I was sharing my finds at an Antique Store in Houston with a fellow employee. The employee suggested I visit the Antique Warehouse on 25th Street in Galveston, Texas. I had just gotten off work at 2 pm on Wednesday. I made two stops before I arrived at the warehouse. I was disappointed when I read the hours listed on the door and the sign said closed. As I was walking back to my vehicle I heard a loud banging on the door from the inside. A man opened the door and invited me inside. I told him I thought they were closed. The man said you can come on inside and take a look around. The man's name was Scotty, and he was the owner of the place. Let me tell you this, Scotty gave me the tour of a lifetime. Scotty was helping a gentleman who had recently bought a church in Galveston, and he was converting it to a wedding chapel. We talked about St. Patrick's Catholic School. A school I attended as a child and what a shame it was that it was going to be demolished soon. The conversation took a dramatic turn when Scotty asked me if I had heard of the movie The Green Book? I said yes, but I hadn't watched it. He said neither did I, but do you know what a Green Book was? I said yes, I do it was a book that listed where Black People could eat and sleep during times of segregation in the South. He said correct, and then he asked whether I knew I was standing in a place listed on the Green Book. I told him no, and then he said well follow me. I followed him excitedly like a little kid. I don't want to give too much away but let me just say this: Scotty took me on a million-dollar tour that involved stories of Orphans, The Roaring 20's, World War 2, Brothels, Speakeasys, Peep Shows, Movie Theatres, Ghost Stories, and more. So, I would suggest that if you have time visit Mr. Scotty at the Antique Warehouse located at 423 25th Street. Galveston, Texas, and tell him Malcolm, who works for Galveston County, sent you. Regular hours are 11 am -3pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Don't forget to ask about a tour of the place. I promise you won't be disappointed. I'm a Galveston Native and I had never heard the stories he shared with me, and I've lived or worked in Galveston my entire life. read more

Loved the atmosphere! The building itself is an antique with real character. It used to be a hotel, and they even left a clawfoot tub and a sink in place. Lots of wood. And there's a cool selection of old hardware and appliances. Shelves full of antique electric heaters, antique fans, bathtub handles, and even a fog horn! This is probably the most interesting antique shop on the island. Its not really a warehouse, rather a shop housed in an old hotel. From the outside, it surely doesn't look like much. Remember this isn't an antique store in a ritzy area, its deep in the trenches in Galveston. The lower level is fairly open with some items in cases, but most items are out in the open and in the rear there is a large selection of antique salvage items from old homes in Galveston. Doors, windows, you name it. Upstairs is where you will definitely be able to tell its an old hotel because there are numerous rooms you go in and out of, while walking through the hallway, which leads you back to the stairs when you finish all the rooms. Each room has a different theme, or different set of merchandise. For example, the ladies restroom has a ton of old medicine cabinets. Whether you are interested antiques or history, I recommend stopping here as there are several things to see. I didn't purchase anything on my latest visit, but I did see something I may come back for if it is still there. read more

The Antique Warehouse, although not really a warehouse, has an interesting history. Pricing on some items tend to run a little high, but they may just have something "you need", so it is what it is. The owner, Scott/Scotty can come off a little rude at times, but he seems harmless... he may just not originally be from Texas. Kindness is often more of a Southern Thing. read more

The staff is some of the most rude, disrespectful people that I have ever dealt with. It is shocking the way they treat customers. I can promise you that the moment the store opens, and if you call them they will tell you that they're too busy to talk to you and even hang up on you. They haven't quite figured out how to use the hole button but since they pretend to sell items and pretend to talk to their imaginary dealers I am quite sure that they are pretending that they're busy too...They absolutely will not return phone calls and neither will the owner of the store. The owner of the store actually pretends to check with her dealer when in fact, she actually is the owner of all of the space ..... they're definitely some of the most immature clowns you will ever come across and do yourself a favor and price shop eBay and Etsy before going there! Their items are also very overpriced, they refuse to ship, or even take off $50 on a $600 item. The owner actually admitted to pricing items in her store that she doesn't want to sell so that's why they have been treating me so bad. Ridiculous behavior for a business to engage in. These people will make it so difficult to buy anything from them I can promise you that. Likely full off working ladies because they have old prostitution licenses posted outside of the rooms. Pricing is flexible and we had a very happy ending :-)) read more

