But I have found myself around Port Arthur a few times, and on occasion I get some of the family's food while in the area. Mostly at this H-E-B. It's a little drive from Freeway 73, in an older but safe neighborhood. It's smaller, so that answers your question. Not only is the building smaller, the selection is too, and it feels cramped. So far, I've been able to snag what I needed. The prices are low, too. But I saw no pre-made deli sandwiches, no meat market, few household goods like TP or kitchen supplies. For these, go to Beaumont. Part of the small H-E-B has to do with population. BMT has as many people as the whole area from Nederland to Bridge City, and Port Arthur has a larger and worse ghetto. So this little store is fitting for this area. Bottom line, this H-E-B may be one-stop shopping, but seek out other stores too if you can't find what you need here

I was in recently on my annual trip and needed to stock up on all great Cajun products and meats.. and low and behold.. the revamp of the store was completed. The store front has a new modern face lift that will be bound to survive the next seasons hurricanes. The parking lot lights and area are well lit and open. The overall front area of the store has a great inviting presence. As you enter the store, they have changed the lighting and the walking flow so that you can easily get what you need without clutter and they used clearly posted signs and markings for specials. As to the classic memory of the store, they have kept all of the check out stations just as you have always known them. The baskets as well and the Managers station is still elevated and visible by everyone.. so you know where to find them if you need to. The meat counter area is brightly lit and always providing fresh choice cuts. Overall, the service has improved as well. I simply walked down any aisle and I was always greeted and directed to where I needed to find something. Sometimes, the best stores have the best employees.. and this is a family heritage that covers every generation. Bruce's is a neighborhood staple. It has survived and updated with the times. I am pleased that they finally were able to complete the renovations and stay off the weather of time and be around for future generations.

So not a very good grocery store at all for the Port Arthur area. It's expensive and it's missing various things that I would want. For this reason I rarely come to this Market Basket when I'm in town, but they did have a couple things that we needed when we needed them, so we were grateful about that at least.
