We were looking for a Nice Early Meal. Came in for an early dinner, about 4pm . Not busy, got seated right away also, drink order taken immediately:) My Hubby ordered a Mark West Pinot Noir . I took a sniff - smelt divine. I ordered Ecco Domani - Pinot Grigio . Nice a light ! We ordered the salad ( which comes with our meals ) Their salad and bread are so delicious! Hubby ordered Beef Raviolis w/ Meat sauce and an Italian sausage . I tasted his meal - great sauce ! I ordered the Braised Short Rib - so Tender ! The sauce was absolutely perfect . It had lots of mushrooms and onions . The potatoes were good and the broccoli was cooked perfectly . We have always enjoyed the ambience here and the Italian music was a nice addition to our dinner . I always enjoy eating dinner at Strings , tonight was a little off !!! It took quite a while to get our drink order , the salad was delicious as always I ordered chicken Parmesan with Alfredo pasta I've ordered this many times tonight's portion size was actually embarrassing. How small it was. The plate was half empty. I don't think that plate should have left the kitchen!!! I even mentioned it to the waitress plus it was not as good as it's been in the past! read more

My friend and I went on the Wednesday "all you can eat pasta night" that comes with soup or salad and bread, plus your choice of pasta and sauce combo (added proteins are an extra cost). Upon arrival the restaurant smelled amazing and the staff was friendly. It was not busy, surprisingly since it was 6pm. They needed to update their specials sign because it was actually March 4th when we went and it said February. I have dietary restrictions and the staff was EXTREMELY ACCOMMODATING and reassuring that my food would be prepared accordingly. I was surprised that they never mentioned the all you can eat pasta special, as it is so heavily advertised on their socials and our table did not have the special menu on it to see the options. We ended up having to ask our waitress about it and she grabbed the special menu from another table for us. The staff was able to make my bread without any butter or oil that usually comes on the normal bread and their bread was so soft, pillowy and delicious! I could have eaten the whole basket! We opted for the all you could eat special and I ordered the minestrone soup and my waitress (Tiffany) did a great job of being able to just serve me a bowl without pasta shells in it. The soup was okay. It lacked in flavor a bit and was lukewarm at best. But I ate it all. My friend got the salad and she said it was okay. They didn't offer any refills on my soup, but I'm not sure if the "all you can eat" was just for the pasta or if the soup/salad was included. The kitchen and waitress did an EXCELLENT job in preparing my entree per my restrictions. I got the zoodles ($2.98 up charge and very skimpy on the portions) with just steamed mushrooms, zucchini slices and broccoli. I asked for the marinara on the side so I could control the amount of pasta sauce. That was perfect. My food came out exactly as I wanted it, but it was also lukewarm at best. I ate all of my dinner and was never asked if I wanted another bowl. We had told our waitress at the beginning that that was the special we wanted, so I'm not sure why they didn't offer a refill on my dish? Granted, I could have asked, but my friend got the fettuccine alfredo and only ate half. She said it was good, but would order it with a protein next time just so it felt like more of a complete dish. I would have gotten another serving of my dinner, but didn't want to eat alone. Overall the food was delicious and the staff was very friendly. The restaurant itself was clean, beautifully decorated and very bright. It was dark outside but felt like the middle of the day inside with how bright it was. I would go back and hope for my food to be warmer, but that's my only complaint. Modesto definitely needs to show up and support these family owned businesses! read more

