Studio 514 deserves all 5 stars. I found this place through Yelp and my experiences there couldn't be better. First off, Mike is outstanding --- friendly, laid-back, and very skilled. He's got a ton of experience and has done a great job every time. There is not a "rush-to-the-next-customer" mentality, nor attempts to push unwanted products. Mike cuts a great style, takes his time and offers advice if you ask for it. The price is extremely reasonable --- coupled with excellent service that's a win-win! read more

This place was recommended to me by a friend and I am so glad I listened! Such a great, eclectic and hip vibe indoors and the stylists are service driven and accommodating which helped me to relax and enjoy my visit. The moment i arrived I was greeted with a cup of coffee. Taylor was my stylist and she is clearly knowledgeable, creative, calm, detail-driven and overall great at what she does! She did a fantastic job listening to what I wanted while also offering great recommendations that would significantly cut down on the amount of maintenance I would need to do to my hair- oh do i love less work! I got my first hombre hair color and I love it! My cut was equally awesome with new, healthy layers that she recommended would shape my face better and she was right. Heidi cut and colored my hair and it looks fantastic. I bought a conditioning treatment and it works wonders, is organic and smells amazing. See Nicole here she is great! She has helped me with my hair that was getting really dry and crazy from going gray, and she gave me a great cut that really helped the transition. She also did an amazing job on my daughter and my son's hair. I've had mixed luck with getting him a good cut and Nicole did a great job. I highly recommend! read more

So I don't want to bash out on the stylist that did my hair and state her name but sadly I had a horrible experience. At the moment in the salon, I couldn't tell if I liked my ombré/bayalage or not since she gave me the tightest curls ever. But the next day as I was examining it and so was my sister, I ended up crying from how horrible my hair was. I'm sure the stylist is good at other things but bayalage is definitely not one of them. Some of my roots got bleached somehow and literally were the shade white. My hair was super brassy and the blending was horrible!!! She kept saying how soft my hair felt afterwards and that their products are all organic, but honestly my hair was super dry. I have had a bayalage before and it has never felt like this ever!!! I would have called the salon but honestly I don't want to get it fixed by her or anyone else and have more bleach applied to it, since the blending was done horrible. I have had an experience like this before where I did go back and got it "fixed" but it ended up worse. Sadly I had to go to Sally's and re-dye my hair back to what it was in the beginning. Never ever returning back to her at least. She did a great job with my hair cut though. read more

Taylor cut my husband's hair yesterday and it's the best haircut he has ever had! My husband has thick curly hair and in the past has spent a fortune on haircuts with other stylist hoping to get a decent cut but the cuts don't last more than a week before it loses it's shape. I can tell the cut Taylor did is top notch. Taylor is young, enthusiastic and really knows what she is doing. When talking to her I learned she spends a lot of time in her off hours educating herself more on the latest techniques. This girl is an up and coming star! read more

By early July my roots were showing and I was desperate! Went on yelp and found M. T. She could work me in and did a beautiful job with my color and cut. Laura first and foremost is a expert in her craft, cutting men's hair. walked in just to get some LAYRITE pomade, and after a little chatting the receptionist told me i should meet Laura. I was an avid LEFTY'S barbershop only kinda guy. You know the old "mens only kinda barber club", but Laura blew me away with the best haircut i have ever gotten. she should give seminars on classic style. got a 7 towel straight shave from her and leme tell ya a skilled womens touch and razor on your neck is better than a mans period. It seems every bar i go to people are always asking me ,"hey who does your hair," plus my fiancee is fanatical about my cut, in fact she now goes and get her hair done from one of the stylists. all and all if you want a real highly trained barber giving you the best haircut of your life chatting about cars motorcycles and tattoos this is your place read more

LOVE Studio 514, such a cool hidden gem! Found out about these guys on Yelp, despite having lived in Oceanside my entire life. I needed get a touch-up on some color and highlights and Andra rocked it out. I've been a few more times since my initial color and Andra continues to leave me with great hair. The space is super cool too. Awesome vintage furniture and records around the salon, good music, and they use the best hair products...lots of animal-friendly and organic hair care lines! She did a great job at keeping the length since I did not want to go any shorter. I noticed this salon had amazing reviews and allowed you to book online. I booked online for an appt with Mike. When I arrived I was informed Christine specializes in hair color for women and that she could take me instead. She did an amazing color correction and cut. She was sweet, talented and sooo much fun! It's amazing to find a hairdresser who treats it as an art and really knows what she is doing. I think I've found a salon to call home. Today, I had an appointment with Christine and left nothing but satisfied. My appointment was for 5pm and I called around 2 and asked if she could take me earlier and at first she couldn't, but made arrangements to see me at 3:30. When I got there, since it was my first visit with her, she asked about the history of my hair; ie: what it's been through, how many colors, bleaches, etc. I showed her a picture of what I had in mind and she offered suggestions based on my face shape and asked what my "end goal" is, since I told her I'm planning on growing my hair. When I sat down for the wash, she explained how the shampoo/conditioner she was using will help my hair and she gave me a scalp massage. BEST shampoo I have ever had. Found this place because they sell Kevin Murphy products, then got a blow out from Amanda. Very impressed with her and the whole salon. She was very very knowledgeable on the products and what would work well with my hair type etc. I felt she went the extra mile with my blow out and really gave me a great style. I recently moved to Carlsbad from NorCal and it's been hard trusting my hair with just anyone. I was recommended my a coworker to see Alexis at the studio. I met her for a consult and told her what my wants were. I scheduled an appt for that same week and was expecting my bayalage to take all day because my hair is to my butt and SUPER thick. I asked Alexis to thin my hair as MUCH as she could because I was tired of the weight. She cut my hair exactly how I wanted and to a healthy length! My bayalage turned out so great and it was less work than I initially thought. Kudos to Alexis! My 11 year old was with me the entire time and Alexis made her feel like she was at home so she didn't become antsy. She was so welcoming and that speaks wonders about her. I am Asian, so my hair is naturally almost black (espresso brown, I like to call it) but I like my hair to be anywhere from medium/light brown to blond. Heidi always manages to get my hair to those really light colors, without charging as much as other salons for such extensive work, and without any damage (my hair is still down to my waist at the moment, and I have been bleaching and dying my hair for several years now). If I take in a Beyonce picture and ask her to make my hair look just like hers, she is always able to mimic the color and look perfectly. The results are a rich, natural appearing, multidimensional color. Highly recommend her! The salon is also nice, quite a few Kevin Murphy and Prive products, which people swear by, and the dyes they use are all top shelf. read more
