This is a Super Stop & Shop and is larger than the typical Stop & Shop. This resembles a suburban grocer more than a grocery store one finds elsewhere in NYC. The aisles are wider and no one is on top of each other or bumping into one another as one finds typically in the rest of NYC. This is no basement grocer, but the front of the store is not all glass windows facing the parking lot, so it does not benefit from natural light as one might expect. Some things are not in the abundance one would expect from such a large grocer. Beer was quite limited for this size of a grocery store. However, almost everything else was in great abundance. Many items come in larger sizes than is ordinarily found in NYC. The produce looked good and it appeared all the meats were in abundance, as were the dairy and bakery products. Though they have plenty of freezer cases, I missed the fresh seafood and did not notice if they have prepared meals ready to eat. In this sense, this Super Stop & Shop may not be a modern type grocer and perhaps reflects the local market does not demand prepared meals ready to eat. This is my first visit and I may have missed some things, but the style of this grocer seems very traditional. Sale prices looked quite good and the ticket reflected the proper sales price. I asked a question for information and was properly directed. This seems like a well run grocer from my first visit. I walked around most of the store and it seems to offer what most people would want or need. I cannot vouch for whether the grocer offers specialty items or those items catering to more international tastes and cuisine. This is a very good grocery store that seems to have kept inflationary prices in check and suits most peoples' needs from my observation and experience. Perhaps the store could use a refresh. Thankfully, this grocery store has NOT limited the number of cashiers to force you to self-checkout. That is a tradition to retain. 3.7 stars! read more

This is a convenient location to come shop in Co-op city. I did go recently and at least 4 times during the quarantine. There are sign to social distance and for the most part people did follow that. I remember getting the organic nuggets such as the one in my photo a few months back, Never have I ever expected to pay that much for chicken nuggets. Based on the price, they should have tasted like they had gold flakes to them as well. This place is generally crowded on an average week day let's say to go shopping , but you can make it work at any time especially after work. This used to be the worst a couple of years ago. Now? Just wow! Amenities: bathroom is clean. Accessibility: large parking lot shared with National Liquidators, a West Indian Restaurant, one of the best dry cleaners I've ever used (the tailors work is fantastic), a Pharmacy, Chase, beauty supply store and some other stores. Be careful when leaving because of the dividers in the road that prevents you from going in a particular direction. Supplies: this used to be the most nonsensical Stop and Shop. My current neighborhood S&S is one of the best location in which I have shopped. I have one near me in Yonkers and I love their cleanliness and organization. I used to live in Co-op City and I am very familiar with this S&S also. The Bronx branch is ok. It sucks, big time, that they have no fresh seafood department because other S&S locations have very nice fresh seafood depts. The most you can find here, are pre-packaged, frozen seafood and canned seafood. The produce here could also stand to be fresher, also. With the amount of consumer traffic that comes through, you would think they would have a faster produce turn-around. The deli is great and the people who work there know how to slice meat to your specifications and that makes quick, first aisle, maneuvering. read more

The majority of the customer service representatives at the window are very rude. Many of the sale items aren't on the shelves or worse aren't programmed with the correct price in the system. The extra go points aren't always credited with the purchases made even though it does state any size or variety. Many times the coupons clipped doesn't even come off on the purchases made. I find I have to either speak with the store manager or call customer service to get anything done. These customer service employees need to be properly trained and learn to be respectful to the people who shop at their stores. Without customers, they wouldn't have a job to go to. read more

I reside in Co-op City, so this store is convenient. I prefer the Stop and Shop in My. Vernon, which has a larger selection. Most of the Stop and Shop's outside of the Bronx do carry more stock. I use mostly the pharmacy. I do take a drive outside of the Co-open store for fresher food during the holidays. I have purchased food that was spoiled in the store on Co-open City Blvd. They should never have spoiled or expired food on their shelves. The younger employees need to be trained on conducting themselves professionally at all times. read more

Observed a couple a man and a woman alongside a baby carriage while shopping sitting on the ledge of the fish display items inside where the store places fish to sell. Aghast I simply stared at them, the workers in the store ignored them, no reprimand I will not shop there again. Ghetto mentality nastiness of course Black or Hispanic which they happened to be, in this instance. It has nothing to do with race or nationality they just happened to be of the minority people. Much nicer than you would think.... they recently redid it, and the store is clean, with lots of new aisles and a very good bakery section. The bagels that they have are better than Bagels on Bartow a few miles away, and the rest of the store is standard issue Stop & Shop, already very strong. I think that its nicer than the perpetually overcrowded Pathmark in Bay Plaza, and less crowded than the two Stop & Shops in New Rochelle. This makes it a winner in my book. read more

