This is an excellent hobby store that I stopped by while passing through town. There was a display layout running by the door and it was fun to watch a Big Boy snake through the layout with a long train. Note that they don't have any wooden (Brio/Thomas) trains in stock, though they did have some O gauge Thomas train sets. Since I didn't have a list of things I needed, I was most just browsing. The owner was very pleasant as I rattled off a list of one-off items and helped me locate what I was looking for. We discussed custom runs for a bit, as well as the the future of the hobby. He clearly knew his stuff, and watching him assist some new modelers with simple, direct answers without an up-sell attached was refreshing. There is a dearth of good full-service hobby shops these days, and yet this one manages to rise above. I highly recommend it.

Walt's is a pretty big hobby shop, with a wide variety of stuff, including RC cars and planes,…read moreplastic models, model rockets, and lots of random supplies for making cool stuff, including paints, balsa, dowels, glues, etc. And as big as it is, there's an even bigger space out back with an RC car track, a crawler track, and even an extra meeting room. That's where Walt's really shines -- long after the posted hours, they open the space to all sorts of local hobby groups. I've been there with a rocket club in the back room, RC cars going on the track, and yet another group up front, meeting in the actual hobby shop part. The staff is super-friendly, and willing to help out and offer suggestions for whatever kind of project you want to take on. If you need hobby stuff, this is a great place to go in the Syracuse area.

The employees here will straight lie to your face with zero shame…read more So the item I was looking for was listed as in stock online. Great. So I go to the store and the item isn't on the shelf, but I see the overstock in the bin below. I pull out the bin to look. The super tall woman with the short blonde hair walks up to me, off the start with an attitude and asks "can I help you". I said yes, and named off the item I was looking for and said that I don't see it on the shelf. Her response was that they probably don't sell it anymore without even checking. I told her it was in the bin below, so to clarify, even if it is available in the store, just because they didn't put it out, they won't sell it. She says yes. So I go up front and ask the other associate the same question. She looks at me like I'm crazy and says that's definitely not true. I explained that it's what her coworker just told me and her attitude changes. She proceeds to try and tell me that it probably wasn't what she meant, even though they were her words, and that it's just too much to stock the yarn aisle in one shift. She pulls the item number from me, walks back, looks in one box and says they don't have it. I told her it's listed available to pick up online so then she tells me I need to order it online to pick it up from the same store tomorrow when I LITERALLY SEE WHERE IT IS STOCKED. This is why the stores keep going out of business. The employees literally don't want to do the one thing they are there to do and sell you the stuff in the store.

Oh boy, did they ever come through!! Three times the amount of beads, for a third of the price!! Wow! And, they were 50% off!! Thrilled!! The yarn, on the other hand, was very "meh".
