A decade ago, I sometimes went to a tiny tiki bar at the District in Tustin until one day, to my disappointment, it vanished. Recently, while reading a tiki bar review by Raven R., I noticed it had the same name as the place I used to visit and, after a bit of investigation, realized that they had moved to this larger space. They'd been in business for a few years at this new location and I just now found out! I immediately made reservations (recommended). We were seated in one of the tiki booths, shown a QR code to access the menu, and reminded there is a two hour time limit due to limited seating. We started with a couple of appetizers - angry edamame and chicken skewers - as they were a happy hour deal. The edamame, made with sriracha, garlic, and ginger, were at the edge of my spice tolerance (which is very low), but I loved them, while the chicken was tender with a delicious miso sauce. The big reason to come here is for their magnificent variety of cocktails. I had a Kona Coffee (spiced rum, macadamia nut liqueur, espresso, and coconut) which was fantastic, definitely on my list of favorites. Later I had a Rum Runner (Hamilton West Indies rum, blackberry, banana, pineapple, and orange) which was fruity and sweet, served in a surfer-monkey mug. I really like this one too. As a main dish I got the grilled pineapple teriyaki chicken sammie, which was a festival for the taste buds, although a bit messy. The accompanying fries were excellent. The atmosphere is dark and "tiki" which, along with attentive service (and of course incredible cocktails), make for a highly enjoyable experience.

Stowaway is such a fun spot to kick back with friends. The whole tiki/island vibe really sets the mood--it feels like a mini escape the moment you walk in. Great decor, great energy, and the perfect place to hang out, drink, and snack. Speaking of drinks... they are really good--almost dangerously so. Everything we tried was delicious, but the mai tai was definitely our favorite. Super well-balanced and easy to keep ordering without realizing how strong they are. The food didn't disappoint either. Every dish we had was flavorful and paired perfectly with the drinks, making it easy to settle in and stay awhile. Overall, a lively, laid-back spot with great drinks, tasty food, and a fun atmosphere. Definitely a go-to for a night out with friends.

This is a fun themed bar. Parking can be tight so make sure to prepare appropriately. Our server, Chin was the absolute best! We were well taken care of and all our questions were answered. The drink menu is extensive so expect some tough choices. We got black sands, flamingo, and rum runner. Black Sands- This is rum based with guava mango, pineapple, and orange. It was a fruity, vacation drink taste. Flamingo- You get a strong pear flavor with a hint of lime. Main alcohol is vodka. Very citrusy. Rum Runner- You get a montage of blackberry, banana, orange, and pineapple. Served in a fun monkey glass. Great experience overall!

Completely blown away by Stowaway! What an awesome tiki bar. While the decor is great, the cocktails are what really impress. Rarely do you get both a fun tiki bar AND world-class drinks, but that is exactly what Stowaway offers out here in Tustin. Mix in impeccable service and you have yourself one of the best establishments in the area. I can't wait to come back to try more of their menu items. Plan ahead because this spot is in high demand!

There's too much positive things to say about this place! For starters, the drinks here are so yummy and will definitely get the vibes going. The food is delicious. Our Server, Fabian was so helpful. Checked in frequently, good attitude and super helpful with ordering and anything else we needed. This place is perfect for shmedium sized groups ~5-6 and also good for date nights. Music and environment is moderate. Thank you Fabian for making our experience awesome!

Fun bar with plenty of drinks and food to choose from! They also have great happy hour deals. It's a tiki bar, but I was so glad the drinks weren't overly sweet or loaded with sugar like at many other places. I tried the loco moco, which came with mac salad and was really good. There was a juicy patty with rice and gravy, and a perfectly cooked egg on top. I also tried the coconut shrimp, which was super crunchy with a big coconut flavor and paired perfectly with a sweet and sour dipping sauce. I would come again and try their different cocktails!

We absolutely loved our time here tonight! This is such a cute spot. Very immersive, clam and relaxing! Fair pricing for drinks and they have plenty of non-alcoholic options which was great for us! Our family members enjoyed some of their alcoholic drinks: Mai Tai, Bahama Mama and Smokey Rita. We enjoyed non-alcoholic Shirley Temples (with a side of fire) and pain killer! They also have a few vegan options for food. Our waiter, Crystal was super friendly and made our experience awesome! Thank you so much! We can't wait to make a road trip back out here to Newport. We'll definitely stop here again!