Large, suburuban style, fully loaded supermarket with ample parking in the Bronx. This is one of the many reasons why the Bronx is completely underrated. Why go to an overpriced Key Food, C-Town, Foodtown, etc., supermarket with tight aisles, overpriced food staples, and very limited food selection? Although Stop & Shop isn't in my immediate neighborhood, a 5 minute drive up 95 to Co-Op City, and I'm there. If you go regularly, make sure you sign up for the rewards program, as the deals you will get with the Stop & Shop card are rewarding. I like the fact that, unlike most other supermarkets, every brand, flavor, size, and option is stocked. Food shopping is much easier when you have the selection and competitive pricing. I only hope Stop & Shop expands into more 5 boro areas. Why should people in the 5 boros be the only ones in the tri-state area with limited food shopping selections? I find Pathmark run down and outdated compared to Stop & Shop. Stop & Shop generic or "house" brand is better quality than Pathmark, and they carry a better, more upscale selection, but still have competitive prices. read more

When it comes to organization, this place sucks. They should have a separate line or counter for purchasing metro cards. Be prepared to wait at least ten minutes on line just to purchase one. Definitely has made me late for the bus countless times. They only have one person working behind the customer service counter and they take their slow time. I'm a fan. Much better than the Pathmark in Bay Plaza, the aisles are wider and I'm not constantly having to get past the walking dead as much. Prices are reasonable for a supermarket and there is self-checkout, a place to buy Metrocards and lotto tickets, and if you do use a line with a cashier, they are usually quick in both ringing you up and bagging for you. Unfortunately, Pathmark is closer to where I live so I dont get to Stop and Shop as often. My only complaint is they used to have a section where you could sit down and eat lunch when it first opened which is now gone. read more

Does this place really deserve 4 stars? Prob not, I would say a solid 3/3.5 stars, BUT I will say they get the 4 for comparison reasons! Having lived in Queens, moving to the Bronx was a huge adjustment in general, but especially food shopping. Having lived right by a GREAT Stop& Shop, then coming to the Bronx, man oh man was I so let down! It is such a shame that when you go to the more urban areas that the amount produce is not of good quality or not as extensive. Besides that, even finding certain items to get at supermarkets is hard. Anyway, I decided to take 2 buses to this Stop & Shop (yes, I have a keyfood around the corner from me) but it's not the same! Not only are certain foods so expensive, you can't find squat there! Someone tell me why ground turkey is almost $7 at keyfood etc, and only $3.99(I think it was $4.49 when I went on the last trip) at S&S. I don't want to get off track with the lack of healthier options in urban areas because it truly is a damn shame and why I miss Queens. *sigh*. So I went on my first trip there and have to say the place was pumpin. I actually had to return something with reciept. In Queens, if you do this, they will give you your money back if it's $10 or less; here they issue a giftcard. Either way is fine by me but wanted to state the differences in the communities. Back to my shopping, I actually didn't notice there wasn't a seafood dept. but that sucks for ppl that do want to buy it there. The produce was pretty good for the most part, however when I went to look for an herb it wasn't stocked. No biggie! The selection was pretty much on par with what I usually get. Didn't get a chance to see if they had spaghetti squash though so I will see next time (try finding THAT in any supermarket in the bronx,smh)! I didn't get a chance to really interact with the workers there which is why I said the initial statement, but hey I got most of the stuff I needed which is the reason why we all go here. If you forget your card, just ask the person on register to scan the store card or if you are doing self check out click "forgot card" or something along those lines. This branch might not be as awesome as the one I'm used to in Queens, but after going to countless "mediocre at best" supermarkets I can give this one 4 stars in comparison. read more

This is where I go for my big grocery purchases. Nothing in the Bronx comes close to the selection and value. Another nice thing is that it is huge- with big wide aisles, even when it's busy, it doesn't seem that bad. They have a large produce section which is hit or miss on freshness- it depends on the day you hit it. They have a good meat department and good bakery. They also have a decent natural/organic food selection (which is hard to find in the Bronx). Their deli is not as big or as nice as some smaller Stop&Shops in Westchester. One thing all S&S can improve on is their self-check out, it always malfunctions and you have to wait for someone to come over and reset it- they need to change this ASAP. Overall, though, the shopping experience combined with the great values Stop & Shop provides makes this the best supermarket in the Bronx. read more

