    Local Gerainger Beer

Delicious and fresh restaurant with quality local ingredients! The road up to the restaurant is extremely sketchy as its a steep one lane road with two way traffic. It was worse for us as it was foggy and raining hard while we were driving up.. Luckily we didn't encounter any opposing traffic on our drive up. Use GPS and drive slowly to look for the signs leading to the road up as it can be easy to miss. The views from the restaurant windows are great even with foggy weather. You can see up to the viewpoint and down to the fjord! We visited after doing the nearby hike to the waterfall and ordered from the lunch menu. We ordered an open faced salmon sandwich and a waffle with strawberry jam. We told them we were going to share and they decided on their own to nicely plate both halves for us separately! We also got our first taste of the Gerainger Brewery beer here! Great place to visit before or after a hike but be careful with the drive.

A little expensive (entrées are around 240NOK) but we were pleasantly surprised at the quality of food that this restaurant at the Westeras Farm puts out. We were staying there for the night, so we chose to eat here after seeing the good reviews on TripAdvisor. There are only three choices for entrées. My boyfriend opted for the salmon, and I chose the beef entrecote without cream sauce, and they asked for my preferred doneness for the beef. The food is well-plated and well-executed. My beef was tender, juicy, and flavorful. The potatoes and carrots (fresh from the farm) had a nice crisp crust. The raspberry sauce was a nice addition as well. We did not have room for dessert, but the desserts at the other tables looked great.

Getting to this place in and of it's self is an adventure because you have to go up tight road with gates and drive through fields with sheep. There are hikers sharing the road as well as one-way traffic that has to navigate on a steep cliff side how to get around each other. It's the beginning of the kind of effort that's required behind the food as well it's absolutely exquisite. We had pretty much everything on the menu it's not a large menu and so that doesn't say that much. I wouldn't call the food simple by any means but I would say for sure it is everything you'd want in a finally prepared meal. In fact not a thing was out of place in it's preparation and the way it was plated! Services friendly personable and they have cabins for rent nearby so it's super casual environment with views of the entire fjord in the village below. The fact that when I making this post there's one only other post with the review means absolutely nothing I can't imagine that there's any other restaurant in town that's better. If you ask the locals they'll definitely tell you that when their friends are in town this is where they send them to eat.

    Smoked salmon salad appetizer. Yum!

The new owners and staff provided service as excellent as the facility, room, and food! In fact, the food was so good that a Russian billionaire came for lunch one of the days we were there (but we were hiking so we didn't see him). We felt truly cared for by all the staff. Even the cleaning ladies were smiling and helpful, giving our kids a few extra pieces of candy. The view is fantastic, and we loved the fire pit outside with the picnic tables and the stream running in the back yard (you can take a dip if you're brave!) Hosts are warm, friendly and helpful. Location is not in town so you probably need a car or can take a bus that stops at the hotel. Very convenient to the Trollstigen. Definitely recommend this place for hotel or dinner.

Additionally, the food is absolutely incredible. I have been to the Gloppen many times and the food never disappoints. They serve a a lot of traditional Norwegian cuisine which is fun to experience the culture. One of my favorite meals here is the white fish. It is so fresh and always cooked to perfection. Last night I had the scallops with a tomato compote for an appetizer, steak served with potatoes and a raspberry sorbet with a molten chocolate cake for dessert. I was in heaven. Gloppen Hotel has served as a wonderful base for exploring the fjords, mountains and wonderful countryside. We spent yesterday in Lovatnet and today hiking in the mountains. Even the beer is made here! The decor is tasteful and reminds you of the fishing history and strong people who have lived in this village for generations. Yes...this is the hotel that was used for many of the indoor scenes in the movie Ex Machina,…read moreand...yes...the location near Valldal, Norway is every bit as stunning and tranquil as you would expect. This hotel has been as carefully thought out as Swiss watch. The rooms (cabins really) are functional and austere in a way that is uniquely Scandinavian, and they've been integrated into the landscape in such a way that every room has a breathtaking view. Furniture is minimal but so comfy that a day spent with a good book, pausing for occasional glances at the mountains and river, is as pleasant as a hike up those same mountain sides. But beyond the impression you get from the movie and the photos, you'll also find an owner eager to make each guest's stay special, astoundingly good food (which you'll really appreciate if, like us, you stay at the Juvet during the off-season when not much else is open), the wonderful company of the other guests, and...well...Norway!

Hair, dust and just not very clean. It needs vacuuming, dusting... just a thorough cleaning. When we arrived I noticed in a review to ask for a robe so you can put it on over your suit when you go to spa. We arrived late in afternoon and I asked for a robe. Did not get one. The man who met us when we arrived told us where we were staying and I was anxious to see rooms. After seeing rooms I went back and asked again for a robe and the man seemed a little impatient but gave me 2 robes (one for me and my husband). Went to spa ... cover on hot tub. The sauna (steam room) was not turned on. I did not see any switch to turn it on. My son went back to find the man who greeted us. He wasn't happy about having to come to spa (according to my son). The man went to an electrical room and got it to work. My husband took off cover of hot tub and there were dead insects floating on top of water. Our 2 sons joined my husband and myself for dinner. One of my sons had a business call in the U.S . to attend to. He was 10 minutes late to dinner. The man who greeted us when we arrived at Juvet pointed to his watch and tapped it when my son walked in. This did not make my son feel good. The 1st course had just then been placed on the table. My son ate very little and left. He felt like he had been scolded and was looking forward to a relaxing stay but thus far after the spa experience and now being scolded for being 10 min. Late spoiled any relaxation. Juvet is not an inexpensive place to stay. I expect a clean and nice room and if there is a hot tub and steam room that it is operating, clean and no effort on my part to look for someone to help so we can use it. I don't think I'll make the effort or spend my money to stay there again but the view was beautiful and view from room beautiful. It's too bad it isn't operated like it could be.
