StraightUp sold me and installed my roof solar panels in Oct. of 2024 and it was energized within 2 weeks of completion. I had one unexpected expense which the roof needed reinforcements for the 20 panels. I have been saving 90% of my power costs since. The process went pretty smooth including Ameren's involvement. I since purchased an EV which also charges at my home and was not included in the power consumption estimate they figure out prior to installing. Even with the additional power use due to my car, it is working out great. Electricity costs go up every year so hopefully that saving will go in my pocket. read more

StraightUp Solar has been fantastic through the entire process from education to install to post-install support. I was introduced to this solar company through a local Grow Solar group-buy program. There were multiple education seminars StraightUp hosted with the MREA for the Grow Solar program. I attended one as I was already looking for a solar option on my house. StraightUp representatives helped me at every step: answering questions, keeping me informed through the process, and explaining and modifying the contract to suit my particular situation. The install was scheduled around my calendar, everyone who arrived on-site was professional and knowledgeable. I was greatly impressed with my project manager, the site manager, and the electrical contractors who partner with StraightUp. I was walked through what the install process would be and modifications to my home BEFORE anything was done, and they made sure I was comfortable and understood along the way. During the install, the team was very respectful of my property. They had heavy equipment with them, as well as ladders of course, but they handled all of it with care to not damage my patio or house. There was a need to drill into the side of my house to connect the grid to my breaker box and the electricians cleaned up after themselves and even re-insulated around the new hole. There was a follow-up visit a few days later to walk me through use and the owner manual - very professional team. After everything is installed, you can't use it (legally) until Ameren switches me to a bidirectional meter. Ameren took a while to get out, so when I had more questions after this, Matt and Valerie were more than helpful and patient! I would recommend StraightUp Solar to anyone even considering solar install as they're so experienced and knowledgeable, not to mention professional and trustworthy. We were referred to Drew Mueller with StraightUp Solar from a professional colleague of his. I sent Drew a few photos of our home and electric panel along with our recent Ameren bills. We scheduled a Zoom call to review our proposal based on our existing electric usage. The video call was very low pressure and casual. We got a lot of information about the company and a breakdown of the costs to have the solar panels installed in an easy to navigate PDF. We reviewed financing options and the estimated amounts of the refunds we would receive from Ameren, the federal government on our taxes, and from the local Grow Solar St. Louis program. We completed a virtual call with MREA for the Grow Solar St. Louis program. Each year, based on the number of people that sign up for solar in the St. Louis area, a portion of our price comes back to us, starting at about .5% increasing with each person added. It was a great program and video to watch as it answered some of our questions about the process in a little more depth. We were provided log in information for the Bodhi assistant. It was an easy way to check on the status of the permits, ordering of materials, and install. We were also able to communicate directly with Charles, the lead project manager. On the day of install, it was raining, so the team spent time inside adding another electric panel in the basement and otherwise upgrading the electricity. The next day, the team came back and completed the roof work. Altogether, it took less than 8 hours for the team to complete the install. The on-site crew leader had a checklist to review with us to make sure everything was completed properly and all our questions were addressed. Ameren installed our new meter in a matter of days and we were able to turn on the unit. Ever since, we have access to the Enlighten app to check on our solar production hourly/daily and compare it to prior days/weeks. Our first bill was only $12! I can't wait to see how much money we can save, while also doing something for the environment. read more

I approached several companies about possibly installing solar during 2019. StraightUp was low pressure and provided me a very nice proposal that showed what to expect over the life of the system. When my wife and I decided to do it they patiently endured several changes in our requirements. The "Solar Ninjas" did the installation and were a delight to have on site. Only criticism is that often back and forth communication took a day or two but with the volume of business they had this year it was understandable. read more

We happen to be in the area and saw on the plug share app that on weekends charging is free to the public. A white lady with a nasty attitude and an accent came out as we were leaving and yelled at us and told us it was illegal to charge our car there. She insinuated we were stealing. There was no signage whatsoever on the plug saying it was for employees only. The only signage was that the space was for electric vehicle charging. If you don't want people to use your chargers, make it clear. Also, don't have it listed on the app. Nobody is going to randomly drive to middle of nowhere industrial area off of Page Ave to charge their car. read more

