And don't bother trying to utilize the pickup option, it's pretty likely they won't notice your check in in the app or answer your call no matter how many times you let it ring, and, even if they do answer, they may very well take in excess of half an hour after your call to bring your order to your vehicle. Most things are out of date or if they are "good" you'll still open a store brand can of green beans & it'll look like this. The store & corporate handled this situation completely wrong, including sending me back to the store to retrieve this disgusting can so they could test it. Horrible. I saw a display with nacho chips that had no utensils, gloves, napkins, or plates. Anyone could reach in with their handss if an unaware child reached in, they would be open to disease. I told two nearby workers about it. One of them said "I wouldn't buy that s@it" and they went back to talking. The display didn't even advertise the brand of chips. Might be one of the more revolting grocery stores I've ever been in, which is crazy given it is a major non-discount chain, located in one of the more affluent areas of a first-world country. It always smells like rotten meat and produce in here, and most of the shelves are semi-bare. The source of the smell is apparent when you get to the meat section, where most of the poultry is leaking or covered in sticky blood, and 90% of the beef is already grey. On top of all this, there is always only 1-2 cashiers moving at a snail's pace, and the prices are on par with higher end stores like Roche Brothers. This place is the pits, and should only be visited in times of desperation. read more

What a DUMP! I can't believe Stop & Shop is willing to keep their name on this store (as it is, the name is practically falling off the store-- the front of the building, including the sign is so beat up it looks derelict). Yeah, the produce sucks. There used to be a bad smell by the milk section (they finally replaced it), the ceiling leaks in places. But my biggest complaint is that it is HORRIBLY understaffed. I only go there when I'm desperate and even then, I realize I should have gone somewhere else because when you hit the check-out line, you need to be prepared to kill about half and hour. (Don't buy icecream. It'll be melted by the time you leave the store.) I've heard people who shop there regularly really complaining about it. Shame on Stop & Shop. This is a garden variety grocery store. It is serviceable, but not great. I like that there are always friendly staff members who are willing to help when I need something. I like that there is always plenty of parking and there is always a shopping cart available (unlike at the Stop and Shop in Jamaica Plain, where there is never a cart, and all the shopping carts that do exist only have three functioning wheels). This store generally carries 80% of the things I want to buy. Unfortunately, this store is also missing a lot. There is no aisle dedicated to offerings of Nature's Promise, which is Stop and Shop's store-brand organic line. Neighboring stores in Jamaica Plain and Dedham both offer that. There is no option to scan as you shop, which makes checking out a much longer wait than it is in Quincy or Dedham, which both offer self-scanning technology at the door. Both Dedham and Quincy also sell wine and beer in store. That may be harder to do in the city given regulations, but Dedham is just much more convenient for me given all the reasons above. I'd want to make this my neighborhood grocery store since it's close to where I live, but for now it's worth it to me to travel to the next town over for a better selection. read more

I'm reviewing my grocery store. Yep, that's right. Stop & Shops need love, too! There isn't anything profound to be found here. It's your standard Stop & Shop. They carry the normal grocery goods, with a particular emphasis on ethnic foods. Due to the diverse population in Roslindale, you can find many international products here that you may not find at other local grocers. That makes it a little different. The service also sets it apart just a little - in a bad way. I mean, you never really expect stellar customer service or happy smiling faces at any grocery store, but most of the cashiers here make it clear that they could care less about you. You don't even get an acknowledgement. How awkward is it to work your way through a transaction without having the employee say a single word to you? You might not even get eye contact. And they shamelessly check (and laugh at) whatever it is on their cell phones that is so important or entertaining that their job (ahem - acknowledging customers in their line) actually becomes an interruption. It actually makes you want to use the self checkouts - same level of human interaction (none) - without the blatant disrespect or attitude. Horrible employees aside, this is a regular S&S with a little extra variety of groceries. read more