Pre-packaged seafood is horrible. The lines are very slow even when the store is NOT crowded. No one is ever in the meat department to slice large pre-packaged meats. However, the isles are roomy and clean. The dairy dept never smells bad. For the most part, Stop & Shop, Co-op City is a comfortable place to shop. The produce dept items are usually fresh and crisp. Just move the lines a little faster and bring back fresh seafood on ice. read more

Clearly these good reviews are by Stop and Shop employees. Two weeks ago I went to this store and used the express no cashier checkout. I got no receipt from the machine. A junior employee assigned to these machines displayed a ghetto girl attitude saying I could no longer get a receipt. Her boss Carolyn Gamble said she would mail me the receipt which she has not. Today I tried to purchase about ten items and went on the regular line to make sure I got a receipt. A male customer in front of me was making unwanted advances so I changed lines and then had to wait 25 minutes to buy my things because of a WIC female customer. Stressful experience. I will go to the store in New Rochelle from now on. Don't shop here if you can avoid it. read more

I have been to Stop & Shops in places like New Rochelle and the Rockaways - gorgeous! They are clean, have a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables and have a slew of friendly staff. Even the managers interact with patrons. I am very disappointed with this CO-OP City branch - borderline offended! The shelves are dirty, the lighting is harsh and the food is average. Why do certain neighborhoods get the star treatment while others get the leftovers? I challenge anyone to visit different Stop & Shops to see the stark difference. The nicest supermarket in the Northeast Bronx, Stop & Shop at Co-op City far surpasses their competition in the area (Pathmark at Bay Plaza) in many aspects including store cleanliness, selection, and product availability. Staffed with both an in-house bakery and pharmacy, the store's prices are a bit higher than Pathmark, but the availability of an organic foods section, sushi and a large, cleaner produce section sets this store apart from other big box supermarkets in the Bronx. Bring in your reusable bags to save 5 cents off for every bag you use (Pathmark only cheaply discounts 2 cents for every bag used). read more

This particular branch is selling milk that expires one week before it's expiration date,and last week I purchased what I thought was a 31-40 count bag of x-large frozen shrimp, only to find later that the entire bag (once thawed) had only 17 shrimps in them. Both items purchased were Stop and Shop brands. This store was sited last year for price gouging consumers. If you do shop there stay away from the stop and shop brands (or any other non major brand). The bottom line is that their business practice is deceptive, and profit comes first before quality. I am not a fan Of the Stop & Shop Supermarket in Co-op City. The prices are somewhat high if the items are not on sale. The produce is horrible. The meat and seafood are expensive and not that great. The hot prepared food looks dried up and not much to choose from. Some of the employees have nasty attitudes and are unprofessional..instead of helping customers,they are talking about their relationships or parties they have attended. If you need to ask some of them a question , it's like you asked they to loan you money. Some of employees at the cold cut counter do their job well , and some are slow and angry most of the time. I find that the older employees are more professional than the younger ones. The management at this store really should have more training on customer service for their employees. I and others that I know have been to other Stop & Shop Supermarkets and they are 100 times better. I go to this store in emergencies. I order my groceries from Shoprite in New Rochelle and have them delivered, or key Food in Pelham Bay, both are so much better than dealing with the poor customer service at this Stop & Shop. I think it stays open because it's convenient for the people in Co-op . I don't understand, if you are the type of person who does not like working or helping people,why work on a job where excellent customer service is your job and a priority. Everything I need is right here and there generic version of stuff is 3x better then any other stores generics. The store is actually cleaned every day and does not have bad odors like Pathmark tends to do. The time I'm waiting on line is about 60% less then that of pathmarks during the mid day. All merchandise is usually fresh and in date so there hasn't been much of the lil side store issues I've seen like {C-town aka compare foods} (bought a pizza that was dated for last year, like seriously???) Anyway Stop and Shop is worth it for the service as well even the most drugged up looking employee has gone head and knee to help me find something so im well impressed. And before I forget they have the biggest bread selection I have ever seen and there white bread is always 99c and on rare sales 2/1. Theres a lovely gentlemen there that will help you with any thing store wide in that area too name was E something I cannot recall. Overall its worth checking this place out to do some shopping but remember no where is ever perfect. read more
