Ali's treatments quickly fixed my wrist and neck pain. She's skilled at identifying movement problems and providing effective solutions.

Over the last 15 years I have been coming to the studio on & off. Life has been kicking my ass as it has most of us since 2020 & this past summer I reached my healing warrior limit & realized that I had done much work on healing my emotional & mental wounds, but not physical ones. I had no idea what to except when I started this training, but let me tell you it has exceeded my expectations. Be In Union is just that. It is a powerful community space to Be In Union with yourself & others in the community who we share more in common with than we realize. I always just "did yoga". After these 3 months I now understand what it means to have a practice. I highly recommend taking the ride to this sacred, energetic space to take classes. Know that you can show up as your are, even if you simply made it on the mat & lay there for yourself. The Yoga Teacher training was truly life changing for me. My intention was never to be a teacher, I simply wanted to get back in touch with & heal my body. I am grateful that I am now part of this community I never knew I really had, yet have been part of for 15 years. Goes to show how if we push ourselves past our comfort zones things "we never imagined" are possible. This teacher training was one of the best investments that I have made in myself.

The studio still feels like a second home to me. There are now more varieties of classes than ever before, the memberships are affordable, and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They offer gentle assists, anatomically safe instruction (Jenna is meticulous about this), and the right balance of challenge and variation for all levels. I come from a different tradition than Jenna's training but have always left learning something new, and appreciating her style, humility and compassion. The space is warm, beautifully done with a combination of greenery, that reclaimed wood post and beam architecture, and clean lines. There's not a lot of Hindu influence here - their music selections are mostly ambient, modern relaxation or upbeat tracks that don't compete with instruction. Don't get confused -- enter through the Main St. door, as if you were going to the bank, but keep going into the building, and up the first half flight of stairs, you're there! This is a wonderful business in Medford, I want to help hang permanent decal signs on the windows, as it's really hard to know that studio is even there. I discovered it by accident when visiting a friend. Gem in Medford. Support a small business owner offering really good yoga with a sincerely open heart.

I had previously done DUY's mysore program in Brookline (2015-2017 or so), and had taken hot yoga classes here and there. I will say, hot yoga is still not my favorite (I crave it maybe twice a year), and this location offers primarily heated flow. Being the closest to my house, though, I found myself attending class year when I purchased a new member monthly special and then subsequent class cards. I have noticed that they have made aesthetic improvements to the studio from when they first purchased it from another franchise. It is quite homey and I can tell there is definitely a community. There are infrequent non-heated classes, but the majority of the classes you will find on the schedule are hot. I discovered that teachers have a different level of heat, so you may want to try different ones to see what works best. My favorite teacher left about 18 months ago, but I will still drop in from time to time. Some teachers follow a pretty generic "hot flow class" type template while others are a bit more original and interesting. I do really like how each teacher has their own style and you get to know that and you can take class with the teachers you like best. I find the 9:30 AM weekday class convenient; not too full but also early enough in the day that I can still get started working from home at a somewhat reasonable hour. The standout teacher at this location for me is Masaaki.

Losing access to her teaching was my biggest disappointment when I moved from Cambridge so I was delighted when she started teaching by Zoom. I have taken yoga classes with a variety of instructors and Barbara is by far the best and most outstanding yoga instructor all around. I am so happy to continue to join Barbara's class weekly via Zoom. I cannot speak highly enough about her knowledge, expertise and ease in following her approach to teaching yoga. Barbara makes her Come to Yoga classes easy. She physically demonstrates each move and verbally walks her students through the process of how to safely enter, set themselves up and hold each move or pose. She offers alternatives to and with taking a pose or executing a move so as not to exacerbate any injuries or feeling of pain. I feel my body's flexibility, stamina and strength building with every class I have participated in and it feels wonderful!! When you arrive, note that the yoga studio is located in the same building as Life Alive, a health restaurant. Personal preference, I enjoyed the class at Hotbox much more. This class seemed to be a bit more advanced, with a focus on breathing and technique. Most people knew the names of the poses offhand and didn't look up at the instructor as much. The room itself was a bit cramped and I accidentally touched the feet of the person behind and beside me. That being said, I enjoyed the experience of hot yoga and left feeling refreshed. Be sure to bring your own yoga mat, as they require you to rent them otherwise (seems odd to me, as the classes are already quite expensive and the rental mats were of low quality). I'd recommend for those with more yoga experience, but I don't think I would personally return.

Here are a couple of things to be aware of: The facility is clean and is downstairs of Live Alive, but the space is small. It can get packed pretty easily with people leaving and coming in for class. They have a shower facility, but make sure to ask the receptionist from Down Under, not Live Alive employees, for the code because Live Alive wouldn't have any idea.
