This place is one of Alvin's finest treasures! And no he isn't paying me to say this. I'm new to Alvin and trying to decorate my house and came across this place. I'm obsessed with the show on HGTV called fixer-upper where they do a lot of the rustic farmhouse style. This guy at roadside antiques totally gets it! He turns old antiques into those beautiful statement pieces! People, you need to check this store out! He has dressers, chairs, kitchen islands, big window panes that you can put pictures in and hang on the wall, etc.! If you want a piece of furniture restored he can do it. If you need a custom table or something to fit in your home he can do it. He loves projects! And the best part is, he is so fair on pricing. Roadside antiques is a little hard to find, but I think of it as a hidden gem. The man who works here is very nice (and I'm a woman) and I stayed talking to him for about 45 minutes. He specializes in furniture restoration and furniture making. The best things I found in the shop weren't right on top--like when you go antiquing in Montrose, they were hidden beneath other items. The prices are reasonable and if there is something that you like, but it needs fixing, he can do it. This has become one of my new favorite antique stops in Alvin. read more

This place is literally a joke. I don't know how the guy stays in business. I am constantly looking for antiques to do restoration projects with etc. to go in a home I'm renovating so pricey items are not new to me and I am usually willing to spend quite a bit; however, this shop is ridiculous. I've been in several times, hoping it would be better, but each time I leave empty handed. Comically overpriced junk. For instance, a completely obliterated mid 19th century headboard, JUST the headboard, wood splintering, pieces missing, $700. However, the same thing, in pristine condition (the whole bed) by same manufacturer, $900 somewhere else. I was curious about some table legs, sitting, separated from any other pieces, and I was told they aren't for sale, but the table is $800 when he finds the top. This isn't a chic antique furniture shop, it's literally an old junk store. Dimly lit, almost everything for sale is broken, yet he asks astronomically high prices. It's just a pretentious shop owner trying to pass junk off as luxurious rare antiques. And the actual shop is a total dump. Will not be back. It's not high end, and should really be bought out. read more