Smoking Rita, Angry Edamame (minus Sri racha) and Holy Grail

What a super fun bar and restaurant this is! The theme is Tiki and they have a very vast menu of really creative drinks! I tried the Smoking Rita (Mezcal, grilled pineapple, lemon, agave) and it was delicious but strong! My husband liked it since he likes stronger drinks where I prefer not to taste the alcohol as much so The Holy Grail (Tequila, Giffard Raspberry, Agave, Lime, Cucumber and Raspberry) was perfect for me! I could drink like 10 of those it was so delicious! They also have a yummy food menu which I want to go back and try since we just came here for Happy Hour and sat at the bar and had a couple drinks and shared the Angry Edamame. Watch out- the Angry Edamame is SPICY! Way spicier than the normal garlic chili edamame that they have at other restaurants! We sat at the bar and it was easy to order food and drinks from the Bartender. You can make a reservation but we got there early (before 5pm) and were seated right away. Their Happy Hour Menu runs Tuesday-Friday 4pm-6pm and it's great value both for drinks and food (our Angry Edamame was half priced at $5, instead of $10) Also all skewers are $2 off. They also have Dole Whip here (like at Disneyland) which I absolutely love!! The ambiance here is also off the charts - everything you'd expect when you think "Tiki Bar"! I can't wait to go back to try more of their large variety of drinks and more of their food!

We returned to Stowaway on the day after Christmas to try their holiday cocktail menu. We were disappointed to find out that they pulled the plug on it after Christmas eve. Their social media accounts even said it would continue until January 4 like many other places with a special holiday cocktail menu. We decided to stay and have some food and a few drinks anyway. We started out the Poke Bombs ($15) and Shishito Peppers ($13) appetizers which were good as always. I started out with the Ailani Elixir (Light Rum, Spiced Rum, Coco, Pineapple, Orange, Lihing Mui, $14). I had this drink a few visits ago and loved the spiced rum flavor. It even motivated me to start using spiced rum in my cocktails at home. This time it was very sweet and all pineapple flavor with a hint of coconut and zero spiced rum flavor. I would have never guessed this was the same cocktail. She started out with Hemingway's Ghost (Papas Pilar 7 Rum, Lime, Grapefruit, Luxardo, $15). This was a very good balanced cocktail with grapefruit very noticeable on the nose and finish. My second drink was the Singapore Sling (Gin, Pineapple, Lime, Lemon, Bitters, Cherry, $14). I've enjoyed Singapore slings before, but this was a pure citrus bomb that tasted like it had three times the amount of lime and lemon it should have had, with a hint of cherry on the finish. My girlfriend had a sip and immediately got a pucker face. It started tasting better half way through as the melting ice started to dilute it. Her second drink was the Black Sands (Bali Hai Pineapple Rum, Diplomatica Reserve Rum, Pineapple, Orange, Guava, Lime, Coco, Charcoal, $18). It arrives at the table flaming on top. The pineapple and guava flavors stood out. It also has a little funk to it, making it even more interesting and enjoyable. We were disappointed we couldn't try the holiday special drinks, and both of my drinks were a fail, but hers were good. Service was also good. I also returned with a friend in mid-November, and didn't write an update, but I will add some additional comments from that visit. Even though their Halloween cocktail menu had ended this was the one drink I didn't get to try because they ran out of the ingredients on the night we visited. Our server checked and said they could still make it, so I had the Cocktail From The Crypt (Golden Eagle Vodka, Macadamia Nut Liqueur, Pineapple, Lemon, Coconut Cream, $17). It was balanced, and macadamia nut forward with coconut and pineapple in the background. I had the Rum Runner on my first visit here and enjoyed it, so I ordered it again (Hamilton West Indies Rum, Blackberry, Banana, Pineapple, Orange, $17). The first time I had it, it was very balanced and very good, and comes in the cool monkey on a surfboard mug. Something went wrong this time, as it tasted like blackberry punch with no other flavors. My friend tried it and had the same opinion. Final rating 3.5 stars downgraded to 3.0 stars for these recent visits. We have always had a good time and enjoyed the drinks, food, and atmosphere at Stowaway. However, these last two visits have had issues with consistency, and three out of my last six drinks were subpar. We will come back again at some point. Hopefully these last two visits were just off nights.

