We rented one of the Lakehouses (#19 to be specific) and it was phenomenal. It was right on the lake, gorgeous views with a huge porch with couch, chairs, chaises, table with 8 chairs and a gas grill. There were 5 of us and we rented the 3 bedroom. The main floor bedroom was great for the one person in our group with mobility issues and had a walk in Roman shower and separate tub and lots of space. The upstairs bedrooms were spacious with sitting areas in each and spacious bathrooms with walk in showers, one was a Roman shower the other had a sliding door. The open floor plan on the first floor was great for our group with a very adequate kitchen (which we didn't use except to serve birthday cake and drinks as this was a birthday celebration). The big dining room table was great to play board games on rainy evenings and the gas fireplace was perfect for ambiance or the chilly days. There was a washer/dryer which came in handy when our clothes got wet from kayaking (which was a blast! Great that each house has its own kayaks- ours had 4 as well as paddles and life jackets). Our house was also very close to the community firepit which we also enjoyed the one evening it wasn't raining. We opted not to cook and instead had our breakfasts and dinners at the Stillwaters restaurant at the lodge. The food was great and the service was phenomenal. The wait staff was friendly and extremely accommodating (huge shout out to Dale whom we especially loved). The menu had great choices and it was wonderful to see so many meatless options. They had a dinner buffet every night that ranged from $24 to $29 but the a la carte menu had a lot of variety and they let you order from either the Stillwaters or their bar, TJMuskies, menus since the kitchen was the same for both. Everything was clean and it was an enjoyable experience with only a short drive from the Lakehouse. We did a bit of hiking, they have many trails and you can get a trail map at the front desk. We also booked a cooking class from My Kitchen (no correlation to the resort, completely separate) which was a bit of a drive (1 hour away in Morgantown) but so much fun. We also booked spa services at Tuscan Sun Salon and Spa in Clarksburg (35 minutes) as the in house spa could only do one service at a time and there were 3 of us who wanted to be helped simultaneously (2 massages and 1 facial) plus the woman whom I spoke with at Mtn. Laurel Spa was extremely rude and acted like she didn't want to help me. As far as service goes, (not including restaurant staff who were great) it was hit or miss (hence my 4 stars instead of 5). A couple people I spoke with on the phone when booking were great and some were not. The girl at the front desk upon checking in was young and didn't seem like dealing with people was her forte. When booking over the phone I was not told that we wouldn't be able to check in until 2. I know official check in was 4 but I had asked when booking if we'd be able to get there at noon to decorate the house for the surprise birthday party and she said she couldn't guarantee it but that she'd make a note on our reservation, she neglected to tell me that there was no checking in until minimum 2:00 and we got there at 1:00 and had to wait an hour after driving for 5 hours to get there. Needless to say I wasn't too happy about this. So to the resort staff I would say you need to do a better job with training your employees to better communicate your policies and to only hire people who truly want to deal with the public in a friendly manner. Also your cleaning staff could be better about cleaning the houses. There was a pair of leftover underwear and a sock in the dryer (ew) and so many dead bugs on the ledge of the French doors that the tape we were trying to use to affix the birthday banner wouldn't stick. (But if you weren't looking too closely the house seemed clean) Definitely a great weekend with exceptional views, good food and some great activities at your disposal. I highly recommend it. It would be great for a family reunion, girls weekend, guys weekend, couples retreat etc

The service, friendliest bunch of people always. The quality is top notch and the resort is beautiful. The valet is always accommodating and nice. The boating experience was amazing a beautiful. The food is top notch.

