Great experience here with my ear piercings! (Thanks, fellow Yelpers!) I had messaged the owner (TJ) through the website and he was super responsive and accommodating, letting me know that I could simply walk-in later that day. Upon arrival, I immediately felt welcomed and comfortable; TJ is super friendly and was very attentive, helpful, and truly understood what my concerns were and what I was looking for. After discussing things with TJ, I waited only about 15 minutes or so to speak with the piercing artist and get setup -- she was knowledgable and skilled, and I trusted her 100%. They have a wide selection of jewelry and I appreciated the education on implant grade vs. other metals and materials that had been aggravating my ears over the years. I wish pricing for different types of jewelry had been discussed further and/or were made more transparent (no prices to be seen next to the jewelry), but I suppose I could've been more outspoken and forward about asking for each price. Have been a few times for various piercings (earlobe, nostril, daith) and have worked with both Kirsten and Vicki. Super clean studio, very professional/nice check in process. Everything is explained clearly and concisely. Both piercers are great at what they do, and very respectful regarding consent/making their clients feel comfortable. The upside to their jewelry selection is everything is beautiful and high quality metals that won't irritate the piercing. I love that this place still allows walk in because my usual go to place now only takes appointment and that's just annoying to have to wait a week or so to get something simple like this done. My friend and I wanted to go and get butterfly tattoos done. We reached out on their website to make an appointment and in less than 24 hours the owner (TJ) has emailed us back and helped us to get exactly what we wanted. He was very quick at getting back to us with any questions we had and helped guide us to make sure our tattoos were exactly what we wanted. After talking to TJ our artist (Ralph) reached out to get some good reference images to make sure he could design exactly what we needed. When getting the tattoo Ralph was amazing. He was very easy to talk to and super kind. Not to mention his tattooing skills are amazing. He used a reference image to make sure he shaded in all the right places, and the tattoo looks just like the image. This place is the best!! Went to see Vicki earlier today. Some background: had a rook piercing done a few days ago at a less than reputable piercer, and it was HURTING. So red, inflamed and infected, and I've had piercings done before so I knew something had gone wrong for my rook. I was a bit nervous at first, but she guided me through everything, making sure I was comfortable every step of the way. They are a bit expensive compared to other places you could go to get a piercing in NYC but I WILL go here again. I believe the quality of a piercing and it's jewelry trumps the cost it takes to get it done. Go to Studio 28, and enjoy your piercing experience. I went to this place two weeks ago Friday to get a nipple piercings and the girl Kathy obviously had no idea what she was doing she pierced me at an angle and also placed a small bar which is a huge No-No when your piercing nipples after I explain this to her via Instagram because these people are so unprofessional they don't even have a direct number you can reach them at she tried to blame me stating how my breasts are on an angle I went to three different piercers after her and they said yeah she screwed up! I am giving 4 stars because Thomas T.J was very nice, accomodating, and helped to fix the piercing issue that I had during my first visit to his store. On my first visit the piercer(Kirsten) punched the hole in the wrong place without forcing proper symmetry, it cost me over 300 bucks including the tiny hammered earpins. After writing to Thomas T.J (owner), he helped to correct and redo the punch free of charge, though I had to debate my issue with the piercer to prove her wrong before the correction. I still recommend Studio 28 if your budget is over $300 for two ear piercing, but, one must negotiate, and double check the markings before piercing is done. Due to COVID-19 Policy customer is not allowed to be accompanied by a friend or a family member. The receptionist overzealously enforced COVID-19 Policy in store, and was rudely ordering to follow the floor markings when there was no other customer present in store except myself. My friend wasn't allowed inside the store. I felt like being in a military zone instead of being with artists. read more