He took time to visit with my husband and me, even shared a few woodworking tricks when he learned we were beginning woodworkers/hobbyists. This is a must-stop every time I go to Galveston. Don't let the "beachy" and trendy furniture in some of the photos mislead you ... the place is also full of all sorts of old and untouched "stuff", including a treasure-trove of salvaged architectural ... shutters, door knobs, sinks, columns, light fixtures & parts, all well-organized. The upstairs is a wonderland of old live-in hotel rooms dating back to Humphrey Bogart, full of ... well, you've got to experience it in person. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable about their merchandise, and won't pester you while you spend hours digging through piles of stuff. One of my loves is old clocks, and they always have a good number. I got an extremely unique one there, hard to describe, labeled "one of the first electric clocks." read more

Absolutely amazing....anything you could need for any project. Antique furniture, fixtures, doors, windows, hardware, table legs, drawer pulls, china, architectural features, clothing, etc. You name it, they've got it. The outside is deceptively unassuming....inside is huge and expansive. Don't miss the upstairs. You could spend hours in here! There is a great custom furniture store next door called Scotty's as well! A lovely street to stroll. There's an urban farm on one side, the custom furniture shop on the other, then an organic juice bar and cafe, plus a nice little shop called Flea by the Sea. Very interesting place. They have all kinds of stuff here. My fav part is the area where they have all the drawers full of door knobs, latches, hardware, etc. The problem is everything is insanely expensive. $135 for a vintage toilet paper holder for the wall is ridiculous. I like to go and walk around every once in awhile and check things out but it's very rare that I actually purchase something just because it's so pricey. The building was a bordello with an attached vaudeville theater, and though it ought to be either entirely restored, or declared a historic landmark, it is a great antique & collectibles shop, and the proprietors are a wealth of knowledge in this regard, especially, in regard to architectural restoration and creative interior renovation. A wonderful array of eclectic & retro stock, displayed in the "cribs" of those poor working gals of old: who says the art of window dressing is dead? I love this place. I could spend all day looking at all the wonderful antiques and marveling the building and it's unique history. I have recently purchased many antiques from Scott. Everything is reasonably priced and has a great selection. This is now my "go to" place for antiques. I usually call him in advance to give them an idea of what I am looking for so I save time. I rarely bother haggling on prices as I know Scott prices are reasonable from the get go. Check it out and see for yourself. I came in not sure what I needed for a project. After discussing it with Scott, he showed me several ways of getting my project completed. It worked! As I browsed the huge store, I Watched 3 other employees help customers find their treasures, but Scott helped people design handrails, suggest types of wood needed, which shutter to use, types of old fence, and give indepth history of particular pieces people were buying. Wow...wow.wow... I could spend hours and hours in this store(and my entire bank account)! This is an old historic hotel that is an antique store. They have anything you could possibly want or need. Besides all of the amazing antiques they offer so much more. From hardware, fixtures, latches, bolts, molding, vintage doors, windows, shutters and so so much more. Whether you want to buy antiques or are handy and love to repurpose cool stuff this store is a must! I go at least once a week just to see what is new or what kind of fun stuff I can create from my purchases. Scott the owner is the coolest guy on the island and is a whirlwind of information and contacts. He knows everyone and how to do anything when you need something done. The owners are nice but the so-called "help" are a waste. Combed through shutters (very pricey) for almost an hour. No one offered to assist me in finding the measurements I needed! I asked for help twice. Finally a guy came back and assured me they didn't have what I was looking for. I needed 27 shutters to replace broken ones on my house. I left the ones I had picked out and got back in my car. I don't understand merchants who consider helping customers to be too much trouble. read more

There was some stuff that was reasonably priced but some that were way overpriced. For example there was a cute corner cabinet that was priced well at $100, and a nasty glass jug that didn't have a brand or anything on it that was priced at $45. The upstairs level made me feel like I was in some horror movie involving a haunted hotel. Bring a friend with you in case you see a ghost and get spooked. read more

However after spending an hour walking around with my 15 year old son, the owner who didn't bother to come down and properly price the scraps of wood my son found. My son is an artist and wanted a handful of old piano keys, couple of dowels, carved broken chair rail and a few ratty small finials. We had to dig these out of buckets, rusted drawers....When these items came down and priced what looked like 20 dollars worth of scrap wood they priced at 65. My kid makes artwork that he sells, all his own funding. Ridiculous......they wouldn't even bargain. We are repeat customers and a visit other similar shops for wood findings...lost us read more

