Im between a 2 and a 3 for Stonewall. We stayed 2 nights this past week and I was honestly shocked how few people were at the resort. Isn't this peak season? That was an immediate red flag for me. I found the rooms to be extremely outdated and our tub was cracked. The very first day we used the pool and my husband flicked someone else's band aid out of it. We continued to go to the pool the next 2 days and the band aid remained on the pool deck. Does anyone clean?! So gross. There were several things to do at the resort but everything comes at a price. We were disappointed that the boat rides are only on the weekend so we couldn't do that. We also tried to get spa appointments and they didn't have any availability until after we were gone. I was confused what the resort fee was actually for on the bill. This was just a regular hotel if you ask me. The one super awesome part of Stonewall is the lake. Beautiful view of the water at all times. Super peaceful! That was a major plus but we most likely will not be returning. read more

Beautiful Lake, Friendly Staff, but Lodge Needs Serious Upgrades We recently stayed at Stonewall Resort to celebrate our anniversary. There are definitely some great features here, but unfortunately, our overall experience was mixed. The highlights: The lake is absolutely beautiful, with impressively clean water. We loved being able to rent kayaks and paddleboards--such a peaceful and fun way to enjoy the scenery. We also had dinner at Lightburns, which was delicious. Our shuttle driver was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the area, which added a really nice personal touch. If you're looking to leave the resort for a meal, Thyme Bistro in the town of Weston is a fantastic dinner spot. The food and atmosphere were both excellent and worth the short drive. The concerns: The rooms at the lodge are outdated and need attention. Our bed was very uncomfortable, and we noticed what appeared to be mold in the bathroom. Despite staying the whole weekend, our room was never cleaned, and we didn't receive fresh towels after the first day. On the first morning, we got room service, but the second morning they called back 30 minutes after we ordered to say there would be no service due to understaffing. When we were checking out, there were only four luggage carts for the entire lodge, so there was a line. Thankfully, the older gentleman assisting guests with carts was kind and apologetic. We were also surprised to see a $65 charge on our bill for an anniversary package we never received. It was supposed to include a charcuterie board and wine, but nothing was delivered. My husband had called several times prior to our stay to inquire about better room availability and the package, but no one ever returned his calls. Lunch both days at TJ Muskie's was good and fairly priced, though the bartenders (particularly on Saturday afternoon, July 27th) were noticeably unfriendly, which was disappointing. Bottom line: For the prices they're charging at the lodge, the rooms should be more comfortable, up-to-date, and clean. We've previously stayed in the lake houses with a group of friends, and those are absolutely stunning--very different from the lodge experience. Stonewall has so much potential, especially with its beautiful location, but major improvements are needed at the lodge to justify the cost. read more

The resort itself is a beautiful building with a nice lake and trails but the rooms and amenities are sub par Also on their website there are a few false items that when we got here we asked about them we were told that not everything on the website is true Like events for kids sounded like a great experience especially for how they made it sound during Christmas but in reality it's such a disorganized disappointment and the pool looks great in pics but reality tells a different story the room is like a motel 6 something I haven't stayed in 20 years for that reason I wanted something better and got this Hamilton Inn at least serves free breakfast ( decent food ) and you get coffee and tea all day But here you not only pay the resort price but you pay for everything else Such a disappointment that's all I can say In my opinion don't come here read more

I've been here probably 30 times in my life and each time I always wonder why I come afterwards. Service is 1-2 stars at best! The rooms are literally about the same quality as a Motel 8 but not as nice or updated. Everything is outdated yet they charge you like you are staying at Nemacolin or The Greenbrier. Pfft! I have also stayed in the cabins, big and small and they are extremely over priced for what you get. This is a partly owned state resort yet their prices are not that of where most of the citizens of West Virginia could even afford a beer here let alone a room. Disgusting! I come time and time again because the lake is beautiful and I pay for a season pass because it's worth the price instead of paying for parking every time I want to go mountain biking, hiking, or have dinner and drinks with friends. Would I recommend this place, yes! But with a warning to make sure you aren't upset over their over the top prices for even a domestic beer and a simple sandwich. I cannot say enough about how wonderful the staff and management is here. We've been coming here for over a decade for my husband's medical conference and they treat us like VIPs every time. The night manager graciously opened the Oak Boardroom so we could watch a late night WVU game with my husband's colleagues. (We brought our own TV) We are beyond grateful for this special request. This resort is amazing! The bar so good, I didn't have any drinks but my new favorite aunt got drunk so the drinks must of been good. The pool is so refreshing and relaxing the lights get off a nice vibe, which I love. The food is impeccable! It has such a good selection even a picky eater can find something they like. We recently spent MLK weekend at one of the lakeside houses. Despite the snow, there was a good crowd on Saturday and Sunday. The house was clean and spacious. We ended up staying Sunday night due to the bad weather. The girls enjoyed the small heated pool and hot tub. While I did not get in the pool, I appreciated that the pool area was warm. The breakfast bar as Stillwater is so-so. I found it slightly overpriced. A special shoutout to Bill who helped clear our car of snow and ice. read more

