JOY is an absolute... JOY. She went above and beyond to ensure my birthday weekend spent up in the mountains was as special as possible by working with my on a convenient pick up time, as well as a very good price on their PREMIUM PINON WOOD from Mexico!! When I arrived, JOY was waiting with my order ready - and on top of that, she helped stack everything in my car AND explained carefully what made this wood so very special (hard, slow-burning, with a fantastic campfire scent that would make for a heavenly log-cabin getaway experience). NOTE that when I first called, the other Owner, MIKE (JOY'S husband) was abrupt and told me they only sold wood at certain times of the day and then hung up - but when I reached out with a plea for help to the Owners - JOY was swift to respond and incredibly compassionate. For her going above and beyond they get the 5 stars... Judging from the other reviews on here... MIKE is VERY LUCKY to have JOY as his partner - he clearly does not always love his job and clearly has a habit of being unkind or apparently in some cases, unfair. The good news first -- I bought my first cord of wood. Hooray, I'm a grown-up now! We may use this company again but I'm definitely going to try some other places first. As far as the product goes, I honestly can't tell if I got a good deal or not. Prices are not listed on their website which says to me as a customer, this company has "flexible pricing." I paid $255 ($225 wood + $30 delivery) for a half cord of mixed wood. The stack was very tall but pretty airy. I did some light re-stacking both to get a better idea of how much wood was there and also because the stack was so tall and airy a slight push would have knocked the whole thing over. The re-stacking took the pile down to a lot closer to the actual 1/2 cord size (2' x 4' x 8'). The wood is highly irregular -- some pieces are as long as 20" and some are as short as 10" -- making measuring that much more difficult. I'm sure some more experienced wood-buyer could tell me if I got a good deal or not, but as for me I really can't tell you. The guy who you'd think could explain to me how his product is a better value then the guy down the street was no help at all. As others have said on here, Mike is a chore to work with. I'm not saying I like it, but we pretty much live in a buyer-beware culture now. Mike really wants you to trust him without any evidence he's remotely trustworthy. As a first time wood-buyer, I got a tape measure out to check the stack and Mike seemed really put off by this. He's not a great salesman, since sales 101 is all about winning the trust of your customers. If I was selling a great product at a great value, I'd encourage people to look it over in great detail. People want value and service, so discouraging your customers from sizing up your product is never good service. I'm more of a deal guy and will work with any condescending jerk that can deliver good quality at a good price. Since I'm not sure I got that, and since I know others are all about the service, I'll just sum up by saying, don't plan on getting any help from Mike with your wood purchase. You will get his philosophy on trust, technology and who's a good tipper or not but not a whole lot of information on his product and why it's a good value. My advice to first-time buyers is to ask Google and know what you want before you call. Like I said, I may use this company again and will update my review once I have more experience to share. read more

I called on a Thursday afternoon, and placed an order for a half cord of mixed almond and oak. I spoke with a very friendly and informative woman (I think her name was Joy), and she gave me the price rundown on all the various ways I could order soft wood, hard wood, mixed wood, etc. The next morning, a couple of guys from Mike's delivered my order, right at the start of the time window Joy had given me (it's always a plus when the time window is actually the time window, instead of the time window + 2 hours for some reason). They stacked the half cord behind my house in about an hour, making a very stable pile that isn't going anywhere. Then they used a leaf blower to clean up all the bits of bark and stuff that had fallen on the ground between the truck and the pile, and they even cleaned up the rest of my patio and my porch. They were incredibly friendly, super polite, and got their work done quickly and efficiently. So the firewood is important, right? The quality of the wood is great. It's all dry and seasoned, and perfectly sized for my fireplace. I ended up spending $390 for the mix of wood, plus delivery. It's an entirely fair price to pay for the service and product, and I'll be ordering from Mike's whenever I need more firewood. read more