I got my ears pierced when I was a kid - that was the extent of my body mod experience. So you could essentially call me a piercing newbie. I had long toyed with the idea of a third piercing and decided today was the day. After reading reviews, I chose this place and was booked with Kirsten. This shop was awesome. The minute I walked in I noticed how clean it was. The second thing I noticed was the display of body jewelry. So beautiful. And the 3rd thing I noticed was the costumer service. My friend and I were greeted warmly and with an open and easy disposition. It was A breath of fresh air. This was my very first nose piercing and I wanted something small and inconspicuous. I chose a very cute and small clear crystal stud. But the second my companion noticed a rose gold item and asked about it just for curiosity I had to learn more. It was A LOT more expensive but it was real gold and rose gold is my favorite color. I was only indecisive for a minute and chose the rose gold. I was assured that even though my second choice was larger the color would blend well with my skin and not stand out as much. Now came the moment of truth. I never gave it any thought, I didn't think I'd be nervous and I wasn't. I was excited. The room was immaculate and comfortable. Kirsten was lovely and friendly. Even though she was tired and ready for bed she made us feel welcomed. The procedure was quick and not so painless, but totally easy. As soon as I saw myself I was so happy. First of all, my husband (two kids and I) always stay right next door at the Fairfield Inn and Suites, but we had never checked this place out. Randomly, this trip to NYC hubs decided to get a tattoo he's always wanted to get (our state outline-Virginia-and his old area code). We schlepped both kids up the stairs (and there's a lot of them) to the tattoo parlor and busted in their door, much to their amusement. I'm sure we looked like the awkward partridge family. Long story short, after talking to them for a bit, they sketched out an image, settled on a price, helped him pick a place, and got started. From when we first walked in the door to when hubs left, it was around 2 or 3 hours. I've posted pictures of it. They did a FABULOUS job. I think we had an idea what it would look like, but what they actually did blew us out of the water. A relatively simple and easy tattoo ended up looking SO amazing because of the shading, outline, and clean design. The location on his body (their suggestion) is perfect and they did such an amazing job. Hubs wants to get started on a half sleeve and I think we're going to be heading back to NYC for him to get them to do it. Overall, they are super talented and very kind. To start off, avoid this place. Seriously. Never make decide to get a tattoo while you're walking around Chelsea... I made a big mistake coming here on Thursday 3/10/16... I honestly have been thinking about this tattoo for a while and just looked up on Yelp! what shops are good. My mistake was not reading all of the reviews before calling. After I got the tattoo done, I realized all the reviews are about PIERCINGS!!!! Ugh why do I do this to myself? Now I'm stuck with a shitty tattoo! So I called in and they said they can take me in about an hour, great! Then when I got there, we talked about what I would get and where I want it and then came the price... $230 for 9 words tattooed... I was so shocked and the owner replies with "well we are good at what we do"... That was pretty nice to hear.. Not. But I felt bad because I called and had to pick a font out and the whole nine yards. Alex was my artist. He was : -heavy handed -no breaks were given in between the words or even letters -too fast, he did it within 20 mins. Another thing I was floored by.. He wrapped my fucking $230 tattoo in medical tape and a piece of BOUNTY. HE WRAPPED MY F***ING TATTOO THAT COSTED $230 IN BOUNTY!!!!!!!!!! Omg I was shocked.... So I paid $230 for just a crappy job. As you see in the pictures below, the tattoo is sloppy, and ugly. Thank you very much for the garbage that will be on my arm for the rest of my life Alex and STUDIO 28!!! Avoid this place. read more

I have a lot of tattoos. Because of that, I have a lot of experience with tattoo artists. Some of them have been good, and some have been not so good. Unless you know the artist personally it can be a toss up as to whether or not the artist you choose for your tattoo really understands your wants or needs. This can be tricky. It doesn't always work out. That said, I have to give a lot of credit to Anna, an artist at Studio 28. I first went to Anna to get an elephant tattoo. I had some ideas of what I wanted the tattoo to look like--I could picture it in my head, but I didn't know how to relate those ideas to her. I kept fumbling around with my words and showing her images of other designs that I liked. Anna worked with me through this whole process never losing patience with me. She took the time to ask me questions about my style and likes. This customer service already stood out to me from some of the other tattoo experiences I had had. The fact that Anna took this time to get a real sense of what I was looking for really made me feel confident about the tattoo I was going to get. As it turns out, this tattoo is my favorite of all the tattoos I have (and like I said, I have a lot). I have gone back to Anna since, and every tattoo she has designed for me has far exceeded the expectations of what I had in mind. It really helps that Anna custom designs every tattoo instead of just taking an image or design from someone else. It makes me feel like my tattoos are special. Every encounter that I have had with her I have felt heard and understood even when I couldn't find the words to describe what I wanted. I cam here a few weeks ago to do my nipple piercings with Kristen. I called about an hour before I came in and asked a million questions. The lady on the phone was very nice and informative and told me I can come in anytime to see the piercer. When I came in,the place was clean and nice. I met Kristen and I could tell she knew what she was doing. In planing to do this, I did a lot of research : most people said the nipples were the most painful piercings. Clearly, Kristen did not get that memo because the entire piercing process was virtually painless. It was a TINY pinch on both of them and not nearly the terror stories you hear online. She told me how to take care of my newest additions and on the way home, they throbbed just a little bit. It's been a few weeks and I haven't had any issues w them. Tattoo: the artist was helpful with placement and giving suggestions. He transformed a previous tattoo into something better Time: took about an hour. They usually require advance appointments but I explained that I was only in New York for a few days and it was really important to me that I got the tattoo on the 1 year mark of my kidney donation and they were able to squeeze me in. Cost: they required a non-refundable $100 deposit to hold the appointment which went towards your cost if you showed up. Then when you get there they require you to pay for the tattoo before you get it which I didn't like but I did it anyways since I was on a specific time crunch. My tattoo was $200 plus tip. A little pricey compared to other tattoos I have (ie my side piece was $200 after tip at a different tattoo studio in California). Studio: well lit, clean, average size. Had a couch for people to wait and a bathroom. read more

The thing about piercing studios & tatt parlors is they aren't known for their customer service and people look past shitty social interactions for skilled labor... but here you don't have to make that compromise. This place may seem expensive at first blush but what you get is a great staff, thoughtful and prompt customer service, the comfort and confidence of passionate professionals and the easy access of a great location. (Caveat... "easy" as defined for able bodied people who can take on stairs!) Not only was the studio communicative and a pleasure to speak with, their were compassionate and respectful.