This Stop and Shop is on my way home from work. Usually short lines, good produce, everything I want, including my favorite Chobanis. I don't know why someone called the new store bad because believe me, the old store this one replaced was as Ann D. said, falling apart. It was a dump. This is a tremendous improvement. The new store is big, clean, and should have everything you need. Convenient. Has a gas station that for some reason is slightly more expensive than the one in Dedham.. but will work in a pinch. read more

Sunday afternoon grocery shopping, usually a nightmare. NOT HERE. The place is brand new. Parking spots a'plenty. When you walk in you are greeted by bright lights and friendly smiles. The deli is efficient and quick. The aisles are big enough for TWO way cart traffic. The prices are comprable to other area groceries. Everything is clearly laid out. If you have ever been to a stop and shop, chances are you can find your way around here. Sigh. Grocery heaven. OH and the self checkout machines STILL have real live humans bagging your groceries. now THAT is a luxury. The Stop & Shop in Roslindale is a terrible place to shop. If I had a reliable car I would drive to the one in Dedham instead. The produce in the Roslindale store is awful! The vegetables are always wilted, and the fruit always mushy. When I asked the manager what the problem was, he didn't seem to think it was an important issue; he said the temperatures were "messed up." I've been shopping there on and off for years, and it's within the past 9 months that the produce section went to pieces. That's a long time for the temperature to be messed up. I no longer buy fruits or veggies there, I make a second trip to another store for those items. Furthermore, there are never enough cashiers, often there are only one or two, and no baggers. I frequently bag my own groceries to save time. read more

They tell me that this is the "new" version of the store. Good thing they did, because I never would have known. This is the closest big grocery store to my new house and I avoid it like the plague. I feel like it's ALWAYS busy. It also seems really dark. Every time I go in, I feel like lights are broken or something. Being shadowy and dingy-feeling because of that is not what I want in a place where I buy my food! I am very aware that I've been going to one grocery store for the past five years and that getting to know a new one is going to be challenging. That being said, I still feel like things are difficult to find. For example, not all the dairy is together in one section. Instead, it wraps around the outside of the store starting in the back. I feel like the bread is hiding at the far right end of the store near the frozen aisles. I haven't personally experienced any poor customer service, but I haven't really needed anything. There's plenty of parking, but if you're walking, like me, there's no crosswalk to get to this plaza nearest the S&S. You're on your own to cross American Legion Highway! Also, VERY IMPORTANT: when I first moved here, I had to try three times to find this place! The map on the Stop & Shop website brought me to a completely different area of American Legion Hwy!! So did my map app on my phone- it sent me over to where the Wendy's is near Walk Hill St. The actual location of the plaza is in/toward Roslindale after where AL Hwy crosses Cummins Hwy. read more

This is not one of the better Stop&Shop stores. Yes, it's SO much better than the gross old building that used to live here, however, it could be SO much better. This was one of the first Stop&Shop's that opened, and from the previous store, the management team MUST have at some point realized the store gets very busy and would be useful to be a Super Stop&Shop. When they rebuilt this entire plaza, expanding this store into one of the many outlets or expanding back would have been useful in making the store better, and an enjoyable experience to customers. This store is consistently packed and the checkout area is ALWAYS completely cluttered, congested, and never ONE time will you go and not have to wait at least 20 minutes to check out. They normally only have about 5 registers open, including self checkout, and each line moves slower than a snail. I was SO annoyed the other day when I came to this store. It was extremely annoying and disappointing. The rest of the store isn't too great, but it has all of the essentials. Normally everything is pretty well priced, and lots of items are always on sale. Besides Manager Dick (who is very kind, friendly, and helpful), staff normally are helpful, but none are overly friendly and always seem annoyed (they should be though... this location is always understaffed!). The parking lot does get busy, but spots are always available. To the side of the parking lot, there is a Stop&Shop Gas Station that is great! The gas is always the cheapest around, and much cheaper than the Stop&Shop Gas Station in Dedham, and with your Stop&Shop card, you can save so much! Overall, not one of the better Stop&Shop stores as it is missing many amenities the others (such as the more suburban Stop&Shops, like my local) have, and because of checkout. 3 stars. read more

