Had an issue with the way they installed my hair extensions. Tried for 3 days to get a 15 minute appointment so that they could fix them. Drove an hour (they knew I lived across the city) & when I got there, the door was locked. Texted my stylist and she stated she couldn't make it. (It was always typical that she was late) She then told me to wait and someone would be there in 45 minutes to assist. Almost an hour and a half later, another no show. I paid for parking, sat at a coffee shop and cancelled work meetings because of their unprofessionalism and lack of communication. A willingness to fix their mistake quickly should've been a priority. My stylist knew I was going on vacation and acted as though it was my fault that I couldn't hang out half the day waiting for them. I wasted 3 hours of my morning and my extension wasn't repaired. If your time and money is valuable, go elsewhere. read more

I paid $650 for a cut and color. The color washed out in 1 week and I never received my cut. I tried for over 2 months to come in and have the stylist (Amanda) see my hair and get my cut. It was like pulling teeth and the one time I was finally able to come in she called at the last min to change the time. I've talked to the front desk staff and managed multiple times via text and phone call and still haven't received my cut. Tried to get at least half my money back for a color that washed out in a week and the cut I never received (manager agreed with me) but the stylist refused! I'm out $650! I do not recommend Amanda, unless you want to experience the longest haircut of your life. My hair was long and I asked her to cut off at least 10 inches to donate it. She had difficulty figuring out how long 10 inches was and where to tie the rubber band around my hair before cutting it. In the end she had to solicit another stylist to do this. I should have known something was off with her. It took Amanda 3 hours to cut my hair. Just a haircut, no color/highlights/any special treatment. Although it's in the heart of downtown, it's totally worth the drive and traffic. For many years I have been coming here and have always loved the family environment of the staff. Everyone is friendly and welcoming and I always leave looking more fabulous than when I came in. Cruz is awesome. He's been in the business for a long time and can make miracles happen. I just recently let him cut my long brown hair to a bronde bob and he did an exceptional job. I have been coming to another stylist who was a good friend of mine for the last several years, but he recently moved to another continent, so he told me I would be safe in Cruz's hands. Not to mention, before it was Studio 1514, it was called the Style Labb and Cruz owned it. If you're looking for extensions, this place is home to the #mermaidhair and while I was in there yesterday, I some really really good extensions happening. I really like this salon for multiple reasons. First and foremost to have your hair colored the pricing is reasonable and they will style your hair upon leaving for no extra charge. (I've had problems in Austin with salons not doing this) Secondly I think Katie (mermaid hair) is amazing and has an excellent work ethic. I hate to have to update my review, but it's only fair. Since my initial review which was for the initial visit for extensions, I have had frustrations. The beads are very hard to hide, especially on windy days and if you want to wear your hair up or back, which I do in the summer. My hair tangled and frizzed like crazy. After my first tightening appointment, my hair started to shed like crazy. Handfuls of hair everywhere. It was embarrassing. Hair in my food, all over me, on the floors of everywhere I sat. Last week I lost a whole bundle of hair while driving in my car. I sent a photo and text to Katie and didn't even get a reply. I texted again this week to cancel my next appointment. Not even a reply. $900 is a lot of money to have this many issues after just one tightening. I wanted to love the hair. First and foremost when I set out to make any changes to my appearance I google and research the heck out of whatever it may be before actually doing it! I would hate to try "try" or "change" something only to find out had I done my homework I could have avoided the disaster from the get go. That being said I decided to try extensions and have had every sort of clip in, head banded, so called amazing no damaging kind there is!! After wasting my time, money and effort into all that I was ready for some a little more "permanent" I came across Katie's page and immediately was drawn in. I started to read reviews some good some not so good and after much reading, reaching and debate decided to at least give the consultation a shot. No, I immediately did not get a response from Katie however when I called the studio the next day was able to schedule my appointment. A couple weeks later it was time for my consultation. IN DETAIL Katie explained the extensions, the process and we agreed on my "vision" of what I wanted. I was EXTREMELY excited and comfortable about the whole process at this point and TRUST ME ran her through the ringer with questions. I was ready to set up my day and time to get them and it couldn't come fast enough! On the day I was getting my extensions I sat down and immediately Katie and I went to talking. It was like we had been friends for years. Throughout our conversation she would keep me updated on what she was doing and asked me if there was any discomfort etc. A couple hours later it was time for my big reveal and I was speechless. They were even more beautiful than I had imagined! I want