We rented one of the Lakehouses (#19 to be specific) and it was phenomenal. It was right on the lake, gorgeous views with a huge porch with couch, chairs, chaises, table with 8 chairs and a gas grill. There were 5 of us and we rented the 3 bedroom. The main floor bedroom was great for the one person in our group with mobility issues and had a walk in Roman shower and separate tub and lots of space. The upstairs bedrooms were spacious with sitting areas in each and spacious bathrooms with walk in showers, one was a Roman shower the other had a sliding door. The open floor plan on the first floor was great for our group with a very adequate kitchen (which we didn't use except to serve birthday cake and drinks as this was a birthday celebration). The big dining room table was great to play board games on rainy evenings and the gas fireplace was perfect for ambiance or the chilly days. There was a washer/dryer which came in handy when our clothes got wet from kayaking (which was a blast! Great that each house has its own kayaks- ours had 4 as well as paddles and life jackets). Our house was also very close to the community firepit which we also enjoyed the one evening it wasn't raining. We opted not to cook and instead had our breakfasts and dinners at the Stillwaters restaurant at the lodge. The food was great and the service was phenomenal. The wait staff was friendly and extremely accommodating (huge shout out to Dale whom we especially loved). The menu had great choices and it was wonderful to see so many meatless options. They had a dinner buffet every night that ranged from $24 to $29 but the a la carte menu had a lot of variety and they let you order from either the Stillwaters or their bar, TJMuskies, menus since the kitchen was the same for both. Everything was clean and it was an enjoyable experience with only a short drive from the Lakehouse. We did a bit of hiking, they have many trails and you can get a trail map at the front desk. We also booked a cooking class from My Kitchen (no correlation to the resort, completely separate) which was a bit of a drive (1 hour away in Morgantown) but so much fun. We also booked spa services at Tuscan Sun Salon and Spa in Clarksburg (35 minutes) as the in house spa could only do one service at a time and there were 3 of us who wanted to be helped simultaneously (2 massages and 1 facial) plus the woman whom I spoke with at Mtn. Laurel Spa was extremely rude and acted like she didn't want to help me. As far as service goes, (not including restaurant staff who were great) it was hit or miss (hence my 4 stars instead of 5). A couple people I spoke with on the phone when booking were great and some were not. The girl at the front desk upon checking in was young and didn't seem like dealing with people was her forte. When booking over the phone I was not told that we wouldn't be able to check in until 2. I know official check in was 4 but I had asked when booking if we'd be able to get there at noon to decorate the house for the surprise birthday party and she said she couldn't guarantee it but that she'd make a note on our reservation, she neglected to tell me that there was no checking in until minimum 2:00 and we got there at 1:00 and had to wait an hour after driving for 5 hours to get there. Needless to say I wasn't too happy about this. So to the resort staff I would say you need to do a better job with training your employees to better communicate your policies and to only hire people who truly want to deal with the public in a friendly manner. Also your cleaning staff could be better about cleaning the houses. There was a pair of leftover underwear and a sock in the dryer (ew) and so many dead bugs on the ledge of the French doors that the tape we were trying to use to affix the birthday banner wouldn't stick. (But if you weren't looking too closely the house seemed clean) Definitely a great weekend with exceptional views, good food and some great activities at your disposal. I highly recommend it. 3.5 stars overall. Stonewall Resort offers accommodations in a lodge, cottages, and campground as well as dining in three restaurants. The resort offers many activities, including boating and fishing on a lake, golfing on a golf course, hiking in the woods, swimming in an indoor/outdoor heated pool, etcetera. (For more information about the activities, please see my attached photos and my separate review about the state park.) In July 2022, my husband and I reserved a room through Expedia's Hotels website for a 3-night stay in September. We paid $866 for a room that had two queen beds and a view of the lake. Check-in at the front desk went smoothly. Our room had comfortable beds and chairs, a desk, dresser, and mini fridge. I did notice a large tear in the wall. The bathroom could have been cleaner, because the floor trim had lots of dust, the bathtub tiles had black spots on the grout, and the floor tile near the bathtub had gunk. We did have a view of the lake from our window. We had access to password-protected Wi-Fi in our room, which we used a lot because the area had limited cell phone service. Throughout our stay, all of the employees were courteous. During checkout, however, we experienced a problem that took almost 30 minutes and 2 employees to solve. The first employee incorrectly charged us several hundred extra dollars for two extra nights! My husband and I explained to the second employee that we had already paid through Expedia/Hotels, so she refunded us the extra several hundred dollars. Overall, I will round up my review to 4 stars, because most of our stay was enjoyable, and my husband told me that his credit card statement looks correct. read more

