level. I ordered the tickets on broadway website, tickets are sent 24 hrs prior to show. We picked seats in orchestra B-3rd row from the front of stage. We had such a fantastic view of the stage and cast. The sound and lighting were incredible. The architecture of the theatre was beautiful to admire. read more

Cool ambiance for the theater. Definitely older but the bathroom was larger than other theaters which was nice and the line moved at a decent pace. Saw rocky horror show which was definitely not a family friendly or normal broadway show but I did enjoy it. Overall staff was great as well. read more

Saw The Rocky Horror Show here. It's amazing to be able to take in a show at historic studio 54. The theater has a gorgeously lit entrance area where you stand in line until they let you in. I had to go through a security check before entering. It was quick and easy. You can bring your own water. There are bathrooms on the lower and upper level. You could feel the energy of what this space used to hold! Keep an eye out for the original disco ball and the Moon and Spoon. The theatre is pretty nice, but there are many steps, so be mindful of that for mobility. We saw The Rocky Horror Show, and it was amazing! (Just don't be a jerk with the callouts; the delightful Luke Evans eventually had to stop at the beginning of "Don't Dream It, Be It" and restart after cheekily reminding the audience that they were not at a midnight showing at their respective small town production!) The space is fairly intimate, but the layout does prevent more interactivity from the actors. However, the sound quality was pretty good and the performers seemed comfortable with the theatre. read more

I came here today to watch the rocky horror show, finally! The show itself was a high 7.5/10, very good and camp. The set designs were impeccable and the costumes/lack thereof were top tier. Andrew Durand and Stephanie Hsu bought the energy for sure. Okay, now for the seating. The incline between rows K & L of orchestra were almost nonexistent. For the whole act 2, I sat behind a woman who covered my entire view. I tried to move side to side & up to down but my view of the stage was still obstructed. I didn't ask for a booster seat because act 1 was unobstructed. Besides the seating, everything else was great. read more

I'm not intimately familiar with all of the Broadway theaters but I sense this once nightlife hub has seen better days. Debuted in the early 1900's as an opera house, Studio 54 has mostly been a theatre accept when it's was a splashy and notorious night club in the late 70's and early 80's. Now it's a dusty old affair that seats about 1000. None of these theaters are comfy and all are old and stinky but mostly they serve as a venue for great acting if you are lucky. Two levels of seating and remnants of the old Studio 54 days make this a fun venue in light of the aging infrastructure. Bar downstairs and bathrooms on two levels. Located off 55th and Broadway. I'd come back if the show is good. read more

I had the pleasure of visiting the legendary Studio 54 Theater, in order to enjoy A Wonderful World, the Louis Armstrong Musical. The theater is gorgeous and the sound system is clear and crisp. The staff members go above and beyond to keep everyone moving through security, guiding theater goers to their seats, and directing many to restrooms. The musical was VERY ENJOYABLE and educational. I learned a lot about Louis Armstrong, the history of that era, and the singing/dancing was entertaining. James Monroe Iglehart put on an award winning performance, as well as the supporting cast. The singing was exceptional and left me in awe. I highly recommend attending this musical. However, make sure you purchase your tickets before their final performance, which will be on Sunday, February 23, 2025. read more

Jazz is the life....I don't know why when I listen to jazz my mind goes to Louis Armstrong tune....seeing "A Wonderful World" - The Louis Armstrong Musical was wow... I saw this fantastic musical on a Friday evening at Studio 54 Theater and I sat in row MM - seat 206 - way in the back of the theater and I honestly felt like I had the best seat in the theater... Thinking it doesn't matter where you sit in the theater - you will have an excellent view of the stage..the theater space is personal... There are two bars with a nice drink selection and basic snacks you can nibble on... Everyone working there that crossed my paths were sincerely polite and helpful. Definitely recommend seeing this show if you are a jazz fan. read more

Enjoyed Louis Armstrong 's wonderful life biopic musical here. Friendly staff and with a very cozy feel. Orchestra seating (center, row G) gave a full and close view of the stage with very good experience. The theatre itself looks vintage upon entrance but the props, sound, and the overall production quality was really good. Parking lot immediately next to the theatre is convenient and inexpensive but please plan for at least an hour wait to get the car back; the end-of-the-show spike of patrons overwhelms the system. The play itself was superb with amazing vocal ranges, storyline, well-spotted humor, and awesome band. read more

