We had a great experience with Mike Stott Tree Service. I was looking for a service that wouldn't hack my liquid amber into a coat rack. I explained this fear over the phone and was assured that they do selective pruning. Mike and Carlos came for the estimate. Both were very knowledgeable. I also asked if they could prune my pomegranate tree which had grown out of control. Their estimate was very reasonable. We set up a time/date for the very next day. Mike and Carlos did a thorough initial inspection and I had the estimate in my hands by the time they left. They are the guys who are on site to supervise the work crew so information does not have to be repeated. The team arrived promptly, put down tarps and plywood to protect plants and other areas, worked steadily and clearly know what they are doing with 70-foot-tall trees. They took down 5 large trees, thinned 5 trees that had not been touched in 30 years, ground out stumps and cleared dense vegetation. Most of the work was on a 45-degree or steeper slope that is some distance from the street. They exceeded my expectations and did a more thorough and extensive project than I expected. Mike and Carlos showed up on Monday afternoon and gave me a quote to trim and shape all 8 trees which was beyond reasonable for all the trees which included a huge cedar and palm tree. They asked if Tuesday morning would be a good time to start and I said Yes. I don't know why but at least for me trimming trees is like a trip to the dentist, necessary but not enjoyable, and kills my pocketbook. I've used a couple of tree services over the years but have never really been satisfied with them. They were not bad, just eh. and I always felt like I was getting totally ripped off during the entire process. I decided to give Mike Stott a try based on the fact that his name kept on coming up on several community pages when people asked about tree trimming. Immediately from my first conversation, I felt at ease. I like doing business with people who have been in Burbank for a long time. Mike was very friendly, and kept me informed about when he was able to come out with an estimate and also with his scheduling. I had the team out today to do the job (take down a rubber tree that was literally growing into my garage and trimming a very overgrown orange tree) and I can easily say, it was a very no nonsense, positive experience. Mike let me know exactly when they were showing up on the day of the job and reconfirmed everything with me. On the day of the job, Carlos and the crew came out and they were nothing short of amazing. One item that stood out, I have a 100 pound tortoise and they took extra care without me even asking to protect his heated house. They did the job in record time and explained how and why they trimmed the orange tree and it still looks great and has its canopy instead of just butchering it like many tree companies are prone to do. I can honestly say after their cleanup, my yard looked better than it did before. I think like many people I was using a somewhat smaller job to test the waters and see if I liked them and so when the job was finished, I took the opportunity to ask about several other trees in my yard. We bought a new house with lots of trees WAY too close to the foundation, and some even damaging the roof. We booked with Mike Stott and they were very accommodating, willing to schedule on the weekend. It was a big job, so they brought 13 people out, and worked non-stop for 2 days cutting down 15 trees and trimming down a dozen others. They did no damage to the house and kept the yard relatively clean afterward. They bring a full crew. Truck, clean as they go. The job is supervised. Some people may think that they are pricey, but the truth is you will get what you pay for with them. They are like arborists. Which is critical at my house I purchased a house with 2 eighty year old Magnolia trees that had been horribly trimmed prior to us purchasing the house. These trees should've never been planted in Burbank because of the amount of water that they need, but they were. And they looked horrible when we purchased the house. Because of their care, the trees are magnificent today and they corrected a lot of the horrible problems that the previous tree trimmers had done. And it is very important to get a company that actually know what they're doing and not someone that just took up tree trimming and will over cut your trees to the point that they're almost dead. Something serious to think about. Do you want someone that's going to cause damage and also the aesthetics look ridiculous when they cut too much of a tree down. All I can say is that the nearly unanimous five star reviews for Stott Tree Service are well deserved. I recently had them remove a large tree from my backyard that was jeopardizing the house foundation, and I couldn't be more satisfied with their work. Everything was done exactly as planned, with excellent communication throughout the project. I appreciate the great care they took so as not to damage the house or the surrounding plants. After the tree was removed, they ground the stump and removed the remaining surface roots to eliminate any tripping hazard. In addition, I had them prune an adjacent tree which had been badly crowded by the removed one, and they did a beautiful job on it. Both Mike and Carlos are very knowledgeable, and are obviously perfectionists in their work. Their crew is also friendly and highly skilled, and works extremely well together. I had a tree in my front yard that was touching the house and disproportionally large. Last time I hired a company to trim this tree a few years ago they hacked it so much it was no longer an attractive tree and I was worried they had killed it. Carlos with Stott's tree service, on the other hand, did a very skilled and meticulous job. I could tell he was thinking about every branch they cut. He took more time trimming this one tree than the last company took to trim four. I was really impressed by the sense of pride I could see him take in his work. Mike Stott and his team of guys did a great job for a reasonable price! I have a huge Magnolia, a Chinese Elm and a Cypress tree in my front yard. They got rid of all of the dead branches, trimmed the circumferences and shaped them all in a very clean natural way. They took all the branches and trimmings away with them as well as cleaning off the leaves, etc on my roof. I had a lot trimmed on my neighbors side of their driveway (because I am the Nice neighbor- Not them) and the Stotts team cleaned up their driveway afterwards too with brooms, blowers etc. Hire these guys. When I was looking for a company to clean up and shape the yucca tree in my backyard, several friends recommended Mike. Mike is responsive, gets back to voice mails / messages promptly and came out to give me quote within days. His business partner Carlos came out today with a group of guys and within 1-1/2 hours, my yucca tree went from drab to fab. They cleaned up the tree, took all the dead leaves and branches out, shaped it nicely and took all the cut offs away. Middle sized job: Two overgrown oaks (decent rain will do that), large shade tree, trim another away from the roof, removal of two stunted trees and an indescribable bush. We figured 3/4 of a day's work for a good crew. After quotes and no shows by two other highly rated companies (one of which we'd employed before, which was frustrating) we found and called Stott's, a local Burbank company. Mike and crew stopped by and provided a competitive quote the same day we called. Mike's bid was spot on. We scheduled a day, they showed up on time, took a few minor requests and adjustments from us in stride and got to work. The crew was efficient, checked in with the neighbors for access (the oaks were out of control, across properties), checked in with us to show progress and confirm a few minor questions. As they wrapped they cleaned up thoroughly, including the neighbors' yards and the street where the grinder was parked. Bonus: they cleared our gutters! They were more thorough than our regular mow and blow guy. As noted, pricing was fair and competitive for a skilled crew with attention to detail, and personable to boot. We had a couple of the invasive Ailanthus Altissima (Tree of Heaven) trees on our property, whose roots had destroyed my paved patio and driveway, as well as sprout dozens of saplings a year, and with the strong Santa Ana winds knocking down my neighbor's tree into my Driveway and some shade trees in the back being off balance, it was time to call in the professionals! I met with several companies and in the end I am happy I went with Mike! While his quote was not the cheapest, his team spent the most time evaluating the property and discussing options. Mike is a straight shooter and his team is very professional, taking out 2 trees, grinding out the roots, and safety trims on two others! I am not concerned about the winds knocking a tree into my house anymore, and I have yet to see a new Tree of Heaven appear (a weekly occurrence before). Mike also checked in a few days after to make sure I was still satisfied with the work or if anything else came up.