Welp, I actually didn't order from him so I'm not sure how the wood is . I was so turned off by the condescending guy on the phone. Talking wood, burning heat, I'm just looking for answers so I know what wood I should buy. Ready to place an order right now. But, the "women like the way the wood smells" and the "delivery is apparently because you don't want to load it in your car and take it home" when I asked what does delivery include. Yes mr macho man. I am a woman who had questions on purchasing wood and what would be best for me. I do apologize for not being a part of the man clan and not gathering wood with the other knuckle draggers. Do yourself a favor and treat women like a customer, not some girl chewing gum twirling her hair asking useless questions. You're supposed to be the expert. Guy is rude and overpriced. Said he'd charge more if he had to walk more than ten feet to stack the wood. So many other places to buy wood. So this may be a strange review for a firewood location. I needed wood for centerpieces at a wedding. Called a couple places and they could not help. Contacted Mike's and they said sure come by. They had various large piece's of wood and I was able to pick some eucalyptus and cedar. Mike and his son cut them on the spot. Very helpful and wonderful customer service. I did not bring cash so they loaded my car and let me come back to pay. They even let me take some pictures. Thanks Mike and Josh! Great wood, nice people. They delivered on time and cleaned up with a leaf blower when done. The reason I only gave 4 of 5 stars is for the delivery fee, little expensive in my opinion. I got a 1/2 cord of mixed wood, delivered & stacked for $310 ($45 of the $310 is the stacking fee due to the wood location being more then 10' from their truck). I bought a mixed 1/2 chord for about $300 delivered a few years ago. I asked Mike (Owner) if I can have a 1/4 chord delivered back then and have him deliver the 1/4 later since I had limited room. I offered to pay another delivery and stacking fee down the line. We did not discuss any timeframe for the second delivery. He agreed on the arrangement. At the time he seemed to be a friendly and nice fellow so I just trusted him. I called him recently to have the second portion of the wood delivered. He remembered me and the transaction clearly but in a few words told me sorry too many years had passed. I kept quite as he lectured me how he is not in a business of storing wood for people. I thought quietly to myself this is the same wood he buys, stores, and sells on a daily basis? What does he mean store wood for me? If anything he got my money in advance. Anyway not to escalate things I kept my mouth shut as he lectured me for 3 minutes. Then he finally came around and said that he would only charge me $110 for the remaining wood which included delivery and stacking. I figured for the extra $80 dollars he was screwing me out of, it was not worth arguing about. I figured I was still getting the wood at a discounted rate. So I agreed to his offer. He was supposed to deliver the wood yesterday, he called me thursday and told me he was going to leave the wood at the gate and for me to leave a check for him If I was not going to be home. I told him the $110 included the stacking. He went bonkers and started talking down to me. He was sarcastic and condesending telling me the $110 did not include the stacking. He spoke loud and slow repeating himself like I was some sort of retard. If he had a decent attitude I would have let him screw me out of another $20 for the stacking. BUT I JUST HAD ENOUGH oF HIM. I was about to leash out some choice words but instead I bit my tongue and told him to keep his wood. I politely said Mike I don't need your wood just keep it and hung up, Yes Mike won! He got to keep his wood. This type of customer service though might hurt him in the long run. In fact, I had two friends that were going to order wood for him .I guess that's no tgoing to happen! :) It was never about the money. Even if he offered me nothing but was nice about it, I might of still continued to buy. He just has a real attitude problem: arrogant, condesending, sarcastic, and self righteous. Okay people have bad months, maybe I caught him on a bad month. If that is the case then my prayers are with him. Again the wood is decent. He might even be friendly and pleasant when you meet him. Just make sure you get all your wood delivered and stacked before you pay him a dime. The good news is this bad experience in a way was blessing because it prompted me to sign up on Yelp! read more

I have been getting firewood from Mike and Firewood Sales for a few years and highly recommend them. To the reviewer who compares their wood to grocery store wood - are you a complete idiot. Grocery store wood is cheap junk that burns up in a second. This is good quality wood that is dry and burns great. Just compare the weight to a grocery store log. I have bought wood from a few different firewood vendors in LA and these guys are the best in quality - plus they deliver and stack if you want them to. read more

I purchased $50 worth of mix fire wood today. The guy (who was very friendly) gave me a total of 38 pieces of wood which included the very small pieces and good size pieces. I compare that to grocery store where they sell 5-6 pieces of packaged wood for $6 ($1.20 each if there is 5) all of which are good size compare to what I get here ($1.30 a piece) for low quality and small wood, I would say this is an absolute overcharge and rip off. I wish they were fair so I could buy from them all the time since they are really close to me. Can you imagine it is cheaper to buy from Smart and Final than this place. read more