Worst run grocery store I've ever been to. Long lines, never has enough registers open. The self-serve registers are fine except for the fact that the attendant who's there to oversee them won't lift a finger to help bag and move the customers through. Deli counter doesn't fill pick up orders despite the fact that the option is available and the computers receive your order. Terrible customer service all around. read more

Although this location is small, it is often my go-to for any quick pick ups I may need. I went in today for a few things, and when I was checking out, the cashier and bagger that we're handling my items did not have masks nor gloves on. I wouldn't normally care, but with COVID-19 being present and wearing masks is now a requirement I am rating this location a 1. Clearly management is not caring enough to ensure their workers are safe, or even their customers for that matter. Or, these girls simply get to do what they want and don't get spoken to about it. Well, that's it. I'm breaking up with Stop and Shop. This place is a dump and despite its size, nearly as bad as Worst S&S ever, the "Ghetto" S&S over in Jackson Square, JP, which Whole Foods will hopefully soon put out of its misery. This place is horrible!! They appear not to have overnight stocking, since on Sat mornings the place is full of people stocking shelves and blocking shelves very very slowly. Deli, produce, and bakery are HORRID and limited in supply. Bakery has stale items regularly and it smells. There's no fish or meat counter & meat is mostly sold in big packages, with a limited selection, unless you want pigs' feet. The layout is terrible. Lots of wasted space. No shampoo better than V05 in the 'pharmacy' (a joke, since there isn't one; you can go to the Ghetto Walgreens in the plaza though, a matching cousin of this place). But the staff are the worst of all. They replaced half the checkouts with machines which don't take bottle receipts, coupons, etc. And they hire teenagers who can't even pack bags & just chat and f-up your bill: they forget coupons, meat coupons, bottle receipts, bags. They act as though you are interrupting them--and you are! I've met cashiers here, by the way, who rang up corn as plantains. They aren't well educated about the food, what little there is of it. Managers are hard to find, customer service terrible, slow and understaffed, and the PRICES are not changed properly, so if you dont' watch your bill, you'll lose money here. So Good bye S&S . I went to do my usual grocery shopping this evening got done collecting my items starting working my way to the registers, once I get close enough I notice there is only 1 register open for all items, 2 registers open for 12 items or less and 3 registers open for self service. My main issue is once I notice the line for the regular register ended close to where the self service lines were and several black shirts standing around not doing anything about it. Me along with several other customers had to ring and bag our own groceries which I have no issue with if that was the amount of items I had to be at that register. But to ring be made to stop because the line is full of your groceries and now you have to go and bag with 3 at that time black shirts standing in the area seeing clearly assistance was needed. I felt worst for the elderly woman with her handicap child in a wheelchair doing her best to handle everything. At the end of the day there are several people in this world looking for work and can't find it while we have people like the ones I encountered today with positions they are clearly abusing. This place truly needs a reface of their front workers I can't say the whole store but definitely the front workers. read more

I used to live around the corner from the Super Stop and Shop in South Bay. Almost as close to me are the Super Stop and Shop on Morrissey Blvd. and Grove Hall. But, whenever I have access to a car, I go to this one. Why? It's quiet. I've only seen it busy on Super Bowl Sunday. The South Bay location is a nightmare. You can never get through the crowds, some of the shopper panhandle while you are waiting in line. It's well-stocked and clean. The South Bay location is understocked, dirty and the staff are generally unhelpful. The dented can and reduced items racks, tucked away behind the fresh produce section, are colossal and always stocked with plenty of low-cost goodies. I always head here first and usually can knock off some of the significant items on my list. The gas station has prices that are comparable to others around where I live, and is cheaper with your Stop and Shop card points. Finally, it's convenient that we can swing by the Save a Lot around the corner on the way there or on the way home, to pick up a handful of bargain-priced items, and do all of our grocery shopping in an hour with no hassle and no stress. If you can get to this Roslindale location, it's worth the trip. It's a hidden gem. read more

