We walked in on a Saturday night and waited about 10 minutes before a waitress acknowledged us we had approached her, When I asked how long the wait would be, she told us 15 minutes. After waiting over 25 minutes, I asked again and was met with an attitude--she repeatedly said, "You need to wait," without providing any timeframe. Another waiter eventually stepped in and seated us in the bar area. While we were waiting, two other parties walked in and never received a wait time or any type of customer service at all. After standing around visibly confused and frustrated, both parties eventually walked out. This should be a serious concern, as it was clear the restaurant was understaffed and actively losing business. I asked if the bar was open seating and was told only the bar top was available, not the tables. However, while we were still waiting, we watched other guests walk in, get seated, and be served, which added to the frustration and confusion. Trying to still enjoy our night, we ordered salads, pizza, drinks, a bacon cheeseburger for my son, and wings. The wings came out quickly, and the pizza, salad, and drinks followed. However, my son's cheeseburger never arrived. The server later admitted he forgot to put it into the system and only entered it after we asked. My son didn't receive his food until we were almost finished and ready to leave. To make matters worse, we realized while eating that the chicken wings were undercooked and still raw. This is a serious health concern--especially since I am pregnant, but truly for anyone. My son later started feeling sick, and I strongly believe it was due to the undercooked chicken. I pass by this place often and was really excited to try it, but the rude service, disorganization, and major food safety issue were extremely disappointing. This was our first visit and will absolutely be our last.

This is the time ordered 4:40pm.

What's that saying about fool me once once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I personally like too give local pizza places, The benefit of the doubt. I live in the area and sometimes it just gets so tired.I don't want to cook. Overall, the pizza here is quite satisfactory, but the service consistently falls short of expectations. It seems that on many occasions, orders are delayed, and there are frequent inaccuracies, such as missing items, incorrect toppings, or complete order mix-ups. I've given them multiple chances, but the pattern hasn't changed. I truly hope the owners address the workflow and timing because this place could be great with more attention to detail. I would like to share an example with you, and I can even illustrate what occurred. I placed an online order for a pizza, and I was provided with a pickup time. However, on every occasion, when I arrive at the establishment past the designated pickup time, the pizza is consistently not yet prepared. What is a person supposed to do when they're tired and hungry and prefer to order food, and they try to pick it up, and it's not ready? Find a new pizza Place. Nice knowing you Straw hat!

A Total Win: Great Food, Fun Atmosphere, Friendly Staff! We hosted a surprise 60th birthday bash for my mother-in-law, and everyone enjoyed it! From the moment we walked in, the welcoming vibe and friendly staff made us feel right at home. They had the side area clean and ready for us to lightly decorate ahead of my MIL arriving, and were very helpful with the little asks of scissors and tape. We settled in by one of their many TVs--perfect for catching a game--and the attentive service truly stood out. The menu is impressively broad, ranging from signature pizzas to indulgent sandwiches, wings, salads and more. Their party packs provides the right amount of food depending on your group size. We ordered the 20 pack and a few other items, their buffalo wings are so good, (crispy & a little spice), I can eat a whole order on my own! Everything tasted amazing and was served with genuine warmth and efficiency. The combination of tasty food, cozy pub-like atmosphere, and great staff. Overall, Straw Hat Pizza in Milpitas delivered on every front--delicious food, a welcoming vibe, attentive service, and an awesome menu selection. I can't wait to return and try more--highly recommended!

Their Tuesday deals are unbeatable. You get half off all pizzas all day. Plus if you come during 3pm-6pm you can double dip on the happy hour. I got the 6 piece wings from their happy hour menu and was pleasantly surprised at how good they were. The outside was nice and crispy with a juicy inside and just enough seasoning to make it not too salty. I enjoy how they allow you do half pizzas with no additional cost so you can try multiple pizzas for the price of 1. All of the staff here are super friendly and inviting. They really know how to ensure you you are well taken care of

Service , food and ambience were amazing , very clean place .I'm impressed with their people. Jenny was remarkably helpful and displayed kindness, periodically checking to ensure we were well taken care of. Keep up the good work.

First I would like to say the new management is very good at customer service and taking care of customers on lunch , Raul is the man , coworker and I came in on a Tuesday witch is 50% off pizza day , so if your in Milpitas on a Tuesday , come by and check out this spot I got a small pepperoni black olive and my coworker got a small half combo and half Hawaiian , both came out in 10 minutes and was perfect

Great quality food and staff was very nice ! We went at opening so it was quiet looks like a great place to catch a sports game!