I took my son here as a gift for his 12th birthday. I brought my parents along for a nice mini-vacation. Beautiful place and very scenic. The food was absolutely delicious. I loved sitting by the fire after my son went to bed and sipping on an adult beverage. My son really enjoyed the gift shop, too. My parents had a relaxing time in the pool. This review is for the Arnold Palmer golf course. I played here this week while visiting my in-laws in Weston. I had a great time and enjoyed the layout, however the golf course conditions were a little bit rough. It's my understanding that it's been very dry. There were spots on both the fairways and greens that had burnt out grass. Many of the tee boxes looked like they were undergoing some sort of renovation. All of the staff that I saw were incredibly nice and I was charged the in-state golf rate, which was significantly less than what I should've been charged due to the current conditions of the course. They also gave me a complimentary sleeve of golf balls for the round. I would still love to come back here and play again when the course is in prime condition. I would love for people to support this golf course, so the pictures have been cropped in a way that doesn't include the tee current tee box conditions or areas that were overly burnt out. read more

Great place to just relax and get away from the day-to-day hustle. It was about a 4 hour drive from the DMV with lots of mountain driving into the foothills of West Virginia. Rented a cottage for the weekend. Was absolutely filthy. The sheets were soiled and the floors were covered in dog hair and dirt. The smell was horrid! Complete and utter disappointment. We had to leave a night early due to the allergen or dog. The resort was completely unapologetic when brought to their attention and was only concerned in getting the money. It was spring break and we decided to make the four and half hour trip to come to this resort. Our expectation was not much but once we arrived we were pleasantly surprised. The resort looks beautiful and the cottages are very nice. They have indoor outdoor pools, 3 restaurants on site and a nice fire pit to enjoy some marshmallows. Customer service is great and they also offer many activities such as canoeing, fishing, power boats, clay shooting, hiking, biking and much more. We were happy to be by the lake and wake up every morning to the view of water. The unfortunate thing because the temperature dropped to 60s we could not do many of the after activities that we planned. We would come back again and hopefully the weather would be better to do more activities which we had intended to do this time. read more

We booked a quick overnight trip here and attended one of their special event dinners. The resort grounds are really beautiful. Check in was quick and friendly. Our room was adequate. For how nice the common areas and resort grounds were, we were hoping to be a bit more wowed by the room accommodations. The bathroom was the most in need of a refresh. Some areas weren't as clean as we would have hoped. The bed was fine, but you could feel that the mattress was older and could also be replaced. We weren't in the room much, but this is the area that took my 5-star review down to a 3. The common areas are really lovely. We wished that we had longer to explore. There was a pool that extends from the indoor area to outside and we were shocked to see it being used in March. It was chilly, so it must have been well heated. The fire pit was also nice. It got a bit crowded, so we didn't stay too long, but it was nice to stand next to it once the sun went down. Our dinner reservations were for a Moonshine tasting and Appalachian dinner. The food was good, and the moonshine and cider tastings were unlimited, so you could really try everything being offered if you wanted. The event was held in a large banquet room. Due to Covid, we were seated with just one other couple at a very large table, about six feet away. Masks were worn by all when getting food or drinks, everyone respected the protocols in place, so we felt the entire dinner was as safe as possible. We finished the evening with a couple drinks at TJ Muskies which filled up to capacity but was distanced appropriately. The drinks here were okay. A specialty drink that I initially ordered was really expensive and was flat, so we stuck to simple mixed drinks or beer after that. Overall we had a pleasant time. Not sure if we'll go back again unless some room renovations are made to justify the price, but for a night away from home, we had a nice visit. read more

