Let me start by saying, I love my hair! Shena is my girl! She is absolutely the best stylist there is! She is amazing. She always creates exactly the look I want. It's so hard to find a stylist that you can trust your hair with but I'm so glad I found Shena! I have pretty dark hair naturally and Shena did a beautiful work on my hair. She's super realistic and careful. She assesses your hair situation and makes sure to take that into account whenever lightening the hair. My hair isn't damaged at all thanks to how careful Shena was! I also haven't even had any breakage since getting my hair done! 042 / 100 - 2018 YELP 100 CHALLENGE. I've been wanting to get my hair cut for a few months now (life changing events do that to you!), but never really had the time to do it until recently. My old stylist is located downtown and the trek is, sadly, too much to handle for me haha. Because of the distance, I decided to look around and see if I could find a stylist nearby. After Yelping around a bit, I stumbled across Shena/Fringe Appeal. I loved all of the cuts and colors in her photos and thought that I would give her a shot. I am SO glad that I did! Located in the plaza with Dollar Tree, Walgreens, etc. there is tons of ample parking. I got here 15min or so early and was able to snag a great spot pretty quickly! Her little salon is located within a bigger salon (Sola Salon) and a few days before our appointment, Shena sent me a quick text with directions on how to find her little suite. It definitely helped a ton the day of! The interior of her salon is very cute and very chic (seriously, decorate my apartment please!), well lit, and incredibly clean. Shena's incredibly friendly, courteous, and funny. She was all smiles and laughter throughout our appointment and she made it SO easy to just kick back and relax. We went over what I was looking for (length-wise, etc.) and she went into incredible detail over what she would be doing, how she would be cutting my hair, warning me ahead of time that she uses scissors AND a razor, and so forth. Tbh I didn't really mind because I trusted her to begin with/wasn't that nervous about the haircut, but for anyone who might be nervous, I think Shena going over those things would help immensely. We did a wash, she started to trim, we chatted about each other's lives, and it was really fun and relaxing. She went over each step in how she was styling my hair, showed me the products, and answered any questions that I might have had. It was really sweet of her. The haircut took about an hour and fifteen or so, but Shena was very particular and thorough as she cut and styled my hair. The time breezed by pretty quickly! When I got to see the final reveal, I was in LOVE. Shena captured exactly what I wanted exactly the way I had envisioned it. I'm much more of a low-key, roll-out-of-bed-and-just-deal-with-it type of girl, but she made my hair look SO STINKIN' GOOD. I don't know if I'll ever be able to recreate Shena's styling magic haha. I asked her to send me a text with a list of the items she used and purchased some texturizing spray from her. I haven't had the chance to use it yet, but I'm planning to this week! Practice makes perfect, right? Hopefully I don't let her down. Depending on my time and budget, I'm hoping to get my hair colored sometime soon and I'm definitely going to come to Shena for this. Very happy and satisfied with my cut (I've gotten so many compliments already!) and will definitely be coming back again! read more

I had been going to the same hair stylist for years. She did good but I was never in love with how my hair turned out, it was just something basic. So i decided it was time to search around for someone new and that's when I came across Shena/Fringe Appeal on yelp. Right away, I loved her style, not only from all her clients pictures, but the pictures of her cute welcoming studio. My first appointment was back in July and now I visit her every 6-8 weeks. She does an amazing job. She's very meticulous and makes sure to stop every part of the way to ensure you love what she's doing. She is so sweet and can carry on a conversation with you the entire 3 or so hours you are with her. I also love all the Verb products she sells. I been having my hair done by Shena for many years and she never once failed on doing my hair colors that I would change here and there. There was this one time where I did go somewhere else in San Marcos and they ruined it by giving me dark ugly purple/ gray hair when I asked for platinum hair, they couldn't even come close to a blonde color, so Sheena had to fix my hair which took many hours but it came out beautiful and blonde. I first met Shena at another salon. So glad she's got her own salon now. The place is open, bright, chic, and not to mention the ever so talented salon owner. Shena has only trimmed my bangs so far as I'm currently trying to grow my hair, but I can't wait to have her cut and perhaps color it in the near future. Her website is easy to navigate if you ever need to make an appointment, and she always responds promptly if there's any schedule conflicts and does her best to find a time that will work for you. She always greets you with the warmest smiles and will answer any questions you may have regarding your hair. I can't say it enough how AMAZING Shena is!!! I went in wanting a darker base color with caramel highlights, she was extremely thorough in telling me how each color would fade with my natural hair -definitely what I needed! I think it is soooo important that she can be honest with her clients and tell them exactly what it will look like after natural fading instead of just being all okay, this is what you want let's do it. She was so patient and we went through pictures together and I explained what I liked about the hair in each picture. We were able to find a color combination and she did her thing. At the end of the appointment when I saw my hair I was BLOWN AWAY! It looked GORGEOUS!!! She's very professional and knowledgeable about her work and my hair had hardly faded when I went to my touch up appointment. I'm sure I asked a million questions about her recommendations on products and hair care in general but she answered everyone of them thoroughly! She truly cares about your hair and it doesn't stop with the way it looks, she gives you advice on how to keep it as healthy as possible also. She's so easy to talk to and maybe one of the nicest people I've met. My second appointment was just as great as my first. We touched up the regrowth and color and did a trim. I trust her 100% with my hair and she continues to keep it looking healthy and so so pretty - I will never let anyone else touch my hair. My favorite escape! Shena has been doing my hair for about 7 months now and she was the best decision ever! I have had the same hair dresser since I was 12 and when I moved to California 4 years ago I had the hardest time finding a hair dresser that can tame my mane and get my blonde the same way my old hair dresser did, well let me tell you Shena has gone above and beyond my expectations and I will continue to go to her! I just had my hair done again tonight and I was sending her Pinterest ideas for something a little different than what we had been doing and she gave me her total honest opinion and encouraged me and I love that. Again I left just one happy client. She totally makes me feel like I am her #1 priority before during and after every appointment. Complete waste of time, after waiting 3 weeks, borrowing my husbands car (mine wouldn't start this morning) and rearranging my work/photoshoot, and kids schedule I was told that she could not see me, because I went to the other Sola Salon, also located near the Dollar Store. I told her, I could be there in ten minutes, her response was that, the ten minutes will make her whole day back up and she's double booked and her assistant didn't come in today. Sounds like a personal/business management problem if you ask me. Beyond disappointed! Don't post BS in regards to my review if you don't have the facts straight! I called at 11:33, after I had already circled the inside of the Sola Salon. Considering my appointment was at 11:30! I should of known, the whole experience was very impersonal from the beginning. Shena has been styling my hair for about a year now. I can honestly say my hair has never looked better! She makes you feel right at home with complimentary mimosas and great conversation. To start, she always sits you down and has an in depth consultation. Today, I was going in to get my balayage touched up for my wedding. I love Shena. Before her I would never get my hair cut, because I felt like other stylists didn't really get what I wanted, but Shena is wonderful. She listens and is great, but also honest, which helps me to know what will or won't look right. When I came across Fringe Appeal, I knew my search was over. From her pictures alone, you already know she has a very specialized and experienced eye for hair color. But I will say, her expertise covers it all - from cuts, color, and styling, she nails it. I have never had this type of salon experience.