Horrible response time , if you have questions about solar , be prepared to leave a message . Then , after a day or so , a salesman will call you back and then have a "planner" call you back . Then he takes a couple of days to call you back . This is a $40000 item . The service is worse than what a car salesman would give on a $10000 used car . Just horrible . I could just picture the service, AFTER I gave them my initial deposit . And said no thanks . read more

They were doing my neighbors house but parked in from of mine. That would be ok if they understood that I don't have anything to do with it and not treat my lawn and driveway as their workplace and path. I planted new grass seed a few weeks back and they are wearing a path through it. Continuing on and cutting through the middle of my drive, brushing past my vehicles and again through the side lawn. I opened my garage briefly to get the mail and the skinny dark haired guy was on the phone just staring inside my garage the ENTIRE time it was open. Learn to respect others and their property and stay on your customers property, the ONLY place you're authorized to be on. read more

As part of our agreement for getting some redress I agreed to update the overall review to neutral. They did work to address the majority of the issues. I still have a system that doesn't meet the original requirement but I got what I paid for. They agreed to reimburse for the trenching, they offset the power bill costs from the delays, and they came out reset/leveled the solar panels after the additional bracing was installed. In the end I'd say they made an honest effort to resolve the issues. read more

I researched multiple companies and eventually choose StraightUp Solar. I signed and paid the large deposit quickly to take advantage of a rebate in the future. Initially scheduled for early January, they actually got me in right after Christmas. That meant I got to take advantage of the federal rebate on this year's taxes. So far great, right? I gave the company the same trust as I had others and ran an errand which left unsupervised access to my house. Now, no charges against their workers have been filed. However, I returned an hour later and they worked the rest of the day. My visible work schedule showed that I would be out of the house that day from 4-7. Workers previously had seen a jewelry chest in a room when they accessed the attic. I returned home early from work and heard a sound. Didn't notice an open window that is always locked and hard to open from the inside. Finally went to investigate and encountered a person running out of my house with a bag that I later discovered included most of my jewelry including gold. Upstairs was trashed. Fast forward, the cost of increased insurance premiums and a home security system means that any savings due to solar has been lost. Their response varied from silence to a refrain that their employees are family and would never commit such a crime or help others. Lessons that I learned- not everyone is honest and to check all doors and windows when contractors leave. I will end with a restate- no finger prints were found that led to charges or arrest. I don't wear lots of jewelry, no one else knew the house would be empty during those hours, no one else had the ability to unlock the window from the inside. No one else had the knowledge to run the obstacle course that is in my fenced backyard without prior observation. Why did I wait so long to fill out a review? Finally worn down by the monthly reminder of increased expenses. read more

Since installing a geothermal system a few years ago, we saw our electric bills go up (although our propane bills went down), so we wanted to take the next step in both economic and environmental sustainability, and get off dirty coal energy. A neighbor had a good experience with StraightUp Solar, so we began talking with Shannon Fulton. She took the time to answer all our questions, and we went through quite a few different scenarios, each with pros/cons, before deciding to spread the solar panels over 5 different roof surfaces on the south side of our home. This was not an easy installation, but every member of the team worked to make it happen, and it has worked out beautifully. As soon as they flipped the switch, our monthly electric bill went to the $18 minimum monthly service charge. We are now in the shortest days of the year, so may have to pay a bit more than that, but so far the system has worked perfectly, and we are very happy to be generating clean energy and paying very low electric bills. read more

The company installed a 9.6 kW PV system for us. We thought we were being careful in not naively accepting their sales pitch promises. Unfortunately, we were not careful enough. I am reluctantly giving them a three star rating instead of a two star only because I think it might have been even worse with one of the other companies we interviewed. The workmanship was good. The on-site workers were pleasant and professional. The office support staff were patient, courteous, and (until the last payment was received) said all the "right" things. The problems were that the representations made did not match reality. We were assured the system was sized properly and the size of the inverters would not limit production. We were told if that was not true, they would replace the inverters. This turned out to false. The company (after getting the final payment) finally admitted the inverters will limit the production, but essentially said 'tough luck'. We emphasized at our first meeting that we did not want to encounter hidden costs in order to achieve the estimated production. They assured us this would not happen. This also turned out to be false. We ended up having to spend about 10% more to achieve their promises. They also attempted to slip in an accelerated payment schedule when they presented us with the first unexpected change order. read more
