I love the Straders located in Dublin/Shawnee Hills. My family owns a greenhouse in Cleveland and I grew up around plants. I know quality and Strader's annual selection is top notch. Staff is super nice and very attentive. I live in Powell and Straders is definitely my go to. read more

I've been several times now, and I would give it five stars if I had a consistent experience. Of the 4 visits it was a mixed bag. I had two experiences with people who knew their stuff, looked at the photos of my landscaping and spent 30-40 minutes with me showing me ideas and options. It was an amazing exceptional experience. Then I would come back and have great help in the greenhouse, then turn around and ask a different lady in the greenhouse a question and get barked at and rudely dismissed and ask another one for direction to something and basically get ignored. To management--I would suggest establishing a consistent customer service experience, culture, and expectations. You're at 6 stars 50% of the time and 1 Star the rest. You have great products and fair prices on plants. Round it out. read more

I decided to try my hand at fruit/veggie gardening for the first time this year, so when a friend suggested I check out Strader's, I headed on over. Wow, is this place huge!! There is just section after section of this place, going out in multiple different directions from the entrance. You could easily spend several hours here looking at everything. As one might gather from the sheer size of the place itself, there is a huge selection. In addition to all of the plants, there are large sections dedicated to other gardening needs -- tools, pots, decorations, seeds, etc. On the flip side, the size means if you need help you may need to walk a little ways to find someone. This place is worth a look whether you are looking for landscape plants, edible plants, hanging baskets, and more! Just be ready to spend some time if you are planning to browse. read more

Up until today, Strader's was where my entire family purchased our plants and flowers. After how I was treated today at the Strader's in Dublin on Riverside Dr, we WILL NOT be returning. While I was inside the store purchasing plants, my car was backed-up into in the Strader's parking lot and pretty significant damage was done to the bumper. I understand this is not directly Strader's fault however, when I brought this to the attention of the store manager, Al, he became visibly angry that I had even told him about it and asked me to leave the store! UNREAL! He said to go and file a police report with the cops and take it up with my insurance, that it wasn't his problem. Regardless as to if this is the appropriate policy in handling this situation or not, Al should have taken me into the store office and called the cops with me, since it did happen on THEIR property. Yelling at a customer for telling you that their car has been hit in the parking lot is beyond unprofessional. Needless to say I will be calling the corporate office and taking this situation up with them. If yelling at your customer and telling them to leave is how you handle a situation like this, Al needs to be re-trained and brought under control! read more

All I can say is I experienced the best example of how NOT to run a business. I went to Straders to purchase a 1000 lawn vac. I can't imagine that this is a typical purchase for most of their customers. After asking for assistance the kid at the register told me he had made several calls and no one was responding. He proceeded to try and help but gave me information I knew was incorrect. When I told him I didn't think that was right he politely asked me to come back tomorrow I am sorry Straders for being such an inconvenient customer. Strader's has a great selection of flowers, trees, bushes, grass, herbs, etc. They have just about anything and everything for your gardening needs. After visiting 4 or 5 times in the past week as we started fixing the poor landscaping at our house, I've noticed some great deals. Lots of flowers and bushes on sale. However, it is June, so I can't vouch for prices at other times of the year. The reason I only give Strader's 3 stars is the terrible customer service. They seem to have a lot of employees wandering around, but not one ever asked if they could help us. When we tried to ask someone for help today, they acted as if it was a huge inconvenience. The cashiers weren't much better- simply trying to check you out so they can get back to whatever they were doing before. read more

I am especially excited about the two lovely Forcethia bushes I purchased. Instead of listening to me as I tried to ask for help, they barreled over me to tell me "No. No. We don't do that." Terrible customer service. I have ALWAYS gone to Strader's for all of our landscaping needs. We have many properties around Columbus and it was always a great place to go for one stop shopping. However, today I went to the King Avenue location and encountered a horribly unhappy woman at her job. She seemed unhappy that she had to answer any questions. Also, I overheard her say to someone, " I don't go to the grocery store and ask the butcher how to cook the food in my cart, do I?". Wow!!! I didn't catch her name but she's an older woman with a ponytail and glasses. A word of advice... Stay away from her!!! A tip for Strader's headquarters... Fire her!! read more

Went to buy a tree from this place. when i was checking out i noticed white powdery mildew on a few leaves. I said something and the lady told me it was nothing. I told her it looked like mildew, she called a guy up from outback. he tried to tell me it bird poop. these people are a joke. read more

My very 1st visit and I was amazed by the amount of different kinds of plants I could choose from. I was like a kid in a candy store. That is until I wanted a particular plant. I come across Lisa. I kindly said " excuse me where can I find jazmine flowers" Lisa looks at me and my friend as if we had leprosy and said "over there" pointing with her chin. Keep in mind the garden section is about an acre if not larger. Then walked away! I wanted to go Chris Brown vs Rihanna on her but I know how much that's frowned upon in society. I will return to this store ,only to see this rude Lisa and to let her know I can be a bigger a**hole than she was to me. read more

