This is a bit of a tough review to write. As I fully understand that fishing can be hit or miss, but it's a tough pill to swallow that next to nothing is caught between 13 people over the course of 6 hours. In total there were 6 keepable fish caught, and maybe another 4 or 5 that had to be thrown back. There were zero sport fish caught. Me and one other person in my party ended up catching 1 fish each. But man were they the two most expensive fish I've ever paid for (as the cost for the trip was nearly $300 a person). The ship was very clean, and drinks and snacks were included, which I hadn't expected. They also provided sunscreen, though I'd brought my own they stated spray on sunscreen wasn't allowed. Which they really should have advertised so I didn't waste my money. The crew was also very friendly and helpful (though when catching fish they really didn't provide an opportunity to get pictures with them. They very quickly took the fish off the hook and put it in a bucket) This was unfortunately a one timer for me. I'm glad I did it though read more

Went out on 12/6/24 and we had 16 guests on the boat. I would 100% go out again with this crew on my next trip to Maui. They have been operating in Maui for a long time and know where the fish are. Everyone is friendly and passionate about fishing. The crew hustled the entire trip and did an awesome job cleaning the fish we caught. They can improve by letting everyone know it's not a deep sea fishing trip and just keep it real when advertising with local concierge services hyping them up, because you fish with 20lb test line and troll most of the day in a 4hr trip you'd have a better experience with some locals in the area instead of wasting hundreds of dollars on this boat, the fish you will catch would be smaller than your hand so I recommend this boat for children and 1st timers. But they have an awesome experienced crew though! read more

We watched as our crew silently cut and kept the best cuts for themselves... They gave all paying customers tail slices. It really was a bait and switch to realize they would keep the best pieces of the fish. Your tourists pay a lot to go out and sample fresh local fish on these charters. It's not just about the fishing activity for tourist passengers. The local crew will be selling or eating the best pieces themselves tonight which likely happens every morning with any big catch... if you are local you can easily get one tomorrow. All your out of town customers paid for novelty of sampling their catch. Not cool to withhold sharing that fresh taste with people who paid you for the experience. The fisherman happens to be experienced, funny, and they tracked local fishing spots to help us get a good catch. This could easy be a five star if they just let the customers eat the fish. read more

About the only thing pleasant were the 3 crew members. Six hours of trolling and nothing. Several kids on board bored to death, a seasick mom, and no attempt by the captain to change things up. For my 12 year old grandson, the company should have recommended something more appropriate. read more

The process was smooth and well communicated. As my first charter this was simple. The deck hands were helpful also. We did deep sea fishing because we didn't want to assume we would be only sport fishing hoping for a big one. We caught some small blue stripe snapper. It was fun to catch but is an invasive species. We didn't eat it. It was fun and I'm happy that I went with strike zone. They did catch one sport fish (shark) and they called out a kids number to reel it in. After a 30 min fight most got a short video of the shark and it was cut free. read more

Went out on the strike zone for deep sea fishing and it was totally not what I expected. First of all no light breakfast just chips granola bars water and sodas which is more than most sporting boats offer. Second it said deep sea fishing. Well we trolled to our destination and trolled back. That was it as far as deep sea fishing. The rest of the day was along close to the shoreline bottom fishing for pan size fish at about 4 or five different locations. 16 people on the boat no more than 8 to 10 fish caught. If you are an experienced fisherman this combo fishing trip NOT for you. I brought my nice travel jigging/slow pitch with lures & jigs they did not let me use it because it would be "unfair" to the rest of the tourist on board and "you can't use yours because it had braided line". However, the deckhands we using rods with braided line. The boat trolled for pelagics going & coming back in but we bottom fished a majority of the time using there basic old school penn senators with mono using tiny hooked with tiny 1-2" piece of cut squid bait. The bottom fish we were targeting we an invasive yellow snapper that did not even get over 12". Their website says sandwiches/lunch will be provided but all they had were granola bars & chips. Lol Also, their website says it's free parking but when you get there you are informed that you have to pay for parking. I have been on many charters but this was disappointing. read more

It was a rough fishing day and the captain did everything he could to try and find fish. We had a wonderful boat ride all over the ocean, but we didn't catch many fish. The wife and I went on a 4 hour trip out of Maui, Capt of the vessel was a super energetic polite and super helpful. His crew Erik and Derick help put us on reef fish. We started out trolling for big game fish then went to the reef to fish for reef fish. Although the day was a little slow, we all had some nice strikes and the wife caught two fish. Misleading advertising and unprofessional crew. For sport fishing you have to share a chance among 20 other people to reel in any bites. Do not recommend this charter if you actually want to reel sport fish in yourself. Bottom fishing was also a bust - they use cut up dead bait instead of live bait, and drifted over approved drop areas in a manner of minutes. Two fish were caught among the 20 people fishing. read more

My wife took me out fishing for my birthday and we were the only girls on the boat. No matter, the crew were outstanding and they explained everything so well. Since we had never been out fishing in Maui waters all the knowledge they shared was needed. It was a beautiful day and when bottom fishing the captain came out and helped with people who were catching. Taking the fish off the hook and suggesting things. They had music playing and good vibes through the whole trip. When we had to go back to the harbor they took your catch and let you photo them then filet them for you. Once docked they did the same to the bigger fish caught and divide it up for the groups. Definitely will use them again! read more

Had a lot of fun yesterday fishing with my dad on our first trip to Maui. Picked this one because at lest you'll catch some fish doing some bottom fishing. The cool thing is they troll to and from the fishing spot so there is a chance you'll hook a Sportfishing. Unfortunately it didn't happen but that's ok. Between us we caught 10 fish and the boat if 16 caught over 50! The crew was awesome, funny, and very organized. I'd recommend this for sure. TIP: no bananas before or on the boat. read more