First off I'd like to say, the fact that there used to be a brothel upstairs is neat, and worth taking a peek at, since just seeing a prostitution license with your own eyes is pretty crazy. Having said that, that's the only positive thing I can say about this place. I was raised by a mother who owned an antique shop, and I have shopped for them along side her for years and years just about everywhere, and this was by far the most outragiously overpriced place I've been in in my life. (And anyone who knows a single thing about antiques will say exactly the same thing.) I don't know if people get "tourist goggles" or what, but I don't know how they make a profit. And I'm sorry but most of their items were not even antiques. 30 years old, dusty, and overpriced does not an antique make. So my advice? Go in, go upstairs, check out the former brothel, and leave. read more

Where to start! This place is literally heaven-on-earth. I've shopped here many times over the past few years, and really started to visit more regularly here recently. The staff, Holly, Tony, and Scott, are absolutely wonderful. They have put together honestly the single most impressive shop I've been to, and I've been to a lot!! As far as the "high-prices" some people have mentioned..... I've never really experienced that. I will admit, they are higher than the average "antique-booth" at your local flea market, but.....DUH! The items in question are SO much more unique. I could not do what I do without this place, it's simply not possible. I do have to side with the owners when it comes to pricing though, keep in mind, they get a lot of product locally, and galveston really isn't that large of an island, so I am all for higher prices in exchange for authenticity. (And product knowledge) .The point (at least what I've concluded) is no, if you walk in wanting to use pieces for some silly shabby-chic macaroni-necklace (sorry crafters, that's all I see when you ruin antique pieces to make your chalk-painted home decor), its probably not the store for you. But if you're truly needing things to complete special projects, and need "that one piece", its great. Theyre also really well-informed on exactly where/what things came from. i also really appreciate that they seem to almost know that when the item leaves their store, its going to a good home (or maybe thats just the feeling ive gotten) either way, its an extremely comfortable enviroment. They have always been MORE than fair with me, and I will continue shopping here for years to come! All you complainers, remember, for a lot of shop owners in galveston, what they (I would assume) want to pull-away from is being simply another Galveston souveneer shop (I know I mis-spelled that, my autocorrect is acting up). Day in-day out, silly people want to "take home a piece of galveston" with really no regard for its history other than something to stick on a shelf (or again, chalk-paint). And as far as ONE of the comments on this page...... Why and where would you have ever gotten the impression Galveston Antique Warehouse is there to cater to you as an antiques dealer? Go to canton or your local flea market if you're just looking for something to turn a profit on....... Recognize the immense difference in quality/quantity. Don't change!! I love this store! A true antique wonderland! I'm not a fan of places that have antiques polished and perfect with hefty price tags. This is not one of those places. Although they do have collectibles nicely cleaned and organized on shelves, you will also find areas with the dirty stuff you have to sift through a bit. This place is also huge. Just go upstairs and you'll see what I mean. I was just browsing through this place and I was still probably there for almost an hour. Some fun things you will find here: animal bones and antlers, vintage ornaments, retro salt and pepper shakers, flags, all sorts of chairs ranging from wooden to leather to metal, old ornate frames, vintage clothing, creepy dolls, tools, tables, headboards, and sooooooo much more. I found a beautiful velvet pintucked lounge love seat that I was dying to buy. Maybe I will someday. This is a wonderful place, with an inventory unmatched. The only thing I wished for were lower prices. I'm a dealer, and it would be wonderful to find a place, with such a vast inventory, to return to time after time, but the prices were too steep for me to be able to make even a slight profit. This store has everything you could imagine and more. Their prices are a little high on antiques, but the salvage materials are reasonably priced. Yes, it's a tad junky in the salvage areas, but that's what makes it so fun. This store is a treasure hunt to be enjoyed time and time again. I don't even know how to describe this place. BEST antique store I have ever been to, hands down, nationwide. This is an antique store in the true sense of the word. Some places call themselves antique stores but are really more like thrift stores. You won't find that here! The rich history of old Galvestown comes alive in this landmark building that used to be a hotel, then a brothel, then a boarding house and now an antique store. You can tour the whole place, and every room is outfitted with affordable and REAL antiques for sale. They have EVERYTHING, including the kitchen sink!!! Not to mention the bathtub, old doors, gates, beds, tables, sofas, innumerable lamps, frames, etc. An antique junkie like me could spend the better part of a day here, unfortunately came with company so did not have the luxury! This is your one stop shop for antique furniture and home accessories. The prices are very fair. Too bad I live across the country otherwise I would literally pull up a U-Haul and load up! Sigh.....
