I have been in the fitness industry my entire life. Whether it be playing competitive sports,…read morecoaching and training others, or having my own trainer, fitness is a huge part of who I am. Because of my background, I need to work with a trainer who knows their stuff inside and out, one that will push me, and one that understands the fundamentals of exercise physiology and stays away from the hot, hip, and often dangerous trends. JT was all of that and more. I came to JT with a specific goal and only three short weeks to reach it. Three weeks for a fitness program is like a blink of an eye. It is quick. I worked with him twice a week where he pushed me, encouraged me, supported me, and also made sure I left smiling. Within those six sessions, my strength increased exponentially, my stamina improved, and my mental game took huge strides forward (never thought I would be able to do 200 pushups in a day). Each time I came to train with JT, the studio was clean and he was there ready to go. He never wasted time, and he never stalled while coaching me through the workout. He was organized, thorough, methodical, and prepared. I looked forward to my sessions all week. On the in between days, JT would check in with me to see how I was feeling and how my workouts were going. His love for what he does and excitement for my progress always came through the messages. JT is not a good trainer. He's not even a great trainer. JT IS ONE OF THE BEST AND MOST PROFESSIONAL TRAINERS I HAVE EVER WORKED WITH IN MY ENTIRE FITNESS CAREER. Do yourself a favor and visit Jake and JT. You'll thank yourself after.

I am now stronger than I have ever been in my life and I am grateful to her each time pick up my baby, or carry my toddler on my back. I am back to doing the activates I enjoy without worrying about getting hurt. She is very knowledgeable, her classes are always different and fun and she has a great energy. The expense was a lot for me, and I considered other options. But her expertise, the accountability, and the personalized sessions were 100% worth it. The North Bay has gained a treasure!

When I first started working out with Parand, I had exercised sporadically over the years but nothing really stuck. My scheduled work-outs with her helped me get into the best shape of my life and begin to incorporate fitness as a regular and ongoing habit. Over this time, I also lost about 20 pounds and significantly increased my overall strength and flexibility. In the beginning, I took private classes as honestly I felt too uncoordinated and out of shape to work out in front of other people. Over time, I then graduated to her group classes. Both formats I enjoyed and found helpful. Parand has a wide repertoire of workouts, and it's always interesting. Parand is also just a lovely human being. It was always great to catch up with her during my classes. If you are trying to find new ways to be active, I really recommend starting with Parand as a first step.

Diagnosed four years ago, I changed my diet and supplements and stepped up my exercise with walking and hiking. I was determined to turn my bone density around without medication. But two years into it, another DEXA scan and I wasn't doing enough, my osteoporosis got worse. I went to UFIT about 11 months ago, 2x a week, in addition to my walking, hiking, and nutrition refinement. I just got a new bone scan and my bone density is in the osteopenia range, not osteoporosis! This is a big win and I plan to keep progressing. My doctors now say no need for medication now. I highly recommend UFIT's program. Nina is great, as well as the other trainers. Their training is highly specialized, I have looked at other resources. Give Randy a call!

As a younger man, I had always considered resistance training to be more closely related to narcissism rather than overall health. However, that all began to change when my wife started going to Ultimate Fitness in Mill Valley and encouraged by her progress, I decided to give it a try. I had "resisted" at first, feeling that my 20-year yoga practice and two-mile daily walk were sufficient to keep me in shape. However, I am now a true believer in proprietor Randy Green's 30-minute, twice weekly resistance training regimen at Ultimate Fitness on Miller Avenue. With the support and encouragement of Randy and my personal trainer, Victoria, the results speak for themselves. Despite numerous breaks for vacations, COVID-19, various medical setbacks, including the diagnosis and treatment for an extremely rare blood cancer and a total hip replacement, I'm much stronger and healthier at 78 than I was at 69. I'm lifting more than twice what I was on all the 12 resistance exercises I do; for example going from bicep curls with 10-pound dumbbells to 20 pounders. I've gone from weighing 180 pounds on my 6-foot frame to 163 pounds with 18% body fat, and I no longer feel tired all of the time. I can do 20 push-ups but I'm still working on that elusive pull-up; gonna nail that sucker before I turn 80 dag nab it! So if you have been wondering about doing something like this but have been "resistant" yourself, give Randy a call (415-380-8033). I strongly encourage you to give it a try; you won't be disappointed by the results.

If you force people to sign up for a monthly membership on an app at least give them the ability to cancel the next month on the app. Fixing people to call someone is a shady practice (hoping people forget so you can get extra payments). This is why your classes rarely have more than 4 people in them.

We toured the facility, and although nice: it's very dark and small. It was very expensive for the monthly offerings (originally 250+) and we were told that the upstairs communal space (very dark, too) was not meant to be worked on more than 1-2 hours a day. Seems like a big waste of space. I ended up taking some yoga classes through class pass. Jeremy's classes were amazing, all others were sub par. The ladies at the reception barely greeted me each time I came in. Then The Portal abruptly canceled use of class pass and now offer a 180 monthly yoga option for a pack of classes. The yoga space is small and holds about 15-20 people max. If you want to use their wellness services you cannot pay a la cart to do something any longer, and have to apply join for $450 a month (!!!) to have access these amenities. The 2 cold plunges and saunas are single use and not communal. Really bad design choice. The concept was a great one, but reality of the space and the functionality is not - the price does not make any sense. This is more than you'd pay for a very very high end gym. Why not offer any communal wellness spaces besides the tiny yoga space? The place has almost a cult-y vibe to it, and is astronomically priced for the size. The vibe does not feel inclusionary at all. Huge bummer all around.