everyone to understand too I did NOT want DRASTIC! I wanted only the 18' extensions and natural looking highlights which was achieved because of the highlights. I did not want nor care for people to know what I had done! I have to give it to Katie she did just that! People over the next few weeks and then months kept complimenting my hair and asking if I had got it cut differently and pointed out they loved the color change. THANK YOU KATIE for keeping it exactly as we discussed. Of course with extensions comes a lot of care and maintenance! I will say Katie made this very clear from the get go and even has a print out sheet to help you stay on track!Please understand extensions are an INVESTMENT and REQUIRES WORK! In fact I was a little overwhelmed at first with extra steps needed in my daily hair care regiment but it eventually becomes second nature. I have read comments on here about the quality in the hair and massive amounts negative things but have to wonder... Did you truly follow the steps she gave you? AND did you use the products SHE recommended and even has available? Let's face it we try and cut corners and save ourselves money by buying the bargain and sale hair care products... Can not do this with extensions! There is a reason she recommends what she does and if you want to protect your investment you will buy what has! For the record she profits NOTHING from these sales so you're not being scammed. As far as discomfort goes the beads are tiny foreign objects close to your scalp so I will go with tinder but not painful! By day three a couple times I had forgotten I even had them. Now it's time for my "maintenance" which was scheduled in advance from my initial visit. For this you will not have have Katie she as she is the extension installation queen so you will have one of her assistants. I promise you this is ok! I see why some panic upon the starting of having your extensions tightened as yes hair does come out and fall to the floor this is normal and ok because NO it's not your REAL hair. It's just the tangles that get brushed out and pulled from the original extension hair strand. Sorry but I personally do not want stringy or tangled extensions tightened back up onto my head so thank you for brushing them out! Now for the fun part!! I am naturally platinum blonde however love rocking a brunette. Per Katie I was recommended to Alex who has worked with clients with extensions before (again only trying to protect my investment). She was phenomenal! A have a solid routine now between my color and tightening my extensions and I love it! All in all my mermaid extensions are worth the investment and my efforts! I love them and will continue to have them as long as I can and if for any reason I have any complaints I promise I will post those as well. I typically don't write reviews but feel the need to now because who knows maybe there are other weirdos like me who Google, research and review the crap out of things before any consideration is given! I came here in October 2014 and got a curly cut by Haiya. Although I didn't like the products she used, I went home and styled my hair w/ my own products and absolutely loved the cut. It lasted for about 9 months. I went back last month to get another curly cut. The initial cut last October was $80. Pricey, but typical for a curly cut. When I called to make my appointment this time, the price had increased to $150. That's almost double and just ridiculous IMO for a haircut, however I knew she would do a good job and didn't want to take the risk of someone else jacking up my hair. While Haiya was about to start my cut, there was a little girl about 11 years old next to me crying at the top of her lungs. Didn't bother me at all. What did bother me is the fact that all the stylists in the salon were talking crap about the parents of the little girl (right in front of the girl and the parents) because they didn't brush her hair for weeks, and she was now forced to get her head shaved. I just think that's so unprofessional and tacky. Especially to be talking like that in front of a customer. It just really put a bad taste in my mouth. Now....the haircut. I really wasn't nervous or anything as Haiya has cut my hair before. I told her what I wanted and she began snipping. The cut itself took maybe 15 minutes, which seemed a little rushed. She then washed and deep conditioned my hair and then began to diffuse it. I told her I always wear my hair in a side part, yet she proceeded to style my hair in the weird mop style with the bangs over my forehead. It just annoyed me that she styled my hair how she wanted it, and not how I requested. When I got home, I re-styled my hair how I prefer, and it looked good but not as good as the first cut. All in all, I will not be returning to Studio 1514 due to the high price, lack of professionalism, and quality of haircut. Called to book my husband his hair cut appointment and we simply asked how much it would be. They quoted us $150 and booked the appointment. We didn't know who was going to cut his hair or informed they just basically told us to show up. After the hair cut and color the total came out to be $324 after tip- the actually total was around $290 ish. I called after to let them know we were not quoted the total we paid. No credits were returned all they said was a simple "oh I'm sorry I should've confirmed the total ahead of time". I'm like "okay but someone here quoted me something else" so I guess they change the prices every three hours. It was completely unprofessional to deal with this situation especially how careless they were about it. Be careful going here they will sneak