We made a quick visit in to buy some packing tape and one of those razor blade scraper things so you can remove last years vehicle sticker in order to replace it with the new one. We were immediately greeted and asked about the razor blade thingy and they had them conveniently located right by the checkout register. Next we asked about where we could find packing tape and were told exactly what aisle that was located. There are a lot of things cram packed on the shelves, which is great! You can even find things you didn't know you needed! Such a cute, fun store! Service is always wonderful and super friendly atmosphere. My favorite place to go to make copies of keys because they're always super quick. No waiting 10 minutes to get a person to acknowledge you. I'm always in and out in less than 5 minutes, even when they're busy. I love supporting local businesses and they do a great job with their products offered and friendly staff. Most importantly, Their prices are more than reasonable. I would go out of my way to shop with them over the big name stores. read more

There is an older gentleman with a beard who is helpful and kind, but the rest are jerks who come across like they're better than everyone else somehow. I absolutely love these quirky, local hardware stores (Breed and Co, Sunset and Co, Chalmers, Bering) that have glue, mops, paint and artisanal dog toys. Everyone at Chalmers is so friendly and they have pretty much everything. So much fun to look through the merchandise and maybe walk out with nails, address numbers, Adirondack chairs, whatever. read more

I've always gone first for hardware to Chalmers, a fine neighborhood store with friendly staff. Chalmers meets most of my handyman needs, and I don't mind paying a little more to support a local business. But since Gov Abbott lifted the mask mandate in March 2021, Chalmers has stopped requiring its workers to wear masks, in spite of the abundant studies that support their role in limiting the transmission of COVID-19, which as of April 22 2021 has killed mores Americans than WW II in one-fourth the time. Masks are a nuisance, sure, but they protect the other guy, which in this case is the customer. Maybe Chalmers' owner and manager think their workers' comfort is more important than their customers' health. Maybe they're making a political statement. Maybe they're responding to customers who resent wearing a mask. Maybe they're ill-informed. Whatever the reason, it's an irresponsible decision. I won't be visiting Chalmers again until we're through this mess. I'll miss it. read more

We're from California and in a rush to get a project done since we have limited time. The other store was all out of what I needed so I decided to call Chalmers and inquire to see if they had what I was looking for.. The owner happened to pick up the phone and gave me his undivided attention. He was very personable and happened to have exactly what I was looking for. When I walked in the 2 ladies at the front Greeted me right away with the biggest smiles. The store is so nicely setup. It is also very clean and organized. Chalmers is just a good ol fashioned hardware store. Nuts, bolts, ice cream, sodas, and bottled water too! Of course they have everything you need to maintain your house... but did you know they also have a t-shirt logo business in the back of the store... they can print you up a logo shirt in no time! Great local hardware store here on the Island. We own a small construction company and sometimes it's just nice to support small businesses. Home Depot can be a little big and busy to go in for just one or two things. They have just about everything you need to complete any household projects. Staff is friendly and helpful. read more

The worst experience ever from ServePro Bellaire / Galveston Tx Has a pipe burst in my attic while I was out of town . Called insurance company and they advised to call Servepro I did ... 5 1/2 hours later they showed up .. Disrespected my wood floors and literally tore wet sheet rock out , ground it into my wood floors ( assuming they were going to be pulled up anyway ) ... Put 50 cent aiE holes every 10" in all base boards and literally destroyed my house Now the aftermath ... They actually want to charge me $1000 to " clean " my wood floors !!! They charge exorbitant fees for each fan , each dehumidifier , each hole made in your Sheetrock and baseboard These people can't even "quote " you a price ... They are so sure that the insurance company will pay whatever they charge , it's just fine to go Carte Blanch Never ever use servepro if you can help it. Total scam ! read more

I've lived in Galveston most of my life. Chalmers has always been the best hardware store on the island ever since I can remember. I now live off the island; but if I need some basic hardware; nuts, bolts, screws etc. I still come down to the island and make my way to Chalmers. Why you might ask? Chalmers has some of the most knowledgeable, polite, professional, helpful, friendly employees. They'll just short of bend over backwards to help you find what your looking for. A while back I went in and needed to replace a nut and washer I lost when changing out a part on my car. The young man that was helping me at the store that day walked out to my car with me, took a look at the part, walked back in with me, picked out the right size nut and washer, went back outside with me and checked to make sure it fit. Anytime I've been to Chalmers the experience is always like that. Really friendly and helpful people. read more

The hardware store has everything you need with a knowledgable staff that is eager to help. The embroidery section is a joke. The girl in the back is full of nothing but excuses, incompetence, and sass. I would highly recommend avoiding them at all cost. read more

I did some remodeling and the heater's gas pipe got damaged. A plumber quoted me $250 to replace the pipe. I went to Chalmers on my way to work at 8 am with the damaged gas pipe in hand. I got helped right away. I didn't know the size of washers I needed, we tried different washers with the old pipe and we found the exact match with a trial and error approach. For the pipe itself, Chalmers didn't have the right one on display and the employee went in the back and found an exact twin of the one I had. I came back home in the evening as a hero. There is something to be said about mom and pop shops like Chalmers: the customer service is great. I don't know how they compete on price, but when your total purchase is $14, it doesn't matter how much you would have paid in a big store. Probably I would have had to buy more washers that I needed at a big box store, Chalmers sells them by the piece. A year later, I can attest we survived the winter thanks to Chalmers (and there has been no gas leak) read more