This store was wonderful to me until just recently. I loved going here and often found myself making up excuses just to stop by and walk around. I grew up walking the rows of garden stores and frankly I love the feel of being in one. My uncle owns one back east and I miss going there every year, so naturally (without even noticing it happened) I grew an attachment for this store. I bought everything here. Recently I moved 30+mins away from this store in the worst season I could have moved....Spring...which means only one thing for people like me....time to head over to Straders & buy more stuff! Without even looking up a closer location I drove the 40mins in rush hour traffic to my store. I bought some herbs and a tomato plant (mine aren't doing so well again this year) and some very expensive dirt (I could have spent a fraction of this cost at a local store) and some marigolds...'cuz why not'... and some other odds and ends. I got home and not even 2 days later I notice a fungal infection on my tomato plant; I set him aside. My basil started to brown & turn white....odd. I check my Venus fly trap, cactus, other plants...all fine. 2 days later the tomatoes get much worse. I recheck my other plants. The basil is looking worse, the marigolds are dying, I find spider mites and aphids in my thyme....something I thought impossible!! I was horrified, esp by the looks of my tomatoes! Of course, I had no receipt, never having an issue with this store. I called up in a panic and was reassured they would do an exchange. I grabbed my tomatoes (fungus issue & spider mites), basil (turning white and dying), 1 marigold (the top stem had been broken off and an infection of some sort had sprouted & spider mites), rosemary (fungus issue) , and chives (yellowing and droopy) and was on my way. When I got there I was greeted by a rude employee who told me there's no refunds without a receipt. I explained very politely that the girl I spoke to this morning told me not to worry and to just 'come on in and she would fix it' but that she did not give her name. Then another woman comes over and starts to inspect what I brought in, speaking very loudly and harsh at me ''these things need water...that's why they're dying.'' I look at her, very plainly, and tell her if she stuck her finger in the soil she would realize it was watered yesterday. She ignores me and says 'no refunds for dying plants that you didn't water.' I tell her there were spider mites on the rosemary and a fungus growing on the bottom leaves, the marigolds were cut in store and left to dye (you should have seen this poor thing!), the tomatoes look like it was getting a horrible fungus that I've never seen before nor could anyone on my garden site help me, the basil was turning white....odd enough in itself, and I tried to go on but was cut off with her yelling at me that there was nothing she could do but that she could see there were issues with all of them, still blaming me not watering them. At this point I was shaking. I hate confrontation and would rather chew off my own arm then ever get into a yelling fight with someone, esp in public, esp more so then at my favorite store in the world! This woman treated me like I knew NOTHING...ZIP, NODDA, ABOUT PLANTS, more so that I knew nothing about anything! I yelled back at her now that I did not appreciate her attitude and that I couldn't believe how I was being treated, someone who's always in their store and buying things! I said that I was never coming back and that they were going to loose a very loyal customer and I STARTED TO CRY...actually tearing up here...SHE KEEPS YELLING AT ME about their policy and how she would return the tomatoes for me 'if I would like to go pick another one out..' but that nothing else looked sick enough to her. I shoved the plants onto the table in front of her and demanded her to show me how they weren't sick. At this point some manager comes over and talks to her about it, saying something about the tomatoes. I could have jumped over that counter and beat her with the tomatoes at this point...the manager did nothing to help me. She walks away now and I'm fuming!!! This bit*h behind the counter tells me to go find another tomato plant and says again that nothing else can be returned. I tell her to keep the dead plants since I cant have them in my house and infect the rest of the plants and storm off to find another tom plant only to find more tomato plants with the SAME F-ING PROBLEM!!! I walk down the row and inspect the rest...all having similar blight issues. I found a different variety down at the front of the row and make my way back to the register. No discounts, no manager apology, NO APPOLOGY AT ALL.... just the manager walking by laughing holding what I brought back as she puts them back on the shelf to sell to another customer! I WAS HORRIFIED!! IF THE OWNER EVER READS THIS PLEASE KNOW HOW DISGUSTED I AM WITH YOUR COMSTER SERVICE & PRODUCTS! read more