3.5 stars Straw Hat Pizza is where Chilis used to be in Milpitas. Decent restaurant & sports bar, but if I were in the area & wanted to go to a sports bar I would just go to Big Al's. Big Al's is just down the street (across the freeway) and their TVs are massive. Anyway I came here tonight with a few friends. The Warriors game was on. Their draft beer is also a little expensive ($9); I could just go to Big Al's and it'd be a few dollars cheaper. I tried my friend's pizza and it wasn't bad (the chicken pizza), but nothing too special. This is just my opinion. Decent place but but don't think I'd return.

Honestly, enjoyed my experience at Straw Hat yesterday for the play off game! Met up with my parents and we relaxed in a spacious, not too hectic, restaurant space. It's pretty casual, but at the same time festive in sports related decore and still gave off a pub like atmosphere, BUT MAKE IT KID FRIENDLY. There is a section of the restaurant with a pick up/to go entrance and kids mini arcade. Plenty of seating, a plethora of tvs to watch the games on, and a full bar. Service is quick and run solely at the time by one man. Our waiter was pretty awesome and we of course had to give him more than a 15% tip. Food isn't the best American food, but the prices and taste were good enough. Portions were a little small, but we did leave full and happy at the end of the game! Will probably visit again during the summer!

The Pizza here is great!! I've been patiently waiting to bring my people here and it did not disappoint. The staff was friendly, the environment was lively, and service was excellent! They have Tvs all over the place to watch what any game you would like. Definitely a spot to check out if you haven't been here already.

I came here to try the butter chicken pizza and it was some of the best I've had. Super flavorful and yummy! Their service was impeccable. I never felt overlooked, and the servers went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed. The ambiance is wonderful, everyone is super friendly. I would definitely recommend people to come here and try some of the great food!

Visiting Straw Hat this past weekend was nostalgic, as where I grew up it was the local pizza spot offering cheap pies and slices, kiddie rides, cartoons on large screens, and sticker machines. But that was decades ago and in a different city miles away. I'm surprised the chain still exists today, but then again it seems to be almost a totally different pizzeria. The Milpitas restaurant and atmosphere is clean, modern, and inviting, with a bar, plenty of indoor seating, multiple TV's on the wall, and a tiny arcade/game area for kids. We only ordered for takeout, but the customer service upon arrival was excellent, and the worker provided condiments, cheese, peppers, and sides of ranch at no extra cost. We got "The Works" and it was loaded with sauce, cheese, and flavorful toppings, and the crust was nice and crisp at the bottom (though not exactly gourmet, which I wouldn't expect for a chain like this, except it's a bit pricy for what you get). Not quite perfect, but delicious nonetheless. They have a parking lot for convenience, and ordering online was easy, with a 25 minute wait for our pizza to be ready on a Sunday evening.

    Chefs Daughter D.

I have never been inside a Straw Hat everl. Came in on a Sunday afternoon and it was empty. Parking lot had a few vehicles which I didn't mind at all. Plenty of parking as well. Former Chilis restaurant building shares lot with Walgreens, Days inn and the former Big Lots. First impression, it was very well-maintained in the front and you can smell that they really care of the landscaping and cleanliness. Smelling cleaning supplies doesn't bother me because it lets me know practicing cleanliness. Aside from the spacious dining area , Their are lots of TV sets all around and a full bar is available. Dining tables were clean and had no condiments on them... just a very clean, empty table. We waited a little bit to get seated, even though it was empty. We were by the kiosk for maybe five minutes before anybody noticed. When we sat down, we unfolded the menu and found a lot of appetizers as well as pizza, burgers, salads, wings and soups. Ordered 1) jalapeño poppers- I like how the jalapeño were left whole and it was stuffed with cheese. Some places will mince the chopped pepper and cheese then forming into a pepper shape and roll it in breadcrumbs, but I like whole jalapeños with the cheese inside. It came with 6 small peppers with a watery ranch dressing. I believe the peppers were frozen and fried to order. It doesn't feel like it was Restaurant made. At $10,99, it was overpriced for the small sized poppers and quantity. 3/5 $10.99 2) Sunny side burger was grilled to medium rare, as requested. This Burger was simple with added bacon and fried egg. It came with a side of fries and a pickle. The burger was actually pretty good. It had a nice flavor, soft buns, juicy, and the pairing with the egg and bacon made it even more better. Also the fries Were lightly crispy crunchy in the best way possible. I am not a french fry person as I usually like steak fries or crinkle cut fries, but these fries I would not pass up in fact, maybe the next time I return I might just order this burger instead of the pizza. 5/5 $15.99 3) chicken, bacon, ranch pizza in small round plastic tray arrived warm and cut. I believe in eight small pieces. Since it was a small pizza, the slices were like appetizer + sizes. Chicken pieces were very dry. In my opinion. this is my go to Pizza as I avoid the ones with processed, deli meats, such as pepperoni, salami, etc, as much as I can. I have not much to say about it, except it was consumed that day and the next day. But it was just OK. 3/5 $21.99. Overall, it seems like a good meeting place for friends to have a few good appetizers and libations. It would be a good alternative. If big Al's was just not your thing. it kind of gave me that cheers a vibe..

