The behavior was obvious, uncomfortable, and completely unwarranted. He ultimately went to Lowe's, purchased everything needed there, and later returned all items that had previously been bought from Ace. This was a direct outcome of how he was treated in the store. In today's environment, it is disappointing to see a professional customer made to feel unwelcome or under suspicion--especially one there to spend a significant amount of money.
