"Not when I brought it in" I said and was told that that's not their problem. They had done a diagnostic when I dropped the truck off and there's no mention of a check engine light. I brought it back in and they found that my glow plugs went out. "That happens all the time and we won't fix it for you unless you pay us" is what their mechanic Josh actually told me. Well it happened in their shop but I suspect it does happen quite a bit in there. So to sum it up be prepared to get your vehicle back in worse shape than when you brought it in and that you'll have to foot the bill for it.

But this time, the owner Steve was rude, unprofessional, and misleading, and our car left with a new issue that they caused and refused to fix and is now having the same problem that we took it in for less than 6 months later. Our car was having issues starting and lights on the dashboard were out like the speedometer and gas gauge. When we brought it in, Steve kept getting our car confused with other cars and originally quoted us the wrong work. Then he called back and said they had the wrong car, quoted us for new alternator and battery. We asked about the dashboard lights to get the full quote and he impatiently said they couldn't even look at that yet. He refused to talk about it, said he needed to do the other work, which didn't seem true but we decided to go ahead with the other work since it was already there. He called after the initial repairs and said they noticed the dashboard lights were out, like that was something new. And that their electrical guy was out of town for 2 weeks. I asked why they never told us that upfront, we could have waited to bring it in, and he claimed we'd never mentioned the issue! I mentioned it in detail when I scheduled the appointment and me and my partner had brought it up several times since, every time we talked to him, including a few hours ago that same day. It was confusing and sort of scary. I couldn't tell if he truly forgot, which seemed impossible, or was being intentionally manipulative. He suggested we drive the car home and bring it back in a couple weeks for the other repair. When I said it was dangerous and illegal to drive without the speedometer or gas gauge readable, he said it was "only a mile" so it was fine. He essentially advised us to break the law and risk our safety. We said to just keep it there until they could do the repair. They had our car for almost A MONTH waiting for the electrical guy then having it seen at an electrical shop because they couldn't figure out how to fix it. When the repairs were finally done, he called and said, "It's fine if the new odometer reading is 30,000 miles higher than the old one, right?" What?? Apparently replacing that part with a used one changed the reading and there's a way to fix it but he refused and said we'd need to do that elsewhere. We were given no warning that it would happen prior to the repair and we complained but he wouldn't make it right. Any time I tried to communicate my concerns about what was going on, Steve was downright mean and condescending. They gave our car a new issue and refused to fix it. It has an incorrect odometer reading that will cost extra money and time to fix. We were able to successfully dispute the charge for the dashboard repairs as it was clear the shop was in the wrong, but that doesn't fix the problem. And to top it off, less than six months later, the car is having starting problems again and one of the dash lights is out, so whatever they did didn't fix the underlying issue. Horrible repair shop, horrible experience. The whole thing was so stressful and upsetting and a waste of A LOT of money. I don't know what happened since a few years ago, but do not go here.

I called MVC Auto Repair to get an appointment to find out if my front wheel bearings were really…read morebad. The owners son scheduled the appointment for the next morning. I met Misael Vasquez the owner the next morning, the friendliest man I've met in years. He performed a diagnostic and confirmed the front wheel bearings were bad and needed replacing. He gave me a firm price to replace them along with replacing the ball bearings and showed me the pictures to confirm it. Yes, it was my car! It takes 5+ hours on labor alone to complete the job and since that was my only car I thought thank God he has a comfortable couch and TV. He offered to take me home and pick me up when the car was finished, that's a nice man not just a friendly man. They did an excellent job on my car and I'm very happy. Misael is an honest, upfront on costs trustworthy man. I will refer him to all my friends and family. After all was done it cost me $600 Less than the other estimate I got. I DROVE my car into Bitterlings, approved $500 worth of work, then got 2 more calls about an additional $200, then $150 worth of work needed. $850 total. When I was told I'd be able to pick my car up, I got another call that a part had FALLEN OFF my engine and it is NO LONGER RUNNING, requiring an additional $1050 worth of work to get it running again, a total of $1900. The car was older and almost at 100k miles so the estimated necessary work total had exceeded the value of the car. They still REQUIRED THAT I PAID the $850, even though this work did nothing to fix the vehicle because it NOW WON'T START. I also, went by the shop on a Saturday (not realizing they were closed for the entire weekend) to find my car parked on their lot with the DOORS UNLOCKED and my personal belongings inside. I was lucky nothing was stolen because they have signs all over their office saying they are not responsible for stolen property - so had anything been stolen, it would have been my responsibility, not theirs for leaving my vehicle unlocked on their unfenced, not secure property while they were closed with no one on site for 63 hours. ---- I am upset with the service here because I feel like I was taken advantage of and price gouged instead of hearing from an experienced mechanic about the extent of the work needed to repair my car. I was never given a full picture of the damage my car had sustained, instead I was told small estimates at separate times totaling to a lot of money that never actually fixed the car. Keep in mind, this car was running when I brought it to them so I basically paid for them to break my car and ask for even more money to fix that. I got multiple calls and estimates throughout the day while they were working on my car: 1st call- I was told I was lucky that I only needed $500 worth of work,  2nd call - thermometer needed to be replaced $200, 3rd call - small repair for oil leak $150. After approving all of this work and the 3rd time I had talked to them, they mentioned that the timing chain was stretched but I was told that it DIDN'T NEED TO BE FIXED and I could pick my car up by the end of the day. As the end of the day approached, I called to ask about picking up my car. She called back to tell me that while THE MECHANIC WAS DRIVING MY CAR OUT FOR PICKUP, THE TIMING CHAIN HAD FALLEN OFF AND NOW THE CAR WILL NOT START! To fix this they estimated an additional $1050 of work ($1,900 total). I said no to the work because I wanted to do some research, as now the total of all the work already approved and required, exceeded the value of the vehicle. Moneeba called me multiple times the day after my car broke asking for a decision on doing the additional work but when I asked for the estimates in writing she could not provide anything in writing. Moneeba said THEY DON'T PROVIDE ESTIMATES IN WRITING therefore, I must write it down myself (which is actually against the law in Washington to not provide written estimates for work over $100). She said she would try to put an invoice together with the work I had approved but it took 2 days to finally get the repairs they had done in writing. Still no written estimate for the work required to get the car running again. When I came in to speak to Moneeba and discuss options, she was defensive and demanding that they had done nothing wrong. The only thing that she did to right the wrongs of her shop (and I doubt she would have had I not requested it) was due to the fact that I could no longer drive my car off the property -  was she didn't charge me to store my car on the lot past the week mark while I tried to sell it. I'd also like to point out that the old owner, Don, no longer owns this auto shop and most of these reviews are for the business he ran. Bitterling's is not accredited by the BBB. Save yourself the hassle and stress I went through and go somewhere else!