I love a Tiki Bar! This place is large, lots of seating. Typical tiki vibe, bamboo, etc. not as quirky as some that I've visited. Warm lighting. We tried an app, it was good. Nice to have the option to order a snack with the drinks. Drinks were delicious- Everything is better with fire. They have fun tiki mugs for purchase. Staff are dressed in tropical attire, friendly and smiling.

We've been coming to Stowaway for a few years, and it has always been a delight! The Saturn has to be my favorite cocktail, a nice and tart gin-forward drink that a waitress recommended a few visits ago. The only complaint is the parking situation. Can be difficult, if not impossible, to find parking, and Stowaway doesn't offer suggestions on alternatives (you can park in the plaza behind Stowaway, but be warned that that plaza does have the right to tow)

Stowaway will always hold a special place in our hearts. When my husband and I first started dating, their original location at The District in Tustin quickly became our spot. It's where we met our favorite bartender, Grayson, who always made sure we had a memorable time--every visit felt personal, fun, and full of good vibes. While waiting for their new location to open, we checked out their sister bar in San Clemente, The Lost Inferno, and it was incredible. During that visit, we officially met one of the owners, Dominic, and shared just how much we loved Stowaway and how excited we were for their reopening. When Stowaway finally reopened, we made sure to visit right away. Even though the new spot is a little farther than The District, it is absolutely worth the drive. And of course, we had to go see Grayson again--some traditions are too good to let go. That's how much this place means to us: my husband and I even took a couple of our engagement photos there. Stowaway isn't just a bar to us; it's part of our story. If you're looking for a great time, unforgettable drinks, and the best tiki bar around, go to Stowaway. You'll love it just as much as we do.

Ask the Community - Stowaway

I am trying to call Stowaway to check on reservations but nobody is answering, it seems to be an unattended line. Anyone have any inside scooping how I can talk to somebody in person?

That happened to us too, we unfortunately had to go in person. They are so beyond busy.

What is the difference between the indoor seating and tiki bar? Thank you

A table with a server vs the bar top with the bartender.

We just want to go for drinks? Is there a wait for the bar?

Y The whole restraint is a bar, you need to make reservations for all seating.

Is there live music?

Unfortunately there isn't! At least when we went it was just over the speaker & TVs were playing whatever major sport event is happening.

Are gluten-free options available?

Sure, as someone that was raised gluten-free, and has family members with celiac I can confidently say that you have plenty of options here. Skip the gravy on some of the dishes because it would have had flour to thicken it. There's a couple of rice… Read more

What's the volume like? Can you have a calm conversation here?

The music isn't blaring. You can easily have conversations with your friends or make new friends at the bar.

If you're going to be in the belly of the beast, do you have access to stowaway's regular menu of food and drinks too?

Not to my knowledge; the speakeasy has their own specific drink & food menus.

Is this place kid friendly?

No. It's meant for adults to be transported to another place, and forget about their own kids for a brief moment.

Do you have Happy hour?

Yes M-F. They have food and drink specials.

Hi there! I was wanting to see if I was able to get a party of 3 on the waitlist for today, 8/24?…

They currently show 99-129 minutes wait time.

What is the maximum number of people you can accommodate in one party?

Hi! We accept general reservations for a maximum of 8 guests. If you have a larger group, please email us and we would love to assist!

Can a group of 9 be accommodated?

Yes! Please contact us at hello@stowawaytiki.com. Thanks!

I have a party of 7 people, but one of them is my 7 yr old grandson, are children allowed?

Aloha!! Yes we are 100% family friendly!

Are toddlers allowed at magic brunch?

Hi! We are an all ages, family friendly space!

Is there a happy hour?

Yes! Monday through Friday from opening until 6!

Do they serve mocktails?

Yes we do! And we can cater our mocktail to your preferred tastes!

Are the "for 3-4 thirsty people" fishbowl/shareable drinks available yet?