3.5 stars overall. Stonewall Resort offers accommodations in a lodge, cottages, and campground as well as dining in three restaurants. The resort offers many activities, including boating and fishing on a lake, golfing on a golf course, hiking in the woods, swimming in an indoor/outdoor heated pool, etcetera. (For more information about the activities, please see my attached photos and my separate review about the state park.) In July 2022, my husband and I reserved a room through Expedia's Hotels website for a 3-night stay in September. We paid $866 for a room that had two queen beds and a view of the lake. Check-in at the front desk went smoothly. Our room had comfortable beds and chairs, a desk, dresser, and mini fridge. I did notice a large tear in the wall. The bathroom could have been cleaner, because the floor trim had lots of dust, the bathtub tiles had black spots on the grout, and the floor tile near the bathtub had gunk. We did have a view of the lake from our window. We had access to password-protected Wi-Fi in our room, which we used a lot because the area had limited cell phone service. Throughout our stay, all of the employees were courteous. During checkout, however, we experienced a problem that took almost 30 minutes and 2 employees to solve. The first employee incorrectly charged us several hundred extra dollars for two extra nights! My husband and I explained to the second employee that we had already paid through Expedia/Hotels, so she refunded us the extra several hundred dollars. Overall, I will round up my review to 4 stars, because most of our stay was enjoyable, and my husband told me that his credit card statement looks correct.

I took my son here as a gift for his 12th birthday. I brought my parents along for a nice mini-vacation. Beautiful place and very scenic. The food was absolutely delicious. I loved sitting by the fire after my son went to bed and sipping on an adult beverage. My son really enjoyed the gift shop, too. My parents had a relaxing time in the pool. They can't wait to go back! It was like a nice mini-vacation.

This review is for the Arnold Palmer golf course. I played here this week while visiting my in-laws in Weston. I had a great time and enjoyed the layout, however the golf course conditions were a little bit rough. It's my understanding that it's been very dry. There were spots on both the fairways and greens that had burnt out grass. Many of the tee boxes looked like they were undergoing some sort of renovation. All of the staff that I saw were incredibly nice and I was charged the in-state golf rate, which was significantly less than what I should've been charged due to the current conditions of the course. They also gave me a complimentary sleeve of golf balls for the round. I would still love to come back here and play again when the course is in prime condition. I would love for people to support this golf course, so the pictures have been cropped in a way that doesn't include the tee current tee box conditions or areas that were overly burnt out.

Great place to just relax and get away from the day-to-day hustle. It was about a 4 hour drive from the DMV with lots of mountain driving into the foothills of West Virginia. From Mountain Biking to Paddle Boarding to Making Smores by the campfire were all a need to do while visiting. The rooms are a little dated, but enough for the city to country vibe.

Had to clean the cottage ourselves. This is just what came off the living room floor.

Rented a cottage for the weekend. Was absolutely filthy. The sheets were soiled and the floors were covered in dog hair and dirt. The smell was horrid! Complete and utter disappointment. We had to leave a night early due to the allergen or dog. The resort was completely unapologetic when brought to their attention and was only concerned in getting the money. If you are looking for a weekend getaway, look elsewhere.

My family and I got to go to Stonewall this summer for a quick trip. We drove through the wonderful resort parked got out walked over the bridge saw the water played around the fields just had a really good time it was nice to see on a much-needed walk break from being in the car for so long

Very nice fire place to relax.

It was spring break and we decided to make the four and half hour trip to come to this resort. Our expectation was not much but once we arrived we were pleasantly surprised. The resort looks beautiful and the cottages are very nice. They have indoor outdoor pools, 3 restaurants on site and a nice fire pit to enjoy some marshmallows. Customer service is great and they also offer many activities such as canoeing, fishing, power boats, clay shooting, hiking, biking and much more. We were happy to be by the lake and wake up every morning to the view of water. The unfortunate thing because the temperature dropped to 60s we could not do many of the after activities that we planned. We would come back again and hopefully the weather would be better to do more activities which we had intended to do this time.

Tube Park Review…read more This review is specific to the Tube Park. Highly recommend getting tickets ahead of time online. All sessions for the day were sold out when we visited. The lodge area for the tube park is very small, so don't expect to be able to change clothing quickly inside due to how busy it is. There's a fire place inside and a huge fire pit outside. Very small concession inside with about 8-10 small snack items to choose from. The staff here are top notch - very kind to each other and talkative to visitors. 10 minutes before the session starts, the group gets a safety briefing and reviews the rules. There's a nurse/medic on site. This is fun for the whole family. 1200 feet long and very fast. Be sure to read the requirements online for kids. Extra safety precautions are taken onsite for young kids.

