I personally like strong pressure but Joel has a good balance of strength and gentleness. E-motions Sports Massage is THE BEST! I went in months ago with a sports injury (an old shoulder tweak) and after several treatments here I no longer have any pain. When you walk in, it's instantly inviting. The colors and lighting are warm and I liked the music in the waiting area. They also have a cool little rotating retail section with soaps, teas, and all sorts of fun stuff. I go in monthly and am always getting emails with deals and specials. I gave 1 star because I can't give a 0. I had 5 cryoskin sessions and didn't lose any inches. Do yourself a favor and DON'T do it! They love to take your money but don't deliver the goods! Rachel lied to me saying I'd lose X amount of inches and then when that didn't happen she changed her story. I got sucked in. Do yourself a favor and don't fall for the smoke and mirrors they're selling! Also trying to schedule is very difficult. Twice I showed up and couldn't get in because the door was locked and waiting 10 mins. Twice I sat in the waiting room and waited because the person before me was very late and they took her anyway and then made me wait. My time is valuable too! So impressed and glad I found Mercedes! First off, this is not a "oh that feels nice" massage, it is massage THERAPY. Mercedes is very knowledgeable about massage, muscles, and integrating different methods for your specific healing. What a horrible horrible place! They never pick up their phones, it's impossible to get an appointment. They barely have anybody in their system available to be booked with. Super unprofessional. The massage chairs are so old and hard, NOT comfortable at all. Their rates are SO high, $100 for a massage for such a disgusting place? However, when I found myself with a back injury about 5 weeks before the marathon, I decided that I would try a massage at the recommendation of my husband and a physical therapist. Since I already had planned to do a massage with Mercedes, it made sense to book with her for this one, too. Let me just say...wow. Mercedes took the time to listen to my problem and the steps I had already taken to try to fix the issue on my own and with other care providers. She outlined how she would do the massage and how it would help. Afterwards, I felt better than I had in weeks! She also had suggestions for how I could keep my back feeling better after the massage. Came in with a Groupon for a massage. My therapist was Rachel, and while she did a great job easing my muscle aches, I am taking away two stars for difficulty scheduling a visit and for unsatisfactory customer service. When I arrived, Rachel spent quite a bit of time complaining about their problems with Groupon, and made me feel awkward by telling me that I should not have been able to qualify for this visit since it was my second within a year. She then gave me a 45-min. massage (while the Groupon was for 60min.), even though there was no customer waiting when we were done. read more

Overall experience with E-Motion is fantastic. The business is very easy to find and park. Everyone is very warm and welcoming. All the therapists are very experienced which makes me feel confident that I can get an appointment in short notice! The rooms are "no frill" but they are extremely clean and comfortable. David is a fabulous therapist who takes as much time as needed to really work trouble areas. His deep tissue massages are intense in the best way possible and gives really helpful stretching tips on how to keep the muscles from going back to their bunched up state in between sessions. Update: Earnest, whom I rave about below, has left E-Motion. I can't say enough good things about Earnest Gildon. First, he communicates. He didn't just jump into a routine massage - he asked what was going on with my body and how I use and abuse it, and he worked on what I most needed rather than just going through a script. He used techniques from Thai massage to give me more mobility in my hips than I've had in ages. I stood up from his table feeling an inch taller than when I walked in. He's one of the most skilled massage therapists I've ever encountered, and he has the strength to work into deep and recalcitrant muscles. I am a fan. read more

I found out about the place through Groupon. I was psyched to get such a great deal for a 60-minute sports massage, because my budget is tight but training for my first marathon was rough on my body, and my coach recommended massages at least once a month. I went on a Friday afternoon and had trouble finding street parking, so I called from my car and they told me about the free lot behind their building. The building is a 1980s-esque professional building, but their space is clean and modern. I checked in and was asked if I wanted water or the restroom. I did need to use the restroom, and when I came back, Brian was ready for me. He asked me what brought me in so I told him about marathon training and a nagging hamstring issue that I've done PT for. He said he would focus on my lower body and lower back. I awkwardly asked if I was supposed to disrobe - I had meant to wear gym shorts. I'd never had a "sports massage" before so I thought it was more like PT. He didn't make me feel stupid for asking and said I could strip down to my knickers. Fine with me! Once I was under the sheet and blanket, he began the massage, reminding me to tell him if the pressure was ever too much. Honestly, my IT band are always tender and I found myself wincing a few times when he was working on those and my "love handle" area, but I knew pain was temporary and this was going to help me in the long run, so I didn't ask him to ease up. Afterward, he told he has grown men whine and yet I didn't flinch once. Yay me! In all seriousness, the massage was everything. My legs felt loose and ready to go on my long run the following morning, and it was a relaxing, peaceful hour for which my body and my mind thank Brian. It's pretty out of the way for me, but I've recommended it to a few people and might go back if I ever find the time again. read more

I felt very safe with Mercedes. Her attitude and presence made the experience meaningful for me. She started out with a myofascial release, but saw that the tension in my body was so deep that it needed extra love. She was very in tune with my body and seemed to sense the parts that needed the most attention. She found a spot of tension that released a lot of pent-up tension, and caused a wave of emotion and tears, which she guided me through. Very talented masseuse! Mercedes is fantastic! This was by far the best sports/deep tissue massage I've ever had. As an endurance runner, it's often difficult to keep my muscles loose and ready to race. Soreness and tightness in my legs has been increasingly problematic for me as my mileage increases. Relaxation massage is nice but Mercedes provides truly functional massage therapy, including stretching and recommendations for staying healthy. She was very much in tune with what my body needed and addressed both the issues we talked about prior to the massage as well as problem areas she found during the session. David is fantastic! I have the worst knots in my neck and shoulders from hours at a desk and being naturally tense. he finds them all and works each of them out. He's a magician i swear.
