Your go to French food!…read more I've been twice and the food here is simple yet good. Service for French food is made to order, so you may be waiting a bit longer than us Americans are used to. The service isn't exactly like "rude", my server just didn't check on me as I'm accustomed to. After orders, the drinks come quickly and a bit after, the appetizers. It was a good at least 20mins until my food actually came. (All five of our plates.) I went on a weekday for dinner and it wasn't too busy. I believe service like this is normal in France. So I just wanted y'all to be aware of this! The cheese board is always an easy go to for everyone. Their cheese is of course amazing. The sliders are small but soooo tasty. I recommend everyone to order it at least once. When the food actually comes, depending on what you order, it's quite a lot. Lots of the orders come with fries which is always a plus. Steaks are cooked perfectly to however you like. Most plates are on the heavy side and packed full for hungry people. Even though we couldn't finish our plates, I always want dessert. Their tiramisu was ok. It's more mousse like and not as much espresso flavored in that it lacked the amount of lady fingers which I was looking for. If you do get it, I recommend sharing. Creme brûlée of course is always an easy enjoyable dessert but nothing out of the ordinary. Of course, this place is still tasty for the most and I'll be coming whenever I'm in town.

The waiter was kind enough to explain each special on the menu (in English). In addition, my friend was vegetarian, and the place happened to have vegetarian options (a plus!). I dived in and ordered a terrine for starters. I have no clue what kind of meat was used, but it was like pâté (thick and meaty), and studded with peppercorns. Interesting taste- not sure what to make of it. Duck confit (duck leg) for my main dish. The skin was crackling and crispy, only to be ripped apart (by yours truly) to unearth the most tender and juiciest meat my mouth has ever touched upon. But it was the profiteroles that nearly killed me. Essentially, it was an ice cream sundae wrapped in tender, flaky pastry and drenched in thick, decadent fudge. That bowled me over; after that, I was finished. Overall, L'Encrier is a solid place to try out "traditional French food," without having to bust your wallet (although it did nearly bust my gut). Especially in good company, you will have a good time.

I only speak a little French and he said he only spoke a little English. We smiled at each other and it worked out great. A very welcoming environment. Le Refuge des Moines did not disappoint. We share an entree of Camembert roti au lait cru miel et thym (roasted Camambert with honey and thyme). A superb start to the meal. For the plat selection, I had the market fish selection for the day. A dorado served with rice. It was more than pleased with it. My wife got the veal with candied shallots and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. For dessert my wife got the creme brûlée and I got the millefeuille. Both were delicious. This restaurant is noted for their wine and assistance with wine pairing. We let the owner select the wine for the meal. His selection was perfect. I think it's helpful to learn and practice at least a few elementary French phrases. Nothing too complex. I did Babble for a month prior to going to France. Always start with "bonjour" or an appropriate greeting. Maybe learn to say, "Je voudrais..." which is "I would like." Also remember that Europeans generally, and the French in particular, do not rush through meals. Relax. Just let the meal and the experience surround you. Sip an aperitif and smile at your partner.

This was a really cheap piece of meat. So I pointed out that this was really bad. The waitress did not even bother to make an excuse. She just said, do you still want your friends dessert? And we said yes and thought at least they were going to replace the bad main course with at least 2 desserts. But NO! When we went down to pay we still had to pay the full price even though she saw that almost all of the meat was still on the plate. She started instead to defend her self and said that I should not have touched the meat, then she would be able to replace us. But how do you know something is bad if you don't taste it. I told her that the meat was really bad. Then the waitress told us -Leave and never come back again!!! Talk about bad customer services. And don't worry we will never come back to someone that treat your customers like this. We would have given this a higher rate if not for the incident with the meat and the waitress arrogance. Now we would like to give this restaurant 0 stars, but I guess it's not possible. Paris have so many great restaurants so if possible try to avoid this rock bottom place.