Straders has pretty much everything you need for gardening, landscaping and holiday decor during the Christmas season. I gave them 1 star because their customer service is awful. They have a lousy return policy. Their employees have absolutely no interest in helping you. When you can actually make eye contact with one to ask a question, they aren't very knowledgeable. Great opportunity for Straders to improve and increase their customer base or for another entrepreneur to go into business to easily compete for their customers eager for another option. I often drop by the King Avenue store as it caters to the community of Upper Arlington as a convenient offshoot of the larger store on Riverside. Outside of the lawn products and accessories, the store, staff and service are underwhelming. With regard to the "super" store on Riverside, the product is good/not excellent. However, it is the overall lack of customer service that has consistently driven me to the always superior experience of Oakland Nursery. An additional 3-5 minute drive will provide you with excellent product, superior and above your expectation, customer service. The general attitude of the skilled and experienced staff at Straders is that of grumpy, burned out, resigned and afflicted individuals. It is past time for the owner's to interject into their culture the fresh, whimsical contentment that flowers and plants bring to all! Right now, all that is being cultivated at Straders is complacency and deterioration in staff and product. read more

Strader's is decent for annuals, shrubs, and trees, but their care for their limited selection of cacti and succulents leaves a great deal to be desired. Their greenhouse provides far too little light for many plants like jades that require full-sun, and they water succulents far too often, which promotes swelling, leaf drop, and root rot. Additionally, many of their succulents, including aeoniums, are infested with mealybugs, which causes plant death if left untreated for too long. The worst problem is that Strader's does not even pot cacti and succulents in the right kind of soil. They use peaty, water-retentive flower soil that is terrible for the roots of such plants, rather than gritty, fast draining mixes. A gollum jade I bought there began to drop leaves and rot a mere four days after purchase, and the insufficient soil (coupled with no light) was the culprit. When these concerns were brought up to managers, they denied them and waved them off, which is yet more evidence of the terrible customer service Strader's is infamous for providing. Because of this, they will continue to sell sick, ill-cared for plants to unsuspecting customers. The worst part of it is this- they have a no return policy on all house plants, so they can refuse all responsibility. Go to Oakland Nursery--they provide excellent customer service for healthy, happy plants. read more

I hit all the garden places from clintonville to Powell to dublin..Andersons lowes oakland the cool little places out in powell etc. Consistently every single visit to this straders on riverside ends up with me leaving frustrated and vowing never to come back. The staff are minimal at best, and 99 percent are unhelpful and unknowldgeable. They will act extremely put out to be asked anything about the plants they know nothing about. They will often get on their walkie talkies with a distant glare and radio to headquarters for assistance--never letting you forget that you have greatly mucked up their day. It will make you feel like crap and you literally will sometimes have to walk the entire length of the center to find someone who works there. They are also consistent in this treatment over the phone. Every year I long to go back and find some of the cooler plants or containers I've purchased in years past. I of course forget how angry I was the year before or I think well maybe it was just the help that year. I drive out there ready to blow my money on my plant obsession only to find the same exact attitude and unknowledgable staff and passive aggressive or shitty attitide---with the single exception of Shirley who is a veteran rose grower and knows everything about tropicals. She is a gem. And worth the drive if shes working. Unfortunately she only works a handful of hours a week. She really likes journey and will gladly talk about the concerts she attends. She is really cool and I think she's around 70. So please if you do go, try to find Shirley. You will also find the regular stuff such as impatients and other run of the mill flats to be some of the highest priced of any garden store anywhere. When I add up all the years ive experienced the same kind of above frustration its about 9 years. Every single summer its like this. I have learned to just not go--despite wanting to visit all the large flower stores in the spring and summer months to find all my favorites--ive just found I no longer feel like giving this center my business. I was there earlier this year to buy a long wooden planter that runs 60.00. I had purchased one the summer before and wanted anotber few to match. I wanted to buy two but there was only one on the shelf. I asked a woman working if they had another in stock because they only had the one on tbe shelf. She said well is there another one over there???!! In a ticked off tone and I said if there was another one there I wouldn't be asking for one. She got really pissed, tromped past me and smacked her hand down on the empty shelf to half heartly feel around then said no we dont have anymore. She didn't want to check. She was done with this awful customer who wanted to spend 120 on planters and then money on the plants to fill them. I was so fumed by her attitide and treatment it was all I could do to spend the 60.00 to get the one and get out of there. That kind of behavior from someone in a customer service feild makes my skin crawl. And she was not a summer help, she was more of a manager level. I have not been back since. Friends don't let friends shop at straders riverside. I think they just got too big for their britches and they dont value their long term clients because they simply dont miss them when they leave after incidents like this. There is always a new horde of customers filing thru the door who will take it for awhile or somehow not be bothered. read more

Just purchased a brand new weber grill that was not inexpensive and not light. Got it home unpacked it to prepare for assembly and a major piece was cracked in half. Had to repack and reload it in my vehicle to return (again it was a heavy package and required two people) I called straders and spoke to the manager Al Burnett/Barnett. I asked for free assembly (only $30) on the replacement to compensate me for my time and inconvenience. He stated he would not do that, I said I will just return it and never shop at a straders again. He very dismissively said ok that is not a problem. Very disappointing interaction. He had an opportunity to recover the current business and bring me into the fold on future purchases. Unfortunately Straders did not see it that way and they will also not see any business from me or anyone I know. read more

