We were immediately greeted and asked about the razor blade thingy and they had them conveniently located right by the checkout register. Next we asked about where we could find packing tape and were told exactly what aisle that was located. There are a lot of things cram packed on the shelves, which is great! You can even find things you didn't know you needed! Such a cute, fun store! Conveniently located on the island, helpful and friendly customer service along with finding what you need are all great reasons to shop at Chalmer's Hardware!

I went in needing a single screw and washer. The young man that tried to help me didn't have the…read moreslightest possible amount of knowledge. I had the screw with me which turned out to be 8mm x 20mm fine thread. He picked up a two inch lag bolt and ask if it would work. thought I was being filmed on Candid Camera. I found a hex head bolt that would work and said I needed a washer. He picked out one obviously too small. I said it was too small and he told me to try it anyway. I put it to the opening and he said, Oh, it's too tight. Then I was sure I was getting punked. I got my item and got out of there. I'm not sure if he was just trying to be that ignorant or not. I won't be back unless abs necessary.

I needed a couple of other items and the young lady radioed an employee at the back of the store who met me as I walked there and showed me the items I needed. I showed up at M&D at exactly 7 PM, which is apparently what time they close Monday through Friday. Instead of turning me away like any other store would do, they told me to come in and asked what I needed help finding. They could have said "no" and hung up, but someone decided to look it up on the tumblers website while I was on hold, and told me that the website sold the tops and I could get one there! It didn't, and when I tried to return it, they stated it was out of the package (which it was) and they couldn't offer one, but the reel was still wrapped and unused (how else would I know if it fit). I understand they don't want opened returns, but I bought it upon the advice of an employee. Go with Amazon. Cheaper, more reliable (if you can believe that) and you can return something that doesn't fit, even when told it would. Or even better, go to a mom and shop hardware store and not a corporate one, although I'm sure ACE would be unhappy with this franchise's failure towards proper customer service considering the circumstances.
