The chilaquiles are the bomb. Massive portion so be prepared to share. Quite honestly, everything is good here.

Went here for brunch and loved it! The cafe is really cute with mostly table and chairs seating vs. booth seating. Our server was really nice and attentive, even offering to take a picture for us. Everything we ordered tasted so good! Our table had the "Other Side", the "North Side", and the "Hunter"/. Everyone loved their meal. I also had the americano with oat milk and a flavored syrup that I loved. Their americano has 4 shots of espresso for those that must be mindful of their caffeine intake.

We usually head to Stray Hen Cafe in Elmhurst for their great breakfast and coffee--but today we decided to stop in for lunch, and we are happy we did. Tried the Double Cheeseburger and it was phenomenal! Two perfectly grilled patties, melted cheese, raw onion, and mustard on a soft toasted bun -- every bite was juicy and packed with flavor. Friendly service, cozy café vibe, and clearly a lunch menu worth exploring. Whether you're a regular breakfast-goer or just passing through Elmhurst, this spot deserves a visit any time of day.

Stopped here on a Saturday morning. Would have been a 30 minute wait for inside but we were able to sit outside right away. Our group ordered a variety of skillets that were tasty and generous portions. The highlight was really a delicious hot latte. Good breakfast spot!

Outside sitting at Stray Hen!!!! Perfect morning for breakfast outside!!!!

The food is always amazing, though we mostly go for breakfast or brunch. The service is always on point, the waiters are always pleasant and attentive.

Look at how thick these pancakes are and they were fully cooked throughout

My friend and I met here at 10 on a Sunday morning, it was both of our first time here. They do not accept reservations but your name can be added to the wait list. We were initially told the wait would be 25 minutes but we waited less than 10 minutes. The hostesses were so nice and sweet. The restaurant was very busy and we were seated at table for two near the door. The dining room is small but very cute. You know how much I love a mimosa or expresso martini when I'm dining out for breakfast but alas, alcohol is not served in Elmhurst until 11am on Sundays. Kathleen and I both ordered skillets, she made her own with hash browns and I got the un-kosher one with seasoned diced potatoes. Both were delicious, now let's get into my side of pancakes. I am a bit of a pancake snob and the quality of pancakes will make or break my entire experience ‍. The golden brown pancakes were so thick and fluffy that I was surprised that they were cooked all the way through with no wet batter in the middle. They tasted good and I was pleased. I played it safe by ordering a skillet but the next time, I plan to order something different as the French toast that I saw someone had ordered looked good and some items on the menu piqued my interest too.

My family and I came here for my mother in law's birthday. I didn't know what to expect as the menu had a lot of great options. The environment was very peaceful and decor and lighting set a positive mood for a celebration. Our server was very attentive, positive, and interactive! I ordered the mimosa flight which was tasty. I also had the apple churros French toast which was a bit sweet but I enjoyed it. I wasn't pleased with the caramelized apples with the skin still on it. Overall, i trulu enjoyed my first experience here and would definitely come back to try more options if I am around the area again!

Stopped for lunch. Hostess was a bit dour, but waitstaff was delightful and upbeat. Ordered the salmon salad - great big salad with lots of tasty bits. Many breakfast items around me looked fantastic as well. If I'm ever in Elmhurst again, I'll go back.

This place makes a pretty good omelette with lots of toppings. The thing I will ding them on though is the service. They took forever to get us our checks or our drinks. The ambiance was ok but way too crowded and it's a bit loud inside.

Great spot! Love that this place has unique and healthy menu options. It's a bit pricy but it kind of fits the typical range for the area. Service was great and restaurant was clean. The food came out timely and fresh. I would come back for sure!

The waitress was very friendly and attentive to our needs. Although the restaurant was decently full, our food and drinks came out quickly. They have a decent-sized drink menu with regular drip coffee or lattes with various syrup flavors. My favorite thing on the menu (from their special fall menu) was the fried green tomato sliders and the potato medley (regular & sweet potatoes) that came with it. This place seems better suited for smaller parties.