My first time here December 2023. Came here for a wedding and booked an extra night for fun. SPA - yes!!! We booked a couples massage, 80 minutes deep tissue. We both have had MANY massages over the years - my husband more than I. These massages were Very good, and mine was The Best or tied with the best I have ever had. Very skilled, kept checking in with me for pressure, and really loosened up my tight areas. She even helped my lower back!!! She was also very personable. Usually massages at resorts are hit-or-miss. If I lived here I'd get massages here on a regular basis. Ask for Barb! Christmas decorations are everywhere and are lovely. I love the unique tables made from trees and left in their natural state. Saw the comedy act Friday night. Enjoyable, but not the best I have ever seen. The warm-up act was 1 hour and the main act was 30 minutes. Convenient to see an act right at the lodge. Bar and Grill, good food and drinks and a nice ambiance. Saw live music Saturday night and they were Awesome. Stillwater for buffet breakfast was very good. The coffee was delicious as well - which doesn't always happen. I am a coffee snob. We enjoyed the gym and the indoor / outdoor pool and hot tub. ROOM SERVICE- there was NO ROOM SERVICE. When checking in the staff said "there is no room service while you are here, because you know....COVID". Hey Stonewall, we all know that isn't true. I would have more respect if you and your staff told the truth by saying "there is NO ROOM SERVICE because we don't want to pay staff to perform the service so we can keep more money for ourselves." See attached phot of request form. We asked for more towels (3 towels for 2 adults over 2 days was not enough). We had to ask twice! I am disgusted with this entire industry playing these juvenile games to not provide service but still charge the same price. We got no response per our first request. I was trolling the housekeeping closets to try to get a couple of towels. STAIRCASE from Lobby to downstairs restaurants - the carpet is a visual maze making it very difficult to see where the stairs are at. STONEWALL can you do anything to make the stairs easier to see. I witnessed multiple people of various age groups struggling to see the stairs. I give a 1-star rating for the room service. The 4 stars reflect all of our other experiences. read more

They we're having issues with the heat. The main entrance was cold. I saw on the news that we haven't had a Christmas this cold in 130 years. So my wife and I picked the wrong weekend to go. The place was awesome the staff was very friendly. They worked very hard to make up for the problems they were having . My wife and I still had a great time. We plan to go back back again. Just not when it cold as hell. We want to experience the place under better circumstances. I have a lot of respect for the staff for pushing through the problems. The rooms were not cleaned and I was charged twice, plus the convenience charge. The resort charged two times adding up to over $650 on my account. I called and was told the charge would be dropped within 72 hrs. I was kind enough to wait 72 hrs and the charge is still posted on my account. When I spoke to a manager, she didn't even apologize for the inconvenience. Customer service is terrible. You can't get a clear response from anyone, including mangers. 5 days and I am still trying to get a refund on the additional charge! read more

This place is a mixed bag. We stayed with a large family group, some of whom rented lake houses on the property and some of whom stayed in the lodge. The lake houses were fantastic.  They're well-appointed, very modern, and absolutely delightful.  If you're coming to Stonewall Resort and can at all afford to, rent a lake house! My family stayed in the lodge.  It was laughably awful.  Sure, the main lobby is beautiful, but the rest? Ha!  Highlights include: *We rented a presidential suite, which we were told slept six.  The suite had one king bed + a pullout in the bedroom.  The connecting room, a dining and living area, had one pullout bed.  Who puts the king and the pullout in the same room?  Assuming the parents actually like one another, and assuming they're the ones footing the bill, isn't it reasonable to expect that they'd like a private room and their kids to be in a different space?  I thought so.   *The pillows are cheaper and less comfortable than one would expect in a roadside motel.   *The pullout beds are so uncomfortable that we had to call housekeeping in the middle of the night and ask for as many blankets as they could find so we could create extra mattresses over the coils. *The soap and shampoo dispensers in the bathrooms were empty.  We had to call housekeeping to bring up the kinds of basic toiletries we'd expect to find in a Motel 6. *The carpets were frayed.  The main room of our suite had one of those floor electric outlets one finds in public spaces.  It wasn't flush, creating a hazard. *There were no dishes, cutlery, glasses, or cookware in the kitchenette. *The walls were paper thin.  I could hear every yip and whine from the dog in the next room. *There was no coffee in our room.  After we called for some, we found that the coffee maker was cheap and poorly constructed. *Three of the lamps in our suite did not work. *The hotel gym was ridiculously tiny. *The pool is so overchlorinated that it made my wife break out in hives and my son buy Visine. *Upon checkout, the clerk asked me about my stay.  I began, "Well, it had its pluses and minuses ..."  She cut me off with a "Well, covid ..."  She wasn't interested in my experience at all. I'm left scratching my head.  Stonewall Resort sits on beautiful grounds.  It features a lovely lobby area.  Its cabins are to die for.  But it seems like the management decided to cheap out when it came to the main lodge.  I thought we were booking a weekend at a first-class resort.  That's the experience my relatives in the cabins had.  As a guest of the lodge, however, all I can say is that my family was delighted to get a good night's rest at the Spring Hill Suites by the freeway where we stopped over on the long drive home. read more

