When I arrived home and took my rifle out they had removed the bolt and forgot to put it back in, drove all the way back to the store where they acted like it was funny, and laughed about it. Strike three: had them order a cam for my Mathews bow, they gave me an eta of two weeks. Called after three weeks and was told they had received the cam but lost it, it would be another two weeks. We finally paid a visit to Snowshoe's Sporting Clays range after frequenting the sprawling resort…read morefor almost twenty years. It was both a fun and pleasant experience and we decided to do it again in the future, perhaps next year. Snowshoe Sporting Clays is located almost halfway between Silver Creek and the Snowshoe Lake, down a back road that alternates between gravel and pavement. The best way to get there is by the free Snowshoe Shuttle that is on call to drive customers there. Before going there, however, one has to have paid tickets that can be obtained at the Depot or by calling the Snowshoe reservation line. There are several variants to suit customers of every level of dexterity and time allowed, from static 25 targets at $29.00 to a mobile course of 50 targets costing $54.00. The range masters are totally professionally trained and take their time explaining both the shot gun course and best of all, safety. Myself coming from both a military and a Homeland Security background, it is a pleasure watching the range masters at work. The course is fairly small, as well kept as it could be, although the management neglect of the previous Snowshoe CEO (now hopefully exiled to some ski Gulag) is visible and extends throughout the entire resort, including the Sporting Clays. Overgrown bushes and poorly maintained buildings greet the visitor. Hopefully the new management will spend a modicum of resources to keep this as a wonderful experience to the visitor. The Sporting Clays is open from early May to early October, providing for a fairly long shooting season. After about twenty minutes of safety and instructions, we were ushered to the static stand for a five-shot practice before the launchers were activated. We did both the static launchers, which come from different angles and positions, as well as part of the woods course. To say it was fun is a gross understatement. It was a blast. I brought some coworkers here for an intro to sporting clay shooting. A few of us had some past…read moretrap/skeet experience, but overall none of us were experienced shotgun shooters. We talked to the owner, Chuck, and setup for an evening after work to spend a few hours with him showing us the ropes. The facility is off the beaten path, but not terribly so (all the roads were paved). It was about a 15 minute drive from Marietta. The facility is nice; basically a log-like-cabin building at the top of a hill. In addition to the sporting clays course, there is a lighted trap range, outdoor and indoor gathering/eating areas, and a grill or two (they do a Thurs night shoot and steak night, I hear). I believe he said the sporting clays course is over 22 acres, and the entire property is 230 acres. Pretty big. Chuck got us familiar with the basic rules of sporting clays, made sure we had the right stuff (we brought our own guns, not sure if he rents them) like eye and ear protection, and took us out to the first stand. He coached us thru the basics of shooting a moving target, how the course works, how to shoot at multiple clays (birds) in a single stand, etc... He was very patient with us, as some of us sucked at shooting. He's a really nice guy with a lot of experience. We did 9 or 10 of the stands (like holes in a golf course... you walk around the entire hilltop.. ), I believe there are 16 overall.. and they can be changed to be harder or easier. We shot until it got too dark to see anything. Overall it was a great evening of shooting. We're planning on heading back soon. It would be a great place to do a corporate event or family outing, pending you like your coworkers/family enough not to shoot them. Call ahead and make an appointment as they don't have regular hours (maybe Thursday they do).

Is the course nice? Yes its pretty good and the target presentation are as well. There was a decent…read morevariety, but no rabbits. Everything was well maintained. The restaurant was disappointing. At a high end place you would expect better offerings. We had the French fries and boneless wings. At a place like this it's odd that is even an option, but we were hungry. They were ok. We shot a tournament here and that is the only way we would ever shoot here. The tournament was $100. This is actually high for a 100 clay tournament and at this range and lower it would include lunch. This did not include lunch. Normally they charge the ridiculous and extortionate price of $325 per 100 clays. This is easily 3-4 times as much as I have ever seen for a round of 100 clays. We usually shoot at an Orvis range at $80 for 100 clays. That is actually already on the high end and is a much nicer course with a trapper included. It seems Nemacolin takes advantage of rich people. They come down and pay way too much for a stay then get to pay way too much for everything else as well. No hate, a sucker is born every minute and a Nemacolin every second. I admire the hustle. So basically, if you have any sense don't pay 3-5 times as much for a round of clays as market value. There are better place near by. Then, don't get the shitty food. There is better food near by. This would be 1 star but they had one of Johnny Cash's pistols on display. I have to give 1 more star for anything from the man in black. Service was also good.