Going here was the biggest mistake of my life. I tried more than once to ask for assistance and got major attitude from the employees like I was wasting their time. When I went to check out I actually got a snide comment from the cashier about the 'kind of person who doesn't use a credit card'. All because I wanted to actually pay for my product and not go into debt doing it. That's when I left, without wasting my money a on a company who defiantly doesn't treat their customers like the ones who pay their paychecks. I had a problem with part of my purchase, and no one was willing to do anything about it. Ever since falling in love with gardening last summer, Strader's has been one of my favorite stores. On a nice day, it even feels pleasant just being in the greenhouse. Huge selection of plants and gardening equipment, plus better prices than competitors like Oakland. I like that the plants are divided into easy to find sections (annuals, perennials, shady plants, vegetables, etc.) I have found the staff to be very helpful in general, although it can be hard tracking someone down when it's busy. The one possible negative is that it can be hard at times trying to find a specific item based on their store layout (took awhile to find bird netting), and they could maybe use some aisle labels, but otherwise it's fine. read more

Love this place! We got our Christmas tree here the weekend after Thanksgiving and it lasted all the way until New Year's weekend when we took it down. The tree was a great deal price-wise and they even cut off the bottom and the extra branches for us. I also recently went here to pick up some vegetable and herb plants for our garden. Great prices and great customer service. I was asked numerous times if I needed help finding anything and when I actually did need help they were able to find exactly what I was looking for. WOW! Called three separate times this morning to see if they had a $600+ mower in stock. Either got voice mail, folks who "couldn't help with mowers", the "mower shop" that only does used mowers and repairs, and finally after 10 minutes on hold "the" person who could help (or not). I told him specifically what I was looking for (Toro Super Recycler w/electric start and the Toro engine) and his first question, "Do you have a model number? No, I did not, but I think I was pretty specific and if you are a Toro dealer it wouldn't be too hard to find. He did go check and came back to tell me he did have one and the price. I asked if there was still a $50 rebate from Toro - the response, "as far as I'm concerned, that's the price". Sorry Strader's, the sale went elsewhere, three strikes and you're out! read more

Our daughter was married in Columbus this past week-end. Back in September we ordered 5 large hanging baskets of wandering jew plants from a nursery in North Royalton, Ohio. They were to line the front of the stage which was the dance floor and were the perfect size, shape and color.They told us they would hold the plants until the November wedding date to keep them safe and healthy for us. When we went to pick them up the N. Royalton nursery told us they had forgotten about our order and trimmed them all back completely, they looked horrible. They kept trying to talk us into settling for plants she had not wanted. I spent hours on the phone in Cleveland trying to replace the hanging baskets that had been ruined. We decided to try green houses in Columbus and called Strader's. I spoke with Karen and Judy, both of these women were extremely helpful and understanding. They described the varieties of wandering jew plants they had available and pulled them to hold them for us until we could get to Columbus the next day. When we arrived to pick them up, they were already loaded on a cart for us, they let us change a few of the plants to alternate colors and were very patient as we made our choices. The plants were beautiful, healthy and a wonderful addition to the wedding decor. We are so happy that we called them and an added bonus they were on sale. :) read more

Staff is horrible at helping you with your needs. I called in for a specific product and they said they had it. When i came in to get it 30 minutes later...nothing. Make sure you do your homework on what items you need as they will lead you astray from what you really should do. Know what you want before coming. Strader's at 2625 London-Groveport Road would not accept a gift certificate. This was a valid gift certificate with no expiration date. Al Norman, the manager, would not accept the gift certificate to be used towards our purchase. He told us that a gift certificate requires a receipt (proof of purchase) to be included. I don't know if this is standard; we were just trying to buy some flowers for Mother's Day. read more

Words of warning....DO NOT BUY A TREE AT STRADERS that is on sale. They have sales prices on BIG TREES and smaller trees on occasion. Trouble is, if you have any issues with them, too bad for you, they are not under ANY warranty. Normally, their trees are warranted to 1 year but if on sale, NADA, ZIP, nothing! I know, since I bought a tree a little over year ago, a nice (or so we thought), October Blaze Maple. It is now about 18 months later and the tree that we paid them to plant for us has bark that has nearly scaled off the tree and the tree is nearly dead. Called Straders about it, they said they would have someone call us back to discuss---that was over a week ago now and nothing. Words of warning! read more

This place is a disaster and each and every person I spoke with was rude and annoyed to be answering a question. Brought my mower in on a Sunday only to find no service technicians working. I was told the mower shop is not open on Sundays and the employee pointed to a hand written sign. Yet, if you call the store or look online, it clearly states the mower shop is open from 10am to 5pm on Sundays. I've experienced additional rude treatment while discussing status of the service. Needless to say I won't be back and wish I would have read the reviews here before visiting. read more
