Sure, it's a Stop & Shop, but it's a Stop & Shop with a Starbucks, so my dumb millennial self is super happy to visit! Where else can you get an iced passion fruit tea and browse around aisle upon aisle of frozen foods, organic seaweed snacks, and make friends with lobsters in a tank on the seafood counter? Or is that just me? Anyway, I've been very impressed recently with the quality of the various grocery stores I've visited while in Westchester, and the Somers Stop & Shop is an excellent addition to that roster. The employees always are friendly and attentive, especially the young man who was working behind the seafood station, and didn't mind that my boyfriend and I were asking him a million questions about lobsters. You rock, seafood dude. Don't change! What can I say? This store has little if any positives. To start with the parking lot is a nightmare with too many points of entry and exit. There are two entrances and exits one at either end of the store which probably is one of the only positives. The odor in the foyer areas of both entrances is downright foul. Is it asking too much for the first impression not to be an odor to a gym locker. I mean after all, people are there to purchase FOOD!‍ The store staff is a combination of unfriendly people who neither smile or care that you're there and those who I imagine were always picked last for teams in school. Most of them are on the mobile devices and act as though you're bothering them if you have a question. Sadly the days of personal service are gone. Now there's an employee who stands guard at the end of the registers as Customers check themselves out and bag their own items. Sad. The best thing about this Stop & Shop is most likely the Starbucks, but apart from the physical location, they don't have anything to do with the store. The Pharmacy is pretty bad. On more than one occasion I've witnessed people arriving to pick up prescriptions because they were called to do so, only to find out they weren't even filled. Some of the Staff are pretty rude and lack basic Customer Service skills. In particular the matronly older woman with red hair can be nasty. There was a younger counter girl but I imagine she was let go. She had the memory retention of a Chimpanzee. There's a nice young man who works the counter there who is unfailingly polite and caring (God help him!). The best Pharmacist is the young man with dirty blonde hair. The WORST are the old balding White man with large nose and the NASTY Asian woman who both need to get some. Life's too short to be so nasty. The Deli is a major PITA. I'd rather go give blood than to wait in line here. You're better off going to a REAL ITALIAN DELI and getting some nice cold cuts. I've tried this deli and I gotta say even though it's Boars Head it didn't taste like it. To make matters worse the guy who resembled Tattoo from Fantasy Island looked like it had been a while since his body had encountered soap and water. EWWWW! No Thanks. Overall the store needs a thorough cleaning and some staff pride. When this place first opened there was plenty of staff and smiling faces. Now everyone looks like they're in hospice and gave up. I purchase a package of (SB TURKEY WINGS) when I opened the package the Shady Brook farm pkg said turkey wing portions ( the wings with the Tip were conveniently placed on the bottom by Shady Brook) the Shady Brook label said previously handled as frozen nothing about that from S&S The S&S label was conveniently placed over the pkg label. Just came back from first "early shopping" at my local store. Limits in place but shelves pretty well stocked. (No baking powder though. Guess everyone's baking!). Used the self checkout and the gal there was wonderful: pleasant, helpful and a bright light on this gloomy and stressful day. Wish I had thanked her profusely while I was there but she did make morning. Thanks to ALL the staff there, always very helpful. read more

This would be a great store if it wasn't for the deli department. They're painfully slow, loud and unsanitary. Few people wear hair nets and those with long hair don't keep it under their hats and are over their shoulders. And none of the bearded men wear masks like they should! I found a hair on my cut prosciutto. Gross! Never going there again. Tell your friends. read more

This review is for their Pharmacy Dept only. My wife and I entered the store tonight at about 7 she went about her regular shopping while I went directly to the Pharmacy to get a no cost Flu shot which was advertised. There were no customers there and a young lady in a white DRs coat approached me. When I asked for a flu shot she asked me if I had a red and white card. I had no idea what a red and white card was however after a few minutes I discovered that she was asking for my Medicare card. She took it from me and gave me a paper to fill out with about 20 questions. She took the paper and not another word after. She started taking care of customers and filling out drawers with medicines. All this time there was a young man at the computer standing motionless I almost felt that he was a mannequin. No one telling me what was going to happen. Was the girl going to give me the shot or the mannequin and how much longer was I going to wait. At this time my wife finished her shopping, checked out and came to the Pharmacy to retrieve me. She could not believe that I was still standing there and neither the girl in the white coat or the mannequin were giving me any info as to what's going on? I must have peeked through the mannequins glass partition twice as I couldn't get near him as there was a bench in the way. This guy who is supposed to be a respected server turned out to be obnoxious when he called out to me " Sir, I would appreciate it it you would stop staring at me" I was shocked at his nasty remark and never thought to answer him back. I should have said " And I would appreciate it if you would tell me how much longer I have to wait Lucille D,, there is still absolutely no reason your friend Matt the mannequin kept me waiting for at least 20 minutes without a single word from either him or the fictitious Dr. I was totally ignored for no reason at all. There were no customers there. Maybe they just don't like ugly old m. I would like to add one more comment about this experience. Hello again, it's been awhile since my last review. I pretty much love everything about this Stop-n-Shop including the Pharmacy (they go up and beyond), Starbucks (super friendly except waiting in line gets congested), Customer Service (very efficient, friendly and attentive to your needs), Store Hours (open until midnight), Produce (always fresh with a great selection although I wish their organic section had more choices and was consistently stocked). Seafood (I don't eat much but the fish is displayed nicely and looks appetizing). Selection (if you can't find it here, it's probably not made). The only complaint I have is the deli section. I do understand how hectic it can get at times which can make any employee a little grumpy but the workers behind the counter have no personality whatsoever. They have a glazed look in their eyes when it's your turn to place your order and every time they weigh my item they say "it's a little over, is that ok?" If I order a half pound, please don't slice almost 3/4 and ask if I'm alright with it. I feel embarrassed to say "no, it's not alright". After ordering 6 different items with them all being over the weight I asked for, it can add up to an extra $5-$10. This isn't a once in awhile occurrence, it's every time. Hey deli workers, a smile and a "how are you today" goes a long way and PLEASE wipe down the slicing machines even when you're busy. It is disgusting to watch you place my food onto the machines with mounds of old dried up meat. Again, I understand how busy this deli counter is and the employees don't have a chance to breathe at times but you're in the food industry and your customers health is on the line so please keep your work area clean throughout the day. My family and I have been using the Stop&Shop Pharmacy in Baldwin Place for over 10 years. We have always had positive experiences. Matt the pharmacist is exceptionally great at what he does. Not only is he friendly and wonderful to talk to, he always informs my family of side effects and answers any questions that we have even before we ask them. Even for non-prescription items whenever we have questions he is eager to help. He has given flu shots to our whole family and has a very gently touch and a sense in humor that put my mother who has anxiety with needles at ease.