It's like a cross between a western style bbq joint and a middle eastern twist with its meats and food. Turns out, this place is mainly an Afghan restaurant! It's half eatery half a butcher shop for people to come and purchase fresh meats for some home cooking. In fact, I watched a lot of people coming in and ordering meats to go. I ordered their chili lamb kabob which was tender and juicy. It had lots of flavor from the spices but enough to where it wasn't overwhelming. I ordered it on top of a pillow of rice which was fluffy and buttery textured. It was delicious. There are sauce bottles to pair with the meats which is my favorite part. I really liked their white creamy yogurt sauce mixed with their red house chili sauce. It gave my lamb meat so much flavor and some heat. I loved my order and will definitely order two next time. I also want to try their steaks. They take their time grilling their meats so orders can take a short while. It's worth it for sure. No complaints here but I do wish they played some light music in the background for some ambiance. Things can be real quiet in here so it can be awkward dining in. I had the double bacon burger with Swiss cheese and it was delicious. Did not feel heavy, going down and sitting in the stomach like some other burgers do. Obviously as a burger it's not gonna be completely light either, but it had a very nice weight about it. Also, they do not cook an oil, and smash it, so it doesn't have that greasy feel to it. It was not overly spiced, but just the right amount to give it really good flavor. Also got the onion rings, which were very lightweight but thick and very tasty. Probably one of the best onion rings. I've tried. And the best part is that they're not oily like other places. The chocolate brownie shake was really good, and strangely refreshing for a chocolate milkshake that normally would feel heavy. Really nice flavor, not overly sweet, with a really good amount of whipped cream added to it. My girlfriend had the regular burger, which she enjoyed and the cheesy fries, which they gave us a little extra to share. Some reviews think that they taste like "standard fare" fries from other fast food places, whereas we found them to be very tasty. The common denominator is that they make very good food, for an affordable price, not too cheap not too expensive, and they cook it in front of you so it's not instant like you're used to at McDonald's or some other place. But as well worth the wait. Definitely a place to come visit. This was in their Milpitas, CA location.

I ordered a strawberry milkshake and chocolate milkshake, and a side of large chili cheese tots. Service is always slow here and that was expected. But the staff tried to give me a box of fries with melted cheese on top saying that's what I ordered. They even pointed at the receipt that clearly read chili cheese fried TOTS. And finally after some back and forth, they understood fries and tots are not the same. The milkshakes were a disaster. I took a sip of my chocolate shake and it tasted off. I thought maybe it was my gum from before. My kid was sipping the strawberry milkshake and gave several gag faces but said it tasted kinda like strawberry. We ordered our food to go. When we got home, I took a bigger sip of my chocolate shake and it definitely tasted off like cleaning solution. I asked my kid if that's what the weird taste that they mentioned. And sure enough, the strawberry milkshake also tasted like cleaning solution. We dumped both, what a waste. Chili cheese tots and 2 milkshakes costed over $30 and we dumped most of it. The tots were soggy like rushed out of the fryer to give us what we asked for. I don't think I'll be coming back here with the slower than normal service, untrained staff, and possibly contaminated food.

Disappointing First Experience…read more We came in around 7:40 PM, even though the posted closing time is 9:00 PM. It was our first time visiting because we had heard good things and were excited to finally try the food. Unfortunately, the cashier and two other employees told us they were no longer allowing dine-in customers because they were getting ready to close, despite there still being about 40 minutes before the restaurant's posted closing time. We were turned away and never had the opportunity to enjoy a meal. As a business owner in Silicon Valley for decades, I understand that employees need time to clean and prepare for closing. However, if your advertised business hours say you're open until 9:00 PM, customers should reasonably expect to be able to dine in until then or at the very least, until a clearly posted dine-in cutoff time. If the restaurant no longer accepts dine-in customers after 7:40 or 8:00 PM, that policy should be clearly communicated online, on the front door, and in the posted business hours. Otherwise, customers are making the trip expecting the full dining experience only to be turned away. For anyone planning to visit, I'd recommend arriving at least 1-2 hours before closing if you want to dine in. Otherwise, you may not be seated even though the restaurant is technically still open. I hope management reviews this policy because it creates a disappointing first impression and can easily drive away potential returning customers.
