Alexander helped us execute a custom-designed floating desk and entertainment center. I did extensive research and Alexander was the only one with the skillset to help within our budget. He is booked months out on larger residential and commercial projects, so if he fits you in consider yourself lucky. Master craftsmen like Alexander are busy for a reason, and the vast majority do not take on small side projects. Take a quick glance at his work on his website and you'll see what I mean.  I loved working with Alexander. He is professional and has a lifetime of experience. This was particularly important for our project in an old building, with warped, uneven walls that were difficult to drill into. Many people told us it would not be possible to do this project, but Alexander had the skillset to make it happen. He was able to adapt on the fly and work very quickly while maintaining the quality and look we were hoping for. He is a wizard, and even took apart one of our cabinets and redesigned it upside down on the fly so it would open properly under the heavy oak desktop. I was able to watch and learn alongside him. It's like watching an artist at work. As a bonus, he has great stories about old townhouses in Brooklyn if you like architecture and history.   I highly recommend this local business. I requested a quote on Yelp and received a response from one of the owners (Anne). I asked for a time to talk about the details of my project and scheduling a simple call with Anne was very difficult as she repeatedly told me how busy they were. I gave specific times of availability and when I called during an agreed upon block I still couldn't reach them. Anne later returned my call and apologized saying they were having issues with the phone company. Despite that, I had a great conversation with her, I described my project and she seemed to be just as excited to help with it. She mentioned several times on the call that they were backed up from other jobs but she would be able to get me a quote that week (fri 11/1) I initially requested the quote on 10/27. Friday came and went no quote, the weekend passed, and Monday too! I reached back out Tuesday and told Anne I hate to be a pain, but I needed the quote so I know how to proceed. She apologized, again mentioning being backed up and promised to send by end of day. Finally at the very end of the work day I received a quote that was way above the budget I had given them, it also didn't factor in mass production of the items I wanted made. I made it abundantly clear to Anne on our initial call I intended to have dozens of the items made. In her email with this extremely high quote she said they couldn't give me better pricing without a thorough conversation. That's the exact same statement she made after I initially requested a quote, which is why we scheduled a call and I gave her all the details she needed. Response time is lacking, they don't seem to have the bandwidth for large jobs, and pricing model is weird. They just make up numbers instead of working by an hourly rate. This place is probably hit or miss, or maybe this was a one off, either way they need better process. read more

I called Studio 19 Woodworks to inquire about building a table for my son, who had limited space for his NYC apartment. He needed the table rather quickly and Anne made sure his table was timely crafted. She also offered suggestions for the type of wood, (Maple,) and correct dimensions in designing a minimalistic type table, which seems to be trending now. A few weeks later the table was ready and they sent a picture for us to approve the design. A small tweak was made in the design. Both Anne and the owner Alexander were extremely accommodating and wanted to make sure my son was happy. The table, as pictured exceeded expectations. This quality is superb, solid and not seen in regular retail stores. My son will have this versatile classic table for many years to come. I wish I had not hired Studio 19 Woodworks to create shelves for me. Both Alexander and Anne were unpleasant to work with. When the shelves I ordered did not meet the specifications (isn't that what custom-made is all about?), Alexander referred to it as a "perceived depth discrepancy". Very condescending when clearly he was at fault. On top of that, the staining of the shelves was heavy-handed and they were installed in such a way that there were visible (contrasting) screws everywhere. I would describe Anne as haughty - not an asset to the business at all. When Alexander finally agreed to address the problem, I felt so strongly about not wanting to deal with them, that I just told them not to bother. Try your luck with another carpenter. I purchased a custom bed from Studio 19, and I love it! Alejandro at Studio 19 was extremely responsive and attentive from the start. I started out the process by talking about the basics of what I needed and my price range. This was my first time investing in a piece of custom furniture. I shared a few images of examples that I liked, and he discussed options for the type of wood and price range. Then he sketched what the bed frame would look like. Next I went to the studio to see the bed in process. After making a few tweaks to the design, I received the bed with an in-home delivery a week later. The whole process took around 4-5 weeks, if I recall correctly. I love the end result and it was quite affordable relative to the price of other premium or designer furniture suppliers. I am a Reiki Master and practice out of my apartment in Park Slope, Brooklyn. I have two Reiki (massage) tables and had been storing them leaning against a wall when not in use. For several years I had been looking for someone to build a cabinet to store one of the folded tables that matched the cabinets in my kitchen/dining area. I had another unused space in my kitchen behind some drawers and an under-the-counter clothes dryer. Several people came to look at the job and never came back! Not Alexander. He is a problem-solver and expert cabinet maker. He perfectly matched the existing pantry cabinets for the first table--even found the granite to match my countertops and perfectly fit it to the top. Then he figured out an ingenious solution for the second hidden cabinet. He created a trolly that the table sits on that fits perfectly in a formerly unused space behind the dryer. The end of the trolly is the door. I was SO happy with his work! Then I had him take on another difficult problem. He found a mechanism that will lift my bed on hydraulic hinges to access the space underneath. He built the bed out of recycled old wood. It's gorgeous and so practical. If you can imagine it, Alex can build it! His craftsmanship is superb and making the customer happy and proud of the work is of utmost importance to him. Alex created a wall of bedroom built-ins for me. There were many complicating factors. I live in a brownstone apartment. The floor is sloped, and the walls are not plumb. Alex measured again and again to make sure he had the precise differentials so he could make it fit properly. In addition, the piece was too big to be brought into the apartment. He built the piece in his studio, disassembled it and then rebuilt it in my apartment. I love the piece for its form and functionality, and get tons of compliments.