I was disappointed with my stay at Canaan Valley Resort. As someone with disabilities, I found the…read moreproperty to be less accessible than expected, making it difficult to fully enjoy the experience. One of the most frustrating moments was at dinner. Our tour group was told we could not sit by the windows and enjoy the view because we were "with a tour and not paying customers." Considering many of us paid nearly $2,000 for this trip, that was insulting. We were also not allowed to order from the regular menu and pay ourselves if we wanted something else. Unfortunately, the meal provided left me sick for going on 2 days. The resort itself also had several maintenance and convenience issues. The ice machine on our floor was broken, the snack machine and soda machine was nearly empty, and the shower had VERY poor water pressure. The gift shop closed before 7 p.m., making it impossible to purchase basic necessities when needed. There was also very little to do in the evenings. The pool closes at 8 p.m., and by 7 p.m. most activities and amenities seemed to be shut down, leaving guests with few options other than returning to their rooms to watch TV. Overall, the resort did not meet my expectations, particularly regarding accessibility, guest experience, and customer service.

The Inn offers all the amenities of a rental home (fully stocked kitchen with two fridges and two dishwashers, dishes, etc), large dining room table, plenty of seating and a couple of quiet rooms to relax. The bedrooms were large, there were at least 9 of them and each had their own full bath. Comfortable temperatures from their HVAC throughout the entire house. Overall, the Inn was a comfortable way to relax after a day of fishing. There was also a grill outside and a fire pit. The location is just about 10 mins from downtown Covington, not far from other fishing areas, like Lake Moomaw and the dam there. There's plenty of parking and they have an amazing restaurant onsite, a quick walk from the Inn that's highly recommended! I look forward to returning!!

To our delight, the food was excellent. We talked some with managers and they have added many things to the menu. I am honestly looking forward to going back and trying something different next time. The beer selection is not much craft beer, but has some good staples- shock top, vienna lager, etc. There is plenty of parking and indoor and outdoor seating. My drives were freaking huge...Regulation was hit in most cases and I even drove two Par 4s...What killed me were the greens...Not only were the fairways elevated so were the greens!!!! It is narrow so if you are a sprayer like my cousin, you will get frustrated. Alas, lack of familiarity of the course did me in and I shot an 89. Keep in mind the slope is a tough 126...Average is 113 in America. Castlewood Country Club in Pleasanton, CA is 131 and is a very hard course and I shot 2 strokes better there; it was the home course of LPGA Pro and Asst. It was a little geek-out golf moment to think we would be teeing off at this historically important hole. We had the opportunity to play 18 holes on the championship Old Course at The Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Virginia. The golf staff was super friendly and gave us some pointers before sending us off on the high-tech golf cart with GPS and an interactive map of the course. The weather was perfect, although a little gnatty, for our 9 a.m. tee time. The surrounding Allegheny Mountains hug the 6,099 yard course that snakes back and forth through the hills. The 18 holes consist of six par 3s, six par 4s and six par 5. They are not very long holes (relative to other, newer courses we have played) but the geography forces golfers to shoot uphill, downhill, or around sloping hillsides. Mature wooded grounds and beautifully manicured fairways led to challenging greens. We reveled for a moment at the Old Hole #1, knowing how many famous folk, from presidents to great golfers, teed up here. I must not have channelled my inner Sam Snead enough (this was his home course), because I whiffed my first ball into the woods. Oh well, there's no crying in golf. Throughout the round, we were able to play slowly enough to enjoy the beautiful scenery and random wildlife that made an appearance- and to focus on our game. Overall, it was a fun course to play and I appreciated the relatively shorter length of the holes. FACTOID: Sam Snead taught himself to play golf during the Great Depression with golf clubs carved from tree limbs. He caddied at the Old Course from the age of seven 7 and turned pro at 22. We did not get to play The Cascades, but we did stop in to look at the course, which was designed by William Flynn in 1924. It is considered one of the finest mountain courses in the country and ranked among "America's 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses" by Golf Digest. The magnificent topography against the the backdrop of Allegheny Mountains allowed Flynn to design the course masterfully using the natural terrain, The Cascades is regarded as one of Flynn's greatest works. The Omni Homestead Resort is a great place of pilgrimage for any history buff, architecture lover, or golfer. We look forward to another visit to play the Cascades and check out the extensive restoration projects to the main building and other parts of the property, including the mineral water-fed Jefferson Pool.
