Greeted by a friendly and helpful young lady who answered all our questions. I loved the atmosphere and overall vibe. I found a cool book on the Songbirds of North America with a disk of actual songs. There are plenty of books to browse through and the prices are very reasonable. My only complaint by my sister was no database to assist in the search, but I was okay as I enjoyed perusing the shelves. Will be back !!!

Tails is located in a convenient spot downtown with good parking spaces all around it. It's easy to pop inside take a peek (or stay for an hour) and go shop at another store, like the Paper Gourmet about 20 feet away. Tails is open Monday-Friday 11:00am to 5:00pm and Saturday 10am-2:00pm. Real hours! Not bad for an all-volunteer business. They have a fairly wide selection (which means for any book lover it's hard to leave empty-handed). Lots of Scholastic books for kids. Some military history. Recent NY Times bestsellers, too. Many of the books are in new condition and so you can even do your Christmas shopping here. Some books definitely are not pristine, but that's okay. There are suggested donation prices posted (that even Amazon can't beat) and if you're feeling generous tell them to "keep the change" and know that the dogs and cats will really appreciate your generosity. If you're a bibliophile looking for a fun, friendly volunteer opportunity, this is it. Apply within. Do you have books you no longer want? Hard for some of us to believe, but if you need to re-home some of your literary friends then please consider donating them to Tails. I had been donating mine to the library, but now most of them go to Tails (sorry EPL). They will take books as well as magazines. Drop them off and enjoy the good feeling you get from sharing them with others. It does have one downside, for me. Given the recent renovation inside the building, the place off-gases like crazy. I'm hopeful that as time goes on it will resolve itself, but please use no VOC-paint and finish next time guys (who I realize are not affiliated with Tails, so let's not take it out on them). Overall, it's a cozy book nook that you can peacefully enjoy and even make new friends. The volunteers that I've met have all been sweet, kind, and very helpful. Now for those avid readers looking for an orderly used book store ... you might have to look elsewhere. But if you are looking for a book store with thousands of used books ... with only a basic framework to the organization of inventory ... this is your place. Set in an old cottage-style home that has been granted Landmark Status in this residential neighborhood, there are books everywhere ... in the basement, on the first floor, and supposedly in each and every room. Most of the books are on shelves, but many are in assorted stacks. The owner/manager of the place is a wonder all to himself. Friendly and outgoing, he actually does know where the major genres are in his layout, and he can help you get close to what you seek. The rest is up to you. The owner is always buying additional used books to flesh out the collection, so that could be a thing for those that are interested. On the buy side, if the owner doesn't have it ... he can probably find you what you want. The store is also complemented with a wonderful old watchdog that is almost on his last legs ... but he will get up and greet you if you have a few minutes. He adds to the overall ambience of this historic building. Now for those that have forgotten: Erasmus was a Dutch humanist, Catholic theologian, and pioneering philologist (philology being the study of literary texts and oral and written records) and we assume the source of the store's name. All in all this was a great stop on our visit ... and we'll be sure to do it again.