Gotta boost my neighborhood grocery store. Stop and Shop did a fantastic job completely redeveloping the whole Roslindale plaza, not only the storefronts but the parking lot as well. Please ignore any reviews from before the 2010 redevelopment. Groceries are now par for the course of most good supermarkets. read more

I called the customer service line to ask a general question regarding cashing money orders at their location. The gentleman who I was directed to, answered as if he was answering his personal phone. He answered with a unenthusiastic "Hello." Due to his tone, I wasn't sure if I even dialed the right number. Then continued to speak to me as if my call meant nothing. When I call well established organizations, I expect a certain level of professionalism. One cannot work in customer service and have no customer service skills or qualities. Just some advice. I'll still be purchasing my groceries from this location, they always have great deals. read more

NEVER SHOP HERE!!!! they have zero experience in this store! I had the worst experience in check out. I am happy that s&s still has self check out, but there was no one there to trouble shoot issues. This happened to me in two self check out lines i entered. Finally an attendant came by and said she would have someone come and assist. But she did not get anyone, she went to the closest cashier and began bagging! I then moved to a cashier line where the cashier did not know how to process someone looking to buy a credit card. Finally he left in disbelief and the cashiers wanted to talk about how to do that kind of transaction and to clear his sale off of the register. Meanwhlie, the line grew from two people to six. They did not get it together until i finally asked them to keep it moving. Of course instead of realizing the importance of customer service she snarled and rang me up with attitude and very slowly. This was all noticed by the floor manager 'Bob' who did absolutely nothing to help along the situation. By the way, i forgot to mention, 3 cashier lanes (1 with a closed sign) and 4 self check lines (2 of which needed attendant assistance) at 5:15pm on a Friday evening. Whose bright idea was this? Soooo, poorly managed and equally terrible is the lack of knowledge the employees have about their jobs and customer service. Shame on you stop and shop for allowing this to happen!! read more

It seems strange to review a large grocery store, but here it goes: I tell everyone near it to shop there! I don't hate having to go to the grocery store anymore! I love this grocery store. It's laid out well, MUCH better stocked than any of the big grocery stores I've shopped at closer to down town Boston and they have a SUPERB produce section. They have great sales in produce, take great care in keeping the area organized and just have really great tasting fresh produce. I don't buy fruit here to bring it home and find it is spoiled in a day. The employees in both the produce and deli section have always been friendly and overly helpful. Really, really nice folks work over there. Yes, the cashiers often appear that they would rather be anywhere else, but hey...I wouldn't want their jobs either. Sometimes they are very friendly too, but it's less likely. We're not out in suburbia where the cashier remembers your kids and that's okay. The parking is awesome and you can visit some of the other shops in the complex while you're over there. They have a problem with having enough shopping carts sometimes, but you can find one out in the parking lot if it really comes down to it. I'd deal with this than having to fight traffic and pray for a parking spot in the central Boston/Cambridge stores ANY DAY. Hands down, this place is a great a and conveniently located grocery store. They have good sales, varied products, great quality and well stocked goods and lovely people working in the deli and produce areas! If you live in JP, Roslindale or Hyde Park it's a no brainer! read more

I will never go here again. It's not the worst, and it isn't even half bad, but there are so many better markets. The customers seem to randomly leave their carts blocking aisles, or will suddenly walk away from them when they are in front of you. If you ask someone something, they look past you, they don't even acknowledge you. AND of course at check out time I end up in the slowest worst lane behind Diana Ross who had the bagger rebag her 40 boxes of pasta and 10 bags of hamburger buns over and over again because it wasn't up to her standards.... who are these people??? read more

Better since they remodeled... Prior to them redoing this store I would not buy anything out of here as far as meat or deli items go and it seemed most of the frozen foods were iced over. Things have changed significantly for the better but they could use more variety/selection; for instance I buy Kraft mayo which I did not find in this store. read more