I had to wait an additional 30 minutes after checkout for them to resolve it. It put a damper on what otherwise was a nice stay. I've done "wine and food pairing dinners" but had never heard of a "beer and food pairing dinner!" This was a sensational event at the beautiful Stonewall Resort in north-central West Virginia. Stonewall is gorgeous, with a spectacular indoor-outdoor pool! Yes, you can swim from the inside to the outdoors, and on the night we were there it was snowing! So cool! Anyway the five-course meal between the Stonewall chefs and the Parkersburg brewmasters was a huge success! Just TASTY!!! read more

My boyfriend and I recently enjoyed a weekend getaway at Stonewall Resort. We loved feeling so close to nature and were very relaxed getting out of the city for the weekend. Stillwater's restaurant did not disappoint. We bought the bed and breakfast package and enjoyed the breakfast buffet each day. TJ Muskie's was just alright, which is the reason for the 4 star review. It took about 15 minutes for a server to notice us and when the food came it was on the colder side. Well...The management Especially The lady named Melinda im assuming is the Assistant manager, was rude, sassy, and just unprofessional. As well as the servers did not act like they wanted to be there, they were rude, making rude faces at us, rude remarks. we didnt have enough towels and we asked multiple times three in total for them, and they did not come bring them at all. We were told the gym was closed by an employee, as well as the pool, and the pool truthfully was closed but the gym was open and that limited our things to do, as well as no one would help us find the hiking trails. I am submitting a review on the Stonewall Resort & Spa.  This is a lovely place for LOCALS especially with the campers and trailers looking over the lake.  We went for our anniversary just recently for a scheduled two days with a package including the Spa.  When we arrived, the front desk informed us that we had a different package, no Spa and that we had a breakfast with a stay at the hotel for $579.00.  The manager at the front desk, whom totally unprofessional (with leg up on chair like "Captain Morgan" explained to us that they received this package and there was no compliance.  We explained that we booked our stay online.  She informed us that it's a contract company and that they receive the information from them.  She told us that she we would adjust the price to a lower price.  Therefore, we went to our room, in which the hallways were full of dust and never cleaned.  The hallway seemed that it was never painted and that it had the tendency to look like a coating on dust on the floor. Our room (367) was not made, in which the bed spread had "waves" in the mattress.  The bed spread with the writing, Stonewall Resort smelled as if a horse slept in it.  The bathroom sink was clogged with hairs, shower wall was cracked along with drain.  Our view from our room was a lake overlooked a camper/trailer park, grass uncut, with guys drinking beer playing tossing beam bag. The Resort does not discriminate dogs as they walk near the restaurants along with the scene of drunks drinking, smoking in areas that supposed to be non-smoking, The restaurant was the only positive affect of the place.  Even one of the matrices informed us about the bad conditions in the hotel. Don't even try to get them to park your car.  The workers will pocket your change if you provide them with a $20.00 bill.  The past reviews in YELP are very accurate.  After dinner, I question the front desk on the bill and Captain Morgan informed me with that our stay will be $579.  She told us earlier that she adjusted the price to $329.00.  What a liar.  We decided to leave this place in the morning.  The female manager the previous day, aka Captain Morgan put a hold on our CC account for $579.00.  To travel in the mountains of West Virginia is hard but this should be a better place.    There are things that should be consider in selecting this place; Advertisement is wrong and fraud online.  Staff should represent the hotel in professional manner, not looking out of shape and elicit mannerism and lying Resort should be changed to hotel.  This is not a romantic place.  With campers, locals drinking outside of restaurant, kids running around place. Low diversity and background. The online website is fraud and should be reported to the Better Business Bureau.  If you are out of State and want to spend a romantic evening, go to a Marriott, they are better cleaned, polite, and show professionalism other than out of shape personnel that lie and uncleanful. read more