They are currently showing Dan O'Bannon's The Rocky Horror picture show. The entire evening was amazing, from the venue, to the cast, costumes, lighting & especially the musicians. Not a bad theater but needs some love. I was quite comfortable but I can see how if you are over 5' tall there is not a lot of leg room. I think that this was my first time to this theater. Acoustics were excellent, we were far left and able to see all the stage activities with ease Front Mezz CC 5&7. These were RUSH seats, so thrilled that they were reasonably priced and in a fine location. Agree with others who appreciate the bathrooms near the entrance, may as well get this over with and not have to return again. As to the theater, the steps in the mezzanine are weirdly scary. I think I have average depth perception, but the steps down seemed steeper than usual and I felt like I needed to grab on to the rails and a light column thing so I wouldn't fall. This is also the first theater where they stopped selling concessions around 10 mins before the show. It could be a new policy for Oedipus, but there were people in the theater talking about how they couldn't get water or buy something, and the show didn't start on time, either. This is more a review of A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical than Studio 54 although I will say that the theatre is absolutely stunning. It looks like such a classic theatre as there are beautiful engravings and curtain drapping on the inside. I also love that the had a bathroom right near the entrance. I think this was my first time at a theatre bathroom where there was no line for then women but a long line for the men. The Louis Armstrong Musical is incredibly underrated. When I went, only around 60-70% of the seats were filled. The musical walks through Armstrong's life and the women who were in it, he had 4 wives. Here are some of my favorite parts of the show: The ensemble is insanely talented. I love how they were able to perform so many different styles of dance, including tap and boogie. I didn't know much about Armstrong before watching this musical, and it was fun to realize how many songs I inadvertently knew from him. - The set was gorgeous with the sweeping staircase. - I love that there was quite a bit of audience interaction as he encouraged the audience to sing at various parts of the show. Overall, a fantastic musical that I would highly recommend everyone to go watch. My one small complaint was that the seats were quite uncomfortable and my tailbone hurt by the end of it. read more

Even though I really enjoyed the performance (Louis Armstrong), the leg space at this place is a joke... makes economy flights seem like first class in comparison. I'm 6"2 and could not fit my legs in the space in front. Fortunately the theater was fairly empty so I could place them diagonally, but even that became uncomfortable after a while. I'd say that anyone 6" or over is going to suffer. I was in the Mezzanine level... not sure if the pricier seats have more leg room. read more

A person next to me brought binoculars which another patron and I noted was a smart idea. Cool to know that it used to be a dance club many years ago! A patron told me of how he used to party there. This theater still continues to deliver amazing shows in such an iconic setting! I saw Caroline or Change last night and it was a fabulous show. The workers were so friendly and kind, while still making sure to enforce the wearing of masks. We felt very safe and really enjoyed the show! Just be aware that there are no concessions at this theater right now. I think it is due to COVID? But I was a little surprised that you couldn't get drinks or even water. However, I understand that they want to have people keep their masks on. I look forward to coming back to this theater again and again! read more

Won rush lottery for an 8pm Saturday show of The Minutes. Got incredibly amazing seats in the middle of orchestra--H1 and H3 just for $39 with all the fees! Highly recommend purchasing the rush tickets on Txts app. The Minutes was hilarious, witty, and thought provoking. One of those shows where you have to pay attention to the repartee between characters, so you fully immerse yourself in the plot. The ending will be such a delicious, scandalizing surprise! Bring a jacket--the theater gets cold after the intermission. read more

DONT BUY TICKETS FROM ROUNDABOUT THEATERS I have called the box office of studio 54 to change my tickets since Dec 26th was a snow strom and i was worried that there will not be a way to arrive at the theater. the lady who answered the phone was very pelsant and said that the theater has a "past date" policy through which if you can call the day of the perofmance and tickets are "past date" eligiable she would chnage them to tickets of the same day. So we decided not to take our chances with the snow and staied home. the next day at the time she idicated i called the box office. after waiting on line for 30 minutes listening to muzak she informed me that despite the fact that there are close to 100 unsold tickets 6 hours before the show the box office "has decided" that they will not honor my tickets for that day and i should keep on calling everyday, maybe on monday they will. Bascialy I wasted an hour on what was a simple lie of the prosn who answered the phone, because when i originaly called she did not mention a box office decsion - just whether the tickets were avilable or not and they were avilable. read more

