It's jam packed with all sorts of neat, unique items that you don't find at the other big box stores. Nearly all of the inventory has educational value with a heavy concentration on free form play. My niece is exceptionally gifted and we struggle to find gifts for her that actually stimulate her. She's blessed with a mind that visualizes solutions quickly. I picked up several brain teasers I've never seen elsewhere, some card games that seemed as if they may challenge her and a hanging seat for my son that I've looked for elsewhere without success. The woman at the counter was incredibly knowledgeable about her products and took the time to go get a former demo item so I could be certain I was purchasing something I'd enjoy. I live several hours away from this store, but plan to make another trip down soon for birthday and holiday gifts. I wish she was closer to my house, but then again I'd spend a fortune at her store. This little trip cost me $250, but I have no guilt because they seem to be unique, well made toys with a heavy emphasis on educational components! I'll be back... With more money and men to carry out my bags!

The Riverwood DOES NOT PAY THE ARTISTS who's products they profit off of…read more We're a small, artist-run company called Cactus Club Paper Goods who create stickers and greeting cards of animals and plants we paint. At the beginning of 2022, Riverwood placed an order with us at a trade show under a net30 agreement (meaning they had 30 days to pay us for the wholesale products they bought). They took a receipt with our terms and conditions. It has now been over a year and we still haven't received payment. We have emailed, called, left voicemails, and used their live chat function on their website for over a year and were completely stone-walled. Last week, we finally got a response... They said they sold our products and didn't communicate or pay us because NYC has seized their assets. We felt bad for their situation so we offered a couple solutions to help them out, including waiving all their late fees. They told us to: "F*** off and get a life". And: "Great I'm done talking you you. Feel free to blast me out there and try to destroy another humans life. We will do the same to you." We don't understand the lack of professionalism and we still need them to pay us. They had every opportunity to return any products for a full refund (we'd even pay the shipping). We invested our time and money to create these products and we need stores to pay us to stay in business. We've been as kind as possible and have given them over a year to work with us, but they decided to be unprofessional and vulgar. Our company is only two people and this is our only livelihood. If they feel they can take advantage of us, I can't imagine who else they feel justified in taking advantage of. When you purchase a product at Riverwood, the artists and companies that made that product are seeing no money and Riverwood is keeping 100% of the profit. This is unethical and very wrong.

We did not purchase that game but we did find a bunch of other cool dice to swap out for the plain, boring dice that come with Yahtzee. Everything should have a touch of the original, I think. My son selected a game called "Butts in Space", we have not played it yet but it looks like a hilarious winner. They have toys for people of all ages, something for everyone for sure.

There was a display layout running by the door and it was fun to watch a Big Boy snake through the layout with a long train. Note that they don't have any wooden (Brio/Thomas) trains in stock, though they did have some O gauge Thomas train sets. Since I didn't have a list of things I needed, I was most just browsing. The owner was very pleasant as I rattled off a list of one-off items and helped me locate what I was looking for. We discussed custom runs for a bit, as well as the the future of the hobby. He clearly knew his stuff, and watching him assist some new modelers with simple, direct answers without an up-sell attached was refreshing. There is a dearth of good full-service hobby shops these days, and yet this one manages to rise above. I highly recommend it.
