    Chicken nuggets for the kids.

Amazing food, beautiful seating area outdoors. We ordered fish and chips, that came with small side salad. The fish was fresh and relatively large portion. Kids ordered chicken nugget that came with 5 large pieces and fries. Staff were friendly and food came in fast.

We ate here our first night in town. It was after 9 pm and we were pleasantly surprised to find a delicious meal still available. We both had salmon with lemon risotto, and it was served with scallops and shrimp. It was the best food we had in Norway. We returned one morning for coffee and tea and were again not disappointed. My tea was brewed from loose leaves that our barista reported were from a well established tea shop in Oslo. It was delicious. My husband enjoyed a cortado. Both of our drinks came with a piece of mint chocolate. The barista was incredibly friendly. Altogether, this place can meet most of your food and drink needs in Stryn and it shouldn't be missed!

The food and coffee here is amazing! What was best of all was The service. If you're ever in Stryn, I would highly recommend coming here

For dessert, they recommended carrot cake as their speciality, which was also very good.

Just to give you a heads-up on your own packaged Norway adventure, Flåm and Geiranger are the two…read morevillages in which you'll spend an inordinate amount of time because they are the tourist hubs of the most picturesque fjords in Norway. Geiranger is the smaller of the two with only 250 residents, but it's Norway's third largest cruise ship port. It definitely felt like it when Jamie W. and I were there during a two-hour stop on our fjord cruise from Ålesund (review: https://bit.ly/3ckj0Zb). Beyond looking at the torrent that courses through town, we didn't much to do but eat. Options were pretty limited unless you want a hot dog. Like real bad. This cafe is on the main pedestrian walkway between the campground parking and the cruise ship terminal, and we weren't that hopeful of its quality based on its prime location. It was also drawing a lot of loudish tourists from various nations, and they weren't mindful of either the noise they were making or the excessive space they were taking. It was enough to test the limits of my butt-clenching abilities. However, we were pretty delighted by what we ordered and shared. First up was the 190 NOK ($19.30) Ham & Cheese Sandwich, generously portioned on a baguette with cucumber slices bringing fresh crunch (photo: https://bit.ly/3QHsgWn). Then there was the 280 NOK ($28.50) Dagens Suppe (Soup of the Day), a spicy and creamy carrot soup topped with toasted croutons and scallions (photo: https://bit.ly/3R363BP). Yes, it was like a school cafeteria lunch but a really well done one. We were pleased because we had a 3-1/2-hour boat ride back to Ålesund, and we didn't want no stinkin' hot dog. FOOD - 4 stars...surprisingly satisfying ham & cheese baguette sandwich and spicy carrot soup AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...well-kept to keep the tourists under control SERVICE - 4 stars...quite polite considering how rude some customers were TOTAL - 4 stars...if you're ever in Geiranger, this may be your best bet for a quick bite RELATED - Exploring Norway? Food with a…read moreview Fjellstua Cafeteria is actually two restaurants, one is a fancy place up on top and the other is a casual café type of place on the bottom. I didn't buy anything in the fancy restaurant but the cafe area has the typical food that you would expect. What you probably won't expect are the prices. But this is Norway and until you get use to it just about everything is shocking expensive once you convert your dollars into Norwegian Krone. The restaurant wouldn't be anything special if it wasn't for the fact it's up on top of Aksla Mountain with stunning views in all directions. There is a road going up but the fun way is climbing the four hundred something steep steps that start from the Alesund City Park. Really cool the way the steps kind of meander up the side of the mountain, complete with little lookout platforms with transparent bottoms. Not really that difficult if you take your time and enjoy the views on the way up. Once on top there are bathrooms as well as the cafeteria and some hiking trails that go off in different directions. You can get something to eat and drink up on top but be prepared to pay for it. The real reason most people climb those stairs are the views from the top. And those are always free.

It's a long way to the top so I would suggest you take the City Tour Train or drive up. Make you…read moretime on top much more enjoyable. We just had coffee after we got the since we had limited time and wanted to enjoy the views as much as possible. This is a must visit spot when you are in Alesund.