Let me start by saying that we're a huge fans of small businesses and want to see them succeed…read more I've also worked in plenty of restaurants and coffee shops in my day. Definitely not trying to be a hater. My friend and I were on our way home from Chicago, looked up some bakeries along our route. We stopped here to get some goodies to take home to family, and to snack and have a coffee while we drove 6 hours. My friend ordered: white chocolate coconut latte, 2 donut holes, a strawberry, a salted caramel, and a pink velvet cupcake. I ordered: chocolate pretzel iced latte, a big chocolate chip cookie, tropical fruit (?) danish, coconut, pink velvet, and French silk cupcakes. I'd say between the two of us we probably spent $60+? Walking in the shop is adorable and colorful, an employee had a brightly colored tie dye shirt on and we said hello to them first, commented on how much we liked their shirt, and barely got a response back, let alone a greeting. The employee at the counter wasn't rude but definitely not overly eager to greet or offer up information. Questions were answered when we asked, that was it. When I received my iced latte I asked if they had any straws and just got a head shake in response. Totally fine with no straw, but my friend found a stir stick for me, which was honestly the main reason I wanted a straw so I could stir up what was clearly sitting on the bottom of the cup. Lattes were fine. We tried the chocolate chip cookie in the car and the texture was good, crispier on the edges and the middle was chewy enough. But it tasted very bland, so we didn't finish it. A little while later we decided to try the donut holes, they had good flavor but they were so dry and crumbly, presumably because they were sitting out in the open air, who knows for how long. Also didn't finish those. Even later we decided to try the salted caramel cupcake because I'd read on the case that they had Swiss meringue buttercream so I was really excited about that, and thought for sure this would be where they would excel. While the flavor of the cake was fine, I wouldn't say it tasted like salted caramel, there was some kind of cream in the middle that was good, again not salty or caramely. But that was the heaviest, most dense cupcake I've ever had, and not in a good way. The buttercream was good, and the caramel drizzle on top did taste salty. My husband was so excited that I was bringing home that tropical fruit danish and the coconut cupcake. We tried the coconut cupcake together and again, it had a lot of actual coconut in the batter, it was dense but also dry. We abandoned the cake and ate buttercream, which was good but not coconutty. So we moved onto the French silk cupcake. This cake had a great texture, light and soft, good flavor, some kind of chocolate mousse in the middle was good too. Again, good buttercream, but the top had a bunch of dry, flavorless pie crust chunks all over it. I understand that it was supposed to mimic a French silk pie, but it was such a good cake without the crust chunks. My husband had his pastry today (next day) and though dry he said the middle was good, other than the pineapple in the middle he couldn't taste any other flavor. We tried the pink velvet after dinner tonight and again with the super heavy and dense cake texture, no real flavor, but the cream cheese frosting was yummy. I cannot say how the other cupcakes were, as my friend was so disappointed in the one we shared and the report we gave her about the ones we tried, that she hasn't eaten them. Ultimately the French silk one was the only item that was eaten completely. Keep making that buttercream, it was the best part of everything we bought. I sincerely hope your employees weren't having a hard day, I try to be understanding that you never know what someone is going through, but that's the only reason I can think of for them to be so completely disinterested in helping or talking to paying/tipping/polite customers.

I'd go so far as to say it's the best breakfast sandwich in Elmhurst. I would order it without the greens since I personally don't like how soggy they get on the sandwich. Tried the dirty chai for the first time and dare I say it may be better than a certain local coffee shop's. I do think $22 for a sandwich and coffee is a bit expensive, but I'm always very satisfied with my meal. It does come with a large side of home fries, but I usually end up not eating them, so I'd love to see more side options to choose from. Also had cupcakes catered a few months back including some gluten free options and they were all a big hit. Definitely on the expensive side, but they were good quality and absolutely devoured. The environment is always welcoming and open plus the staff are very kind.