Beware. You park in the lot to go fishing and don't pay the parking fee your car is towed and held hostage. This is a known problem by the locals as I found out talking to the citizens patrol unit that came to our rescue. The captain and guys running the fishing tour should have made sure all their paying customers who parked in the lot had paid. We were here 3 years ago on a fishing charter and had no problem. Times have changed and tourists are not welcome. read more

My dad used to go on this excursion with my son/son and daughter and now my two went alone. They had a wonderful time. The crew is pleasant, helpful and makes a safe environment for all. Sometimes you get big fish and sometimes you don't. You have to go in knowing you are going to enjoy your time on their boat regardless. Pro: from booking to arriving, the process was smooth; When they noticed my dad didn't catch any fish, they shared with us some fish that other passengers caught, which is very nice of them! Bucket list item to Catch massive Mahi Mahi...CHECK! Spent my birthday on a morning fishing charter with Strike Zone. Ended up getting lucky and pulled in a Mahi Mahi that was as big as me! Never fished for the big stuff before so this truely was a once in a lifetime experience I got to have...even on my birthday! The crew is incredible and really helped when I struggled with this fish. Trolled 2 hours out, 2 hours bottom fishing and 2 hours trolling back. The boat caught 2 mahi mahi, 1 baracuda and 1 tuna. Bottom fishing successful with my husband And I catching 12 snapper. Brought a huge haul of fish back that we froze and successfully brought to the mainland. Can't tell you how much I LOVED the crew! We will go with them everytime we go. While the BF and I are both avid fishermen (fisher-people?), this was our first trip deep sea fishing. We were not disappointed at all & would do it again in a heart beat! Fo what we got and how hard the crew worked, the cost of the trip was minimal. The crew was informative, handsome, funny and worked like crazy to insure we all had a blast. Our Captain was Junior and his 1st Mate was Jordan. They rocked. Some of the other reviewers were disappointed because their trips were canceled at the last minute. We were aware that this could happen, if enough people didn't sign up. But listen, you have to consider the expense and liability etc. that the owner incurs with each trip - there just needs to be a certain amount of profit to make it worthwhile. You're on vacation. Awesome day on the water with Captain Jay and hardworking crew. The Strikezone is a comfortable, well appointed vessel with a clean restroom, fighting chair, fish finder and modern equipment. Caught a couple of smaller reef fishes on the bottom fishing segment of our tour, Ta'au and Mempachi. Finished the day off strong with a beautiful Kamanu. Crew were constantly in motion freeing snags, making sure everyone had fresh bait and prepared a nice lunch for everyone on board. I missed the boat and lost $300. Part of this was certainly my fault. But much of it was the fault of the company, for emails that were badly designed and for leaving the dock before the departure time.* Some background: After booking over the phone, they sent me a text and email confirmation. Both said 7:00AM**, without any indication that this was a departure time. Later in the email, in a visually clear area, there was a section that indicated that 7:00AM was a departure time. Further down, in a less visually clear area, there was a note that check-in time was 6:30AM. With that background out of the way, I have to admit that I messed up. I didn't see the section in the body that said 6:30AM check in and I assumed that the boat would probably depart around 7:05 or 7:10. However, even though I am partially at fault, I also think the company is partially at fault for a couple of reasons: 1. From a user design perspective, the email and texts were badly designed. Realistically, customers often skim over emails, and so it's the company's responsibility to make the important things clear and visually apparent. 2. I still arrived at 6:58, believing that I still have about 10 minutes. But the boat had already left, i.e. before the 7AM departure time.* Perhaps others may disagree, but I think that leaving exactly on time -- let alone 2 minutes before departure time -- is overly strict for this type of business. If I were running a leisure sport fishing business, where customers are spending hundred of dollars and arriving at locations that they might not be familiar with, I would probably give a few minutes of buffer time as a reasonable courtesy. * They dispute this, but I am quite confident I arrived 2 minutes before departure time. ** To be fair to them, the top of the email was a calendar panel automatically inserted by Gmail indicating 7AM as the event time. However, when I pointed this out to the company, they didn't show very much interest in making the email clearer to compensate. read more

Today was my very first time deep sea fishing and it was AWESOME! I've found my new favorite thing to do. The crew was Junior, Nick, and Jordan. They were all great; welcoming, knowledgeable, helpful, and lots of fun. I was clueless and clumsy at first, but they helped me feel comfortable with the rod/reel and getting my line in & out of the water. I got to see really pretty fish: mahi mahi, blue line snapper, and cute little trigger fish. I had so much fun, I forgot to take pictures, but I'll share the few that I managed to get. The whole trip was fantastic. Maui is beautiful & Strike Zone is a blast. I highly recommend it. And as for the one bad review on Yelp, I'm sorry dude had a bad experience, but the crew can't make the fish bite. They're not fish whisperers. Duh. read more

Everyone caught fish on our trip today. If you are really into fishing this is by no means a pro charter. It is a leisure activity to do while visiting. The crew was so so, they definitely were not trying to butter up their passengers. We did have to go through VERY rough and windy waters to get to and from our fishing area. I will say if the owner of the boat was around to make the call he would have said not to take us out today. The waters were not the safest conditions. My family wanted to do some sport fishing, and this had the best of both worlds. We had our 9 year old grandaughter along. She was able to help each one us as we did our bottom fishing. She help reel in one that grandpa had caught. I was skunked, but had a great time anyway. On the way back to the harbor, we did snag a Mahi. It was fun watching them reel it in. The crew was fabulous. Very knowledgeable and very helpful. They even provided a sandwich and chips for everyone, and plenty of water. They cleaned all the fish we caught, and divided the Mahi for everyone on the trip. We cooked it up for dinner that evening. Great day was had by all. read more