The ambience was as we remembered, really nice spot for lunch, dinner, great covered patio area for events... the service was great the food delicious! As in my photos, you can see we ordered the bruchette, salad, rolls, spaghetti and one very large meat 'a' ball :)) I had the seafood stew, which in my previous review remarked it was the BEST seafood stew/entree of anywhere else I've ever been, from Seattle to SF to Vegas etc... even in Canada... I love seafood but many times you will order it and regret it because the seafood is overcooked and rubbery... nothing worse than eating chewy seafood... THIS was Succulent, soooo good, I was drooling just thinking about it now... I wish I could order a big pot of the sauce..(or get the secret ingredients for the sauce ;)) ... ) We really loved the food... service was great too... very prompt... I also did a takeout order for a calzonne... it had cheese rolled into the crust... my guy and I shared it for dinner, it was Very Large...delicious... and still only eating a half of the calzonne...I was stuffed.. It's been several years since we have been to Strings and tonigh's horrific experience reaffirmed why we stayed away. The service SSSUUUCCCKKKEEEDDD. I orderede a special with angel hair pasta. It came with penne. The Wife was dying for hot Italian food and ordered the ravioli. We waited. And waited. And waited. Our server never came to check on us. Probably because he was too busy watching the World Cup. "What was the score, Andy?!?" (More on that later.) The Wife had to call over a bus boy and asked for the manager. When we were told the manager wasn't there, he said he would send over the acting manager. In the meantime, I joked with The Wife, "Watch, the manager be our server." And lo and behold it was! Fate or trgedy??? The Wife laid into him. Do you know what we ordered? He completely forgot about her raviolos and wasn't apologetic. When she said he got my angel hair pasta wrong, he was quick to respond that he fixed it. No apologies. No attempt to mollify us. No nothing. No attempt to make things right for his screw up and for our inconvenience. She said she timed him watching soccer and when she asked for the score, he was about to tell when I interrupted and said we realy don't care. Soccer Over Supper! When the bill came, I was 100% ready to do something I have never done before : leave no tip. But, The Wife said I needed to leave something because they share it with the cook. Yes, Andy, I am the $5.00 dollar tipper. On top of everything, no attempt to apologize. No attempt to ask The Wife if she still wanted the raviolis. No taking something off the bill or a dessert on the house. Just, in the immortal words of ER doctors, "Treat'em and street 'em"! Thank you, Andy. We hired Strings for a celebration of life and not only was the food amazing they went over and above what was expected and agreed upon to help this event run smoothly. Out of town guests were pleasantly surprised that the food was good and many regulars were excited to see Strings there and knew they were in for good eating. There's been a change in the chefs. The food is terrible. I ordered Chicken Piccata, the chicken was over cooked and was coated with uncooked flour. Chicken Piccata is not to be breaded, it is a sautéed dish with a butter lemon and caper sauce. When I told the manager I did not like it, she said "Oh" "I"ll tell the kitchen" , no offer of discounting the meal, very disappointed in this less than satisfactory response. I was so looking forward to a delicious meal at Strings. My wife and I have always enjoyed the salads at Strings. We went on a rather slow Saturday evening. We were seated immediately and our drinks orders were taken. We decided on the soup and salad. The salad was brought out extremely quickly. We gave the salad and good mixing and dug in. However we were both extremely disappointed in the salad. There was little to no flavor in the dressing. A few minutes later the waiter brought us our Minestrone soup, which was also flavorless! The best part of the meal was the bread which was warm and fresh. I don't know what happened, I always enjoyed the flavor and the freshness of Strings, hopefully it was an off night for the kitchen staff. The wait staff was excellent however. read more

I have been going to Strings on Oakdale Rd. off and on for as long as they have been here in Modesto. The food has always been good, and over the years, I have noticed that the wait staff, which was always a pleasure to work with, have gotten even better. A few months ago, our local Shriner's group took to having "Ladies Night Out" at this Strings. If I could give this place negative stars I would. My husband and I went for the first time for a dinner party. The food was absolutely awful. Sea food was fishy. Chicken was dry and under seasoned. They are understaffed when it came to this event. My husband ordered sea food pasta the scallops seemed like they were boiled; not a single sear mark on them. My salmon was not seasoned and very fishy. I will never go back. I don't even know how people go here. I could keep going but I won't. Just find a new place to eat. read more

Just right for date night. This location recommended, and I feel they delivered a nice experience. All the staff are very helpful, and I may have had each one touch the table over the night. Dinners come with choice of salads or soup. Paired with house-made focaccia bread. The single salad was more than enough to share, and they are all hand tossed to perfection. It is not their fault I am a Caesar salad snob, if they added a touch of anchovies to their dressing it would be fire! I had the Lasagna Pastry, it paired with the two sauces. The insides were layered and put together very well. It did not last long, but was a perfect amount of food. The second plate was the balsamic salmon.