I purchased a ticket for today's performance Izzy at $218. Just before the curtain went up, a woman sat next to me with a dog on her lap. as the curtain had just gone up I could not change seats without disturbing the other theatergoers and the actress on stage. Afterwards, I explained to the management what had happened and showed them how my eyes were swollen almost shut from my allergic reaction to the dog. I was offered no compensation. Theaters need to advise people purchase tickets that there is a possibility you will be seated next to a dog. read more

During my misspent youth I had occasion to dance the night away at Studio 54 a few times. That seems like a lifetime ago now, and the former nightclub has since been transformed into a proper theater. The venue is intimate with lovely decor but seats are smallish, as is the case with many NYC theaters. I last saw "Latin History for Morons" by John Leguizamo there and really enjoyed it. As a patron of the Roundabout Theater Club (whose plays are shown at Studio 54) I jumped at the chance to make a contribution towards renovating the theater and the old disco ball. I chose to immortalize my dogs Frodo and Sam, whose names are now emblazoned on one of the bricks in the lobby wall. The Play: The Lifespan if A Fact w/Daniel Radcliffe About: A demanding Editor (Cherry Jones), A determined young Fact Checker (Daniel Radcliffe), and Author (Bobby Carnevale) working on an "essay" that is to be published. It was funny, relatable, and very relevant to the modern world. Especially as a young professional, I can empathize and identify with Daniel Radcliffe's character The transitions between scenes were great. The 3 person cast was amazing! Love the sets. Studio 54 was a very intimate little theatre. It was very easy to find our seats. People are right that it isn't really staggering. I found myself swaying back and forth depending on the person in front of me. However, the view was great besides that. read more

I was so excited to watch The lifespan of a fact that I went in a day earlier and asked for my tix at the box office. The nice young lady told me that my ticket was for next day. This cost me a lot of sad retail therapy at Underground market nearby. Anyway, the box office lady, all the staff were extremely nice. It was very easy to find my seat. The restrooms were neat(ish). The theater is old, so there's no leg space at all(rear mezzanine seat). I'm 5'3 and even I wasn't okay, so I scouted for people taller than me and amused myself till showtime. The Ceiling was very pretty, rather pleased with my photos. The lifespan of a fact play was brilliant, each actor was immensely talented. Very relevant to the current Facebook news times, so I bought the book for $20. My dumbass almost left the theater without meeting Radcliffe, but then by some divine intervention I decided to walk back in and follow the crowd to the rear exit. Sure enough it was packed. Daniel was so down-to-earth and chatted quite a bit, took a lot of selfies and signed autographs generously. What a guy! Some people brought their platform 9 3/4 pics and got them autographed and some came in Gryffindor gear. I am not saying it's dumb but probably not wise to push the Harry Potter agenda when Daniel is doing other dank actor things like THIS play!!! Studio 54 is a small, semi-hidden theatre, that was the venue for John Leguizamo's "Latin History For Morons" I walked up, was immediately greeted by the two doorman who inquired whether I was picking up tickets or jointing the line awaiting entry to the theatre. As I was picking up, I was instructed where to go, and that I would need to return and wait on the line. Everyone was courteous in this process. We waited about 3 minutes and then were allowed in. We headed to our seats and to my surprise, my legs wouldn't fit in the seat! Yes, I'm about 6"4 and have very long legs... I made my way down to an usher, who gave me the name of someone else who could assist me. She was very understanding of my situation and changes me a few rows ahead, and gave me an aisle seat! Thanks so much, Connie! As I previously mentioned, the theatre is small, so basically you'll be able to see anywhere you are in the house. Also, I thought this was perfect for the type of show he was putting on. I had a wonderful experience here; the sole negative was the wait at the bar, and some of prices of the snacks, namely, the pretzels. Maybe they should not charge $4 for a .50 can't bag if pretzels and have more than one bartender... Thanks John and Studio 54 for a great experience. read more

Pretty good spot to see a show, with lots of history, still showing in some of the layout and furniture. A bit dated, but you gotta respect its heritage. I just went to see John Leguizamo's "Latin History For Morons", a one-man act that was just ok. I would definitely go back to see more plays, as the theatre feels rather intimate. read more