up totals on your $. If you want a cut and color just expect to almost pay $400 even for women. If I could give my experience 0 stars I would to be honest. I waited a week to write this review because I'm not really one to write negative reviews but I really felt I needed to share my experience with Erika. I was at the salon for 8 hours (the longest it's taken anyone to do my hair) and still left the salon with my hair looking like i hadn't just gotten it done. I am a very light blonde and my roots were brassy and dull when I left. She did 3 different toners on me and washed them out immediately instead of letting the first toner sit like every other salon has ever done on my hair. She was an hour late to my appointment (I was her first client in the morning) and even when she got there she kept leaving me for long periods of time before I was completely foiled. I found her on Instagram and thought I was going to love my experience and I really wanted to, but I ended up paying $190 for a full highlight with no cut and for a service that was the worst I have ever had. Then I had to pay even more to have someone at another salon fix what she had done because I didn't want to step foot in that salon again. I definitely won't be going back or recommending anyone to this salon. Update: 9/23 - 25 days later this salon proceeded to make the situation worse. No one reached out to me days or a week after my appointment in August. Instead 25 days later the stylist sent me a text asking if there was anything they could do for me to take my review down. I proceeded to tell her that the only thing that would make this right for me would be a full refund. She responded that the salon doesn't offer refunds and she was thinking more that I could come in for some blowouts/deep conditioners. I told her I didn't feel that was enough to compensate for how much time I was at the salon, how many times she left me sitting there unfoiled, and how I left upset with how my hair looked. Not to mention I had to pay someone else to fix it. A very experienced stylist who said it didn't even look like I had just gotten my hair done. She then basically told me that I was wrong and sent me 6 different before and after pictures. I have gone to multiple salons with my hair in the same condition as the before photos she sent me and they had ZERO problem getting my hair to what I asked for. I have literally never had this problem with any stylist I have seen. Hence the reason I have never written a bad review before this one. I have also never asked for a refund anywhere else. So instead of making this situation better, 25 days later they just made me mad all over again. I will make sure I let everyone I know not to go to this salon. read more

IF you're looking for a dependable and respectable salon for your special event, I would NOT recommend Studio 1514. The business owner and staff were all a complete let down. The owner NATALIA GUILLEN, has no business sense nor tact. The stylist were average if that., I had my daughters quinceneria at the Adolphus on Jan 17, 2015; thinking I should go with a local salon, the Adolphus referred me to Studio 1514. I booked my appointment for 16 girls and paid cash to hold my reservation back in September as requested. In October, I walked into the hair salon, requested my total balance and I paid it in full. The only thing I didn't square away was the cost to have 4 stylist come to my hotel suite the morning of the event. I called the salon several times to get the amount I needed to pay for their travel fee, as I wanted to make sure all was settled ahead of time. unfortunately the owner NATALIA GUILLEN decided to finally call me the weekend before my event. Not to tell me the price I needed to pay for the travel fee but to insult me and tell me that I still owed them a balance. I understand it could've been a misunderstanding, figures may have been crossed or what not but to assume I was trying to cheat her out paying her for their services was a slap in the face. NATALIA kept yelling at me insisting that had "I" done the math correctly, I would've known that I was not charged the correct amount. Keep in mind the day I went in to pay my balance in full, I paid exactly what was quoted to me by the receptionist. Not once did Natalia state that her employee made an error and due to that I was charged incorrectly but instead she kept yelling at me, telling me had I done the math, I would know what the correct fee should be. When I requested the invoices to support her claim, Natalia couldn't provide me with them. Natalia stated that she didn't have a book keeper?? What ethical business doesn't have a book keeper? at this point I was stuck between a rock and a hard place and couldn't chance losing my money I had already paid them. So I couldn't cancel.. on the day of the event the hair stylist were late, the make-up artist was 45min late. Out of the 16 girls, 5 didn't get their hair done. Not to mention the stylist did a horrible job on 3 of the girls. I had to request they re-do their hair. None of the hair stylist knew how to do a water-fall braid? What stylist doesn't know how to braid. I knew the owner would somehow "show me", and that she did. However I had a backup plan and called in the Hair Bar out of Southlake who were not only on time , they knew what they were doing. They stepped up and did the job Studio 1514 failed to do. I've had my hair done by others due to living so far from downtown Dallas, just to come right back (more like crawling) to Cindy just because I know every time she will color correct my hair and have it exactly how I wished it would look like!