Hi! At this time we only offer the Scorpion Bowl (ON FIRE!) for a shared punch bowl

Since they serve food, are kids allowed?

Yes! Kids of all ages (even the big kids) are welcomed! We only have an age restriction for bar seating.

We attended a special Chartreuse tasting event at Strong Water which was being held in honor of…read moreChartreuse week and Chartreuse Day 1605 (May 16), the annual celebration of Chartreuse's origins and history. The tasting featured a great lineup of green and yellow Chartreuse paired with small bites. It concluded with a complementary Chartreuse-based cocktail from one of five recipes. Brand ambassador Taylor guided the event and began by telling us about the unique history of Chartreuse. The tasting started out with a small spoonful of Vegetal Elixir Chartreuse to warm up the palate. This is the base spirit of both green and yellow Chartreuse and clocks in at 138 proof. It was surprisingly not harsh, but immediately kicked my salivary glands into overdrive. I didn't even know that vintages of Chartreuse was a thing, but Taylor walked us through tasting three different vintages of both yellow and green Chartreuse, and it was surprising how different they were. The lineup concluded with more rare varietals of the green elixir 1605 and yellow cuvee. Great job, thanks Taylor! Chef Kling presented each small bite which included a crispy Icelandic cod, a roasted beet crostino, and a lamb slider. All of them had a five star list of ingredients and were delicious. Strong Water is known for their excellent cocktails, but their food is also great. For my cocktail at the end of the event, I had the Bar Flower (Green Chartreuse, Crème de Cacao, Pineapple, Lime). This was so good, with the herbal and chocolate flavors perfectly balanced. It was served with a flaming lime half. This was such a great event! Chartreuse retails for around $100 a bottle, and the higher-end varieties cost even more. At just $45 per person, this event was an amazing bargain. Strong Water frequently hosts great events, so keep an eye on their social media for upcoming dates. I really love Chartreuse, so I went back a few days later on the last day of Chartreuse week to try a few of the other limited time cocktails. I started out with their twist on a Grasshopper (Chartreuse, Crème de Menthe, Chili Liqueur, Crème de Cacao, Cream, Cane, $22). This was a great classic Grasshopper, but the Chartreuse added a herbal complexity, and there is a dash of heat on the finish from the chili liqueur. Next I had the Flare Gun (Yellow Chartreuse, Overproof Rum, Italian Bitter, Lime, Cane, $20). The yellow Chartreuse definitely comes through, but it's softer and has a light sweetness, unlike the green variety. Even though it contains overproof rum, it is perfectly balanced and not boozy at all. I usually don't like bitter drinks, but the bitterness was at a perfect light level. I finished off with the Tales from the Black Lagoon which is my favorite drink here, and it's also a favorite of many of the bartenders. All three cocktails were a home run. Chartreuse is an expensive spirit, so those drinks cost a little more than average. Shout out to Karen, Joey, Edgar, Jordan, and Ying for excellent hospitality, as always. Strong Water is our favorite place. We can't wait to go back!

Unfortunately, the inside of the Tiki Bar was closed for repairs/upgrades, but we ate on their very pleasant outdoor patio, and luckily, the weather was lovely. I'm not that into Hawaiian type food, no offense to Hawaiians whatsoever, so I found the menu to be a bit limiting. Since I just had a poke bowl the prior night, I didn't want another, even though it was probably what I would've ordered. Most other dishes were with pork, which I don't eat. Instead, I ordered chicken tenders, which is so NOT what I would EVER order, but I did on this day. The chicken was not overly greasy, and it had good flavor. The fries were even better. The poke bowl looked gorgeous, and the 3 others who got that said it was delicious, although not nearly as much salmon as they were hoping for... and it had way too much rice. (Those of us who had poke bowls from the previous night had loads of ahi tuna and the perfect amount of rice.) My husband enjoyed his bacon cheeseburger, something I'd never get. Not a fan of bacon AT ALL. My grandchildren got the chicken tenders like their grandma. :-) We ate our food to being serenaded with live music on the patio. Nice touch. I think most people come here to drink cocktails, although we didn't since we were about to make a long trek home up the I-5.